Holy shit! Masaoka has been Ginoza’s father this whole time?!

I’ll… honestly never go back to see if there have been subtle clues leading up to this, but even if PSYCHO-PASS “cheated” to get us to this particular surprise, it’s still somewhat reassuring to know that an intellectual show isn’t above using one of the more reliable gimmicks in the soap opera magic hat.

What I find most intriguing about this newly-unveiled relationship is that it means there’s probably a calculated scale to familial estrangement in this world. Like, Masoaka isn’t a 100% deadbeat Dad; he’s maybe more a 57% or 62% deadbeat. Considering how we’re already in a present where your credit ranking or the points on your license essentially determine where you fit into society, it isn’t actually that great a leap of futurisim to picture a world where the rest of your life is similarly graded, is it?

In other words, PSYCHO-PASS might be about a future where “Dad Points” are actually a thing.

And then there's other big surprise in this episode, the one that finally introduces us to the MINORITY REPORT-esque “systemic flaw” of the Sibyll system - - that is, the “criminally asymptomatic.” With all this “one-in-two-million” talk, the show might be actually be going for a genetic explanation (as if these creeps are basically mutants who just aren’t wired the way everybody else is), so I’ll go on and award myself +5000 honorary XP if my previously-offered thesis about inner peace proves to be true.

Especially considering how the final dialog reveals that Masaoka more-or-less turned into an Enforcer because he was dissatisfied-unto-bitter about his job, I think the show’s really angling to make a point about the real nature of "clean thoughts." I mean, they all but say that the reason Akane’s Psycho-Pass isn’t getting clouded from her trauma is that she simply doesn’t think that much, right? If you aren't having that many thoughts to begin with, then less of them are going to be dark ones...

Watch this episode, "Invitation from the Abyss” here and decide for yourself, then read my comments on the previous episode here.

I don't think it's that she doesn't think she is obviously smart and meant for the job. I think its the ability to accept what has happened and let it go not constantly going over it in your head until it breads mistrust, dissatisfaction, and bitterness. It seems to me those with muddied psycho - passes where unable to let go of whatever it was that made them unhappy. Akane seems to be one of those people who accepts things as they are she might question the system but she accepts it as she showed when using the Dominator rather than the shot gun she went with, now this could be simple fear of using a deadly weapon not governed and outcome decided by a computer for the first time but there are other instances where she accepts things as well as people with no difficulty despite the fact she was raised in the same ways as everyone else around her. I could of course be wrong but I by no means see Akane as a non thinking person. naive sure she has a lot to learn and she is young.

I think that's what Tom meant by not thinking, as in not thinking excessively, feeling your emotional pain, rather than becoming the emotional pain it'self, in Zen we call that inner peace, or "the end of suffering" : )

ehh Tom Pinchuk missed the part where Masaoka explained it was probly because she was raised in this system so shes used to it.Or ya are ya mistaken the dumb look on her face ( sigh its way they did the eyes) for less actual thought.?Rember she tested so high she could do any job career path she wanted.Shes really freaky smart.

Now on ta this inner zen of kiling thing. That may be .Especialy when they dont feel guilt for the crime. Like they see it for a larger cause "cough cough".I can see that route sure.People are driven daily to viloence threw extreme belifs .An as long as their are people walking the earth this will happen.

Think of it this way ,those that basicly killed themselves trying to cleanse their pshyco pass are the extreme end. On the other could be those who are never worried about it an belive their pass will never go up. Just like Akane Tsunemori belived hers would go back down after the memory scoup pic thing an it did.So ya might be on to someting... maybe.

Why am I getting the feeling that Akane is actually one of the 1 in 2,000,000? Remember that Sibyl said that she could do pretty much anything she wanted to and she chose to become an inspector.

@Daroki: I thought that as well about her being one but when they do the memory scope her pass rises and almost goes over when they stop though her pass quickly recovers which leaves me to think that perhaps not.

True, but I'd like to see if it goes up if she's the one committing the act. I think the Psycho Pass goes down because of the convinction of the person committing the act that it's just. It didn't work with Masaoka because he's not one of the asymptomatic.

Hell, I'm just happy that it's even something that can be discussed at this point and we're not in an episodic loop still.

@Daroki: Yeah could be. I am assuming its all stimuli that doesn't register in someone who is asymptomatic but this is just what I have taken from it and if that's untrue and only when committing a crime does a asymptomatic person and a normal person differ in regards to their Psycho Pass then the possibility for Akane being asymptomatic rises in my opinion for sure.

@Aleasha: @Daroki:

I will agree theirs a posibility she could be that rare 2% as well. Shōgo Makishima is also highly intellegent but being able to fool the psycho pass isnt about smarts.Seems to be all about how you feel.Mostly stress not evil intent.

@Kino88: It could be just the choice of words but I also see where on the show she regularly has those looks that I can see someone connecting not much thought in there so if it was meant as you say I can definitely see a Zen type of thinking and feeling going on in Akane's head.

Yes that's what I meant by, not thinking much.
