    Death of the genre? Not even close. It's like saying The Dark Knight was the death of the fun summer romp super hero movie. The Avengers and Spider-Man are staring at you from the side line like, "what is this guy talking about?" The last Smile Precure Movie debuted at #1 on the Japanese Box Office and this was post Madoka. The previous one debuted at #2.

    How could the deconstruction of a genre be the death of it?  Deconstructions depend on the continuing popularity of the genre for it to garner interest in the first place.

    I think that Madoka deconstructs, Penguin Drum subverts, and neither kills the genre.

    Did eva kill the robot genre? Of course not it improved it. But really...you should not be recording this until you see the last episode....

    The better question would be did Madoka SAVE the magical girl genre?

    I blame Tom for the inflammatory episode title :)

    Also, I have started watching the show since this airing, I'll probably say something about it when I'm done! So far so good!

    Save? Maybe or least kept it from going the way of Is this a Zombie? or Is this a Zombie? of the Dead an im not sure if thats a good or bad thng as i like both series.

    @Marshal Victory: eh adding intelligence to a genre is always saving it. I haven't watched the shows you mention and have no intention to do so..

    @zaldar: They are season 1 an 2 of a series that parodies zombies,Twilight ( no really ) ninjas, magic girls ,High school anime to i belive.If i had a point an thats subject to debate :) its that themes come an go but they come back at some point.For nostalgia an other words i dont want to look up the spelling .

    If anything one could argue Puella Magi Madoka Magica is to magic girl anime what Batman: The Dark Knight #1: The Dark Knight Returns was to super heros in comics.If any thing it broadens the audience base.But as far as adding intelligence to a series thats always in the minds eye of the beholder.err so to speek.I like Is this a Zombie? cause its silly.An laughs these days seem harder to come by.

    I doubt that Madoka Magica brought about the end of the Magical Girl genre. If anything, said genre ended up being strengthened, especially after the ending onward.

    Man, I can't even remember the time when zombies were "out" anymore.

    @sickVisionz: @Turambar: @Bigheart711:

    Well, yeah... I think our discussion in the video shows that we all think that this show really just shoots some new blood into the genre. I just figured "MADOKA MAGICA Destroys Anime?" as a title for a video - - an idea to be refuted in the actual discussion - - was much more intriguing than "We Talk About MADOKA MAGICA for 10 Minutes" Haha.

    I need to check out PENGUIN DRUM sometime then...

    @No_name_here: Um if were gona rely on my memory zombies were "out" as a popular theme early 90s threw early 2000 after that they slowly took off again with the gee the 80s were good craze.This series tho kinda in way combines it with magical girls.Zombies will probly be a surgical staple in popular culture for ever .Smply because to many asign a cultural or plotical meaning to zombies.Then again one movie could kill that to..

    In a way if it did would it not be just another reason to hate Brad Pitt?But i digress overall point is themes in popular cutlure ebb an wane .Everything old is new again.
