Off-Topic » [Not-Really-A-Battle] All Comers vs This Puppy!

@John_Martone: My airedales used to do happy dances like that, though usually it took more than a cup of kibble to get them going. Though I do remember many a mad scramble as they came running to get the food.

She's not puppy-cute anymore in this pic. But I'll post it anyhow. :)

Off-Topic » [Not-Really-A-Battle] All Comers vs This Puppy!

After perusing the silly arguments in the Battles forum I was going to post this there.. but decided since it didn't specifically call out to anything anime or manga related, I'd post it in OT.

Take your pick of whomever you choose.. no matter the universe no matter their ungodly power level above nine-thousand.. can they handle THIS??

I didn't think so.

ps Feel free to use this as an invitation for posting lethally cute pictures.

Dragon Ball » DBZ Hate

With Dragon Ball running for so long and the need to always have the next foe be more powerful than the previous one.. the scale of things got more than a little ridiculous in my opinion. I won't argue that most if not all long-running shows get into this cycle, but DBZ does it bigger than most.
Another problem with being so long, is that I found the tropes of the shonen action series to really start grating after a while, in a way I might not have in a shorter story.  Maybe I just don't like the genre enough.

Oh! Plus, all the hipster anime fans out there hate anything mainstream.

Also had originally added as its own thread.

While I wouldn't argue seeing the two separate, since Persona is its own strong entity (though probably not as much in the media Anime Vice covers), The Shin Megami Tensei franchise already includes the Persona 3 Trinity Soul anime series, while the Persona franchise only has the Persona 4 manga. Either Trinity Soul should be with Persona (the default image for the Persona franchise page is from Persona 3), or Persona 4 should be with the rest of Shin Megami Tensei.
Shin Megami Tensei
Persona

Also!

I know I looked for these two characters before entering new profiles for them.. but apparently I didn't look very hard or temporarily couldn't spell.
Rin Asano #1 is mine and has details filled in. Rin Asano #2 is the original, but is bereft of all details other than the name, and not linked to anything.
Same situation for Anotsu Kagehisa #1 and Anotsu Kagehisa #2.

I apologize for making more work for someone.

Delete/Combine Pages » Duplicate (and triplicate!) pages

Accidentally had made my own thread for this post because I am a dolt.

It looks like when a user was adding Volume 29 to the wiki they accidentally added it as a separate series instead of it being integrated into the regular bunch. Both it and the proper one were added on May 26, 2009. So right now when you look at the manga associated with the Bleach franchise there are two manga series instead of just one.

http://www.animevice.com/the-slashing-opera/16-2959/ is the entry that is linked up properly

Delete/Combine Pages » Please combine or purge the Blade of the Immortal manga entries

I had considered doing that from the get-go but didn't want to make redundant entries. All 22 volumes are up now. Still need to fill in the meat of the pages.. and add the cast since only Manji has an entry in the wiki.. but the bones are set.

Quests » The AV Club

As much as I'm looking forward to going to Anime North this year (my first time since their first ever Anime North).. I'd like to bring this back on topic for a moment :)

Does anyone have some better hints regarding the secret quest in AV Club? I interpret the clue (and the GB forums seem to generally agree) that it's related to posting first on something. But I know I've put up the first reply to news stories, video posts, forum threads and no quest complete has popped up. Slogging through the GB forums gets a bit confusing since it seems like the quest has been altered since it originally was created for GB. They also temporarily had a "get the 300th post" quest that was quickly nixed.

I was on vacation when PAX East happened so I missed my chance to meet a few members of Giant Bomb. Let us know if you send someone to see us Canucks. Sooner or later I will meet someone from Whiskey Media.

Delete/Combine Pages » Please combine or purge the Blade of the Immortal manga entries

The manga section for Blade of the Immortal currently contains 58 entries, and seems to be based on Dark Horse's original release format of single-chapter comics. However Dark Horse has not released Blade of the Immortal in that format since 2007* (edit - fixed!). There are currently 22 volumes of this series released in North America, with the latest having been published in January of 2010. I have all the volumes sitting on my shelf and it was on my list of series to go through and expand on in the future, but I'll happily pop it to the top of the queue. However I don't want to cause a mess by adding volumes 1-22 to the issues 1-58 already present. I'm still very new to the site and don't want my time here to be cut short by doing something stupid.

Just Manga » Which would prefer?Good art or good story

I've found manga that has less than stellar artwork harder to get into perhaps since a strong visual appeal is a great hook. But if there isn't a good story, even the prettiest series can have difficulty holding my attention over the long run.

If he told you, he'd have to kill you.

With DVDs you have to deal with the Region encoding.. at least with Blu-Rays Japan and North America are in the same zone.. not that their stuff has English subtitles generally.. I was really tempted to pick up the blu-ray version of Summer Wars. It looked so damned pretty. I'm hoping it's a big enough hit to get Funi or another company's attention.

Japan » Things TO Do In Japan

Re:  Addfwyn's Avoid #1 - I think walking through Kabukicho in the middle of daylight with plenty of normal folks around was the one time I didn't feel entirely safe when I was in Japan.

  • Thank whatever gods you believe in that Japanese women like short skirts, and take in the lovely scenery.
  • The Yamanote Line. Love it.
  • Go in the spring time and take a bajillion photos of the cherry blossoms. Everyone else is doing it.
  • Watch in awe as the usually reserved Japanese let loose with gigantic alcohol-fueled picnics well into the night under the cherry blossoms. Tokyo's Ueno park and Kyoto's Maruyama park are both filled to the brim during sakura season.
  • Try to see some matsuri (festivals). The really big ones are in the guidebooks but there are heaps of other smaller ones. Those ones require knowing what to look for or just dumb luck. I stumbled across a Yosakoi festival celebrating the sakura  in Kyoto one weekend and spent most of the rest of the afternoon watching. Another weekend I found myself in Narita for a taiko drum festival. Both were awesome.
  • Ride the Shinkansen (bullet train). It's like a freakin' airplane.. but on the ground.
  • Learn to love Japanese beer. It's everywhere.
  • Experience the electric neon of Shibuya at night. Is it even possible to go to Tokyo and NOT see Shibuya Crossing? (at least if it's your first time)
  • Go to Roppongi Hills. Go to the 52nd floor of the Mori Tower and experience the Tokyo City View. Preferably at night. Bring a camera.
  • Marvel how everyone tells you that Kyoto is really flat but you spend all your time climbing stairs. Most of the interesting temples and gardens are at the edge of the mountains that make up three of the borders of the city.
  • Stroll through Japanese walking gardens.
  • Jingū-bashi. Sunday afternoon. Be there.
  • Spend a few hours walking (mostly uphill) through thousands of vermillion torii in Fushimi Inari Taisha in Kyoto.
  • Visit Akihabara and wonder just how the Japanese otaku are able to afford paying for anime DVDs.
