Plot Overview

The story follows Madoka Kaname, a young girl who greatly desires to be more useful to the world. When she and her friend, Sayaka Miki, get caught up in a fight between the mysterious new transfer student, Homura Akemi and a cute creature named Kyuubey and magical girl Mami Tomoe it looks like Madoka's desire to become useful may be within reach. However, things are not as they seem and becoming a Magical girl soon shows to be a far less clear cut choice than any one thought.

Drama CDs

In addition to the anime and manga spin offs, various drama CDs have been released, packaged with DVD volumes of the series.

Drama CD 1 - "Memories of you": Packaged with volume 1, this drama CD develops on episode 10 of the animated series.

The CD greatly expands upon Homura and Madoka's relationship in the original timeline, as well as revealing Madoka's wish
was to save a black cat, Amy from being run over. Interestingly, Amy is the same cat who appears in the anime opening, yet is never referenced in the series.

Drama CD 2 - "Sunny Day Life": Packaged with DVD volume 3. Drama CD 2 takes a much more lighthearted, comedic and wacky view of the Madoka universe.

Taking place in an undetermined, but likely an early one. All of the magical girls are still alive and friendly with one another. None of the girls are aware of Kyubey's intentions, and Homura has not developed a cold personality as of yet.

Drama CD 3 - "Farewell Story": Packaged with DVD volume 5.

Drama CD 3 delves deeper into Kyoko's past, her wish and why she became a magical girl. It also features interaction between Mami and Kyoko, illustrating their first meeting and subsequent friendship, mentoring and the inevitable destruction of this.
