General Discussion » WM is sold, Giantbomb and ComicVine splitting off.

@Addfwyn: @nivi: This is all assumptions and bear no actual plausibility, but yes, AV's fate is probably the most interesting out of the other 5.

Things can either turn real good, or turn real bad.  That fact that the content publishing platform was also purchased means that I don't think there will be any major site structural changes.  But AV is the weakest of all the WM sites, so it will either get shut down due to a lack of traffic overall, or maybe it'll see an increase in funding, leading to an actual staff once again.

General Discussion » WM is sold, Giantbomb and ComicVine splitting off.

In a deal that was just signed, longtime Silicon Valley exec Shelby Bonnie has sold his social publishing start-up, Whiskey Media, to Santa Monica-based entertainment and interactive production company BermanBraun.

As part of the deal, BermanBraun will get three key sites of San Francisco-based Whiskey, including video entertainment-focused Screened, tech-testing site Tested and Anime Vice, which covers anime and manga comics. It will also acquire Whiskey’s content publishing platform.

Two other sites owned by Whiskey — games-oriented Giant Bomb and comic book database Comic Vine — will be sold to another media company, which is rumored to be CBS Interactive.

Heaped on top of the niche content, aimed at passionate fans, Whiskey mixes in a lot of social networking, as well as user-generated content, along with its professional fare.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

But the major reason for the acquisition is that BermanBraun — which also makes popular sites for large portals such as Microsoft’s MSN (the Wonderwall celebrity site and Glo, aimed at the women’s lifestyle arena) and AOL (upcoming sites on weather, men and pets) — needs to be able to scale its online content production. The Whiskey platform should be able to allow it to more easily grown and create new sites more quickly, as well as mine data across them.

“With the addition of Whiskey’s first rate team and powerful, state of the art publishing, data and social tools platform, we will be able to further enhance our user experience and engagement, and provide our advertising partners with unparalleled data insights,” said Lloyd Braun and Gail Berman, who run BermanBraun, in a statement. “One of the other great parts of this acquisition is that we will have Shelby Bonnie in our lives. We have enormous respect for Shelby personally and professionally, and his insights, relationships and acumen will be invaluable to us.”

Bonnie, who was once CEO of CNET, which he helped found, added: “I have had the pleasure of knowing both Lloyd and Gail for years and they are two incredibly high integrity people who bring passion and creativity to the interactive space. As we see a dramatic changes in the whole media landscape, success will demand new skills and talents. BermanBraun’s content skills and vision joined with the Whiskey platform will create a combination that I believe is without equal. I couldn’t be more excited for the combination.”

Bug Reporting » We got Giant Bomb's Medals for some reason...

@Daniel_Newton: Well, it's been a week and all the other sites seem to have been fixed.  (Haven't checked on tested yet, but I assume they've fixed it there as well.)  All except AV.  Did WM just lose the image file for AV's medal some how?  I can't think of any other reason why something so simple would take so long to fix.

Bleach » Is Bleach coming up on it's final chapter?

No.  About a year ago or so, the mangaka was recorded saying the story in his head was only half done.

Kakashi Hatake » About the Chidori...

@Turambar:

The idea behind the original limitation made little to no sense as it were.

It make sense, if you are going at high speeds you can't really see everything around you.

One does not need to move their bodies at high speeds, merely their arms.

But if you want to impale and shock them (without them seeing you coming), instead of just shocking them

Also, anime.

He first said it in the manga

The point of infusing chakra over a weapon or your body is to improve the cutting potential of said object, not just to infuse it with some elemental effect.  The manga made that point very clearly.

Also I say "anime" rhetorically, not a statement of its source.  Manga, anime, comics, what have you have never been known for good internal logic and consistency.  The true answer to the OP's question is that the mangaka just completely forgot about the limitation he contrived up in the first place and doesn't really care that he's breaking the rules if we really want to get down to it and be honest.

Off-Topic » Diebuster or TTGL. Which mech anime is better/do you prefer?

They are both good, but Diebuster is far shorter time commitment.  Watch that first.

Gundam 00 is pretty good (it kind of like Gundam Wing)

But stay away from Gundam Seed Destiny if you know what good for you

LOL, I can understand why you don't like it but I do. Since you're playing gundam 3 ( I do too) you should give seed another shot. I'm infatuated with Athrun for reasons I can't explain.

Why I say that is because playing the character in the game helped me build a liking for the corresponding show the character is on.

00 is pretty cool, doesn't pickup for me until the late into 1st season. season 2 gets better. The game is actually making me want to watch more gundam too so I know the feeling.

and if you like 00, the dlc is majority 00 characters.

It warrants noting that an HD version of Gundam Seed is currently being reaired in Japan.  So if you want more of Athrun, I'm sure there are means to watch subtitled versions of it.

Are you only looking for contemporary titles, or OVAs with amazing animation relevant to their time.

Just Anime » Generally Unpopular/Controversial Anime Series (Guilty Pleasures)

I wouldn't quite equate controversial with "guilty pleasure."  The latter implies an active acknowledgment that what you are enjoying is bad while controversial is simply something with a wide berth of opinions.

Anyways, semantics aside, my one and only guilty pleasure (obviously because I have good taste) would be the Gravion franchise.  I'm just a sucker for any mecha designed by Obari, even if its a show produced by Gonzo, had one of the biggest Mary Sues (but still fucking fabulous and amazing) around as a supporting character, and had a second season that pretty much incorporated nudity to boost sales.

General Discussion » Which Do You Prefer? Male Lead Characters or Female Leads?

I just want leads that have inner monologues while being voiced by Tomokazu Sugita.  The gender of the character he VAs for would not matter.

This comment is only half joking.

General Discussion » Anime with extraordinary animation.

Redline is the most recent film choice, as are the latest Evangelion movies. But this year was a year of really, really strong OVAs, which, being thirty to hour long episodes produced once per two or three months, they have really high production value as well. And Break Blade is a fucking delicious OVA.

So I've been playing a lot of Dynasty Warriors Gundam 3 the past 2 days, and I was thinking about how the only Gundam series I've seen are Gundam Wing (kinda meh on this one, but Endless Waltz was awesome) and G Gundam (love this shit). I've also seen 08th MS Team but barely remember it, outside of liking it. So, what are some recommended Gundam series I should also see?

Also, I've been enjoying using Garrod/Double X and Banagher Links/Unicorn a lot. How are their respective animes? And what kind of name is Banagher anyway?

Gundam Unicorn is an on-going OVA. It's up to 4 episodes thus far out of a planned total of 6 I believe. Because it's an OVA, its episodes have very, very high production values. However, it also comes at the heel of the Universal Century time-line. As such, it references characters and events from previous shows in the timeline, and you would need to, if not watch, at least read the wikipedia plot summaries of these following shows: Gundam, Stardust Memories, Gundam Z, Gundam ZZ, and Char's Counter Attack. That said, it's still very watchable on its own merits. Also Banagher is a very Tomino name, in the same league as Glemy Toto, Haman Karn, and Ramba Ral.

Gundam X is a late 90s show that was actually produced right after, and thus overshadowed by Gundam Wing. It takes place in the Alternate Universe timeline, and is thus completely standalone. The show itself is all about newtypes more so than any other Gundam show. Story is a bit cheesy and it's animation is very 90s, though not as poor as Wing, but I still enjoyed it greatly.

I'll also leave this link for you, which I leave for anyone that wonders what show in the Gundam franchise to watch.
