General Discussion » The Anime Industry according to Studio Madhouse

Otaku USA recently released a review/summary of a book written by Studio Madhouse on the history and inner workings of the anime industry in Japan, along with some harsh business realities. It's definitely worth a read for anyone interested, and can be found here.

The plot of the next few episodes reminds me of Animorphs for some strange reason.

Well, for astronomy nerds out there, I guess episode 5 has just spoiled a plot point.

This episode is probably gonna be one of the last times we get some more jokes at Sasha's expense, so enjoy them while it lasts folks.

Though, I wonder how far in the show will actually get in its 25 episodes. At its current pace, we'll be hitting the end without Eren actually going on his first expedition with the recon corp.

It seems like the series knows how implausible it was for Haruto to pilot the Valvrave without any training. So I'm guessing they are saving the answer for a plot twist. I'm going to guess that the Valvrave has inject Haruto the instructions to control the Valrave, so Haruto will know how to use the robot instinctively like how he was able to use a gun in L-elf's body. It sounds implausible, but so does rigging 4 floors with bombs in 15 minutes and predicting that you will meet someone at an exact location at an exact time. Speaking of which, the latest episode (episode 4) really has some twists and turns that are just hard to believe.

Only thing I was thinking of after that line.

Hmm, can't say I'm the that fond of Mikasa's more dolled up look at the end of ep2 there. It's probably because of the lip coloration and the long hair more than anything else.

I wouldn't worry about that long hair, it'll be gone in a bit.

Oh, right. She's told to cut it. Forgot about that.

Well, Haruto has certainly shown himself to be quite...absurd. It feels like Sunrise is trying to create their own Shinji, except what made Ikari's character work was consistency in feelings (I don't want to do this) and motivations (I want to get the praise of my father). Haruto on the other hand switches from that of a cold blooded killer to one hell of a wuss. This contrast plays out in combat as well, being a complete novice one minute, and dodging like an ace the next.

Well, we'll see how creative the combat will get once the various modes get factored in.

@Turambar: I think the series did explain how Haruto did so well in the robot. It looked like the robot had something close to the Gundam Unicorn's system where the robot does the fighting or the pilot just thinks something and the robot does it.

Not quite. You can clearly notice thrust control sticks on the two sides of the pilot seat, much like the Unicorn without the NTD system active. Banagher also at least has the justification that his education, which is designed to ensure him a job at Anaheim electronics, would teach him at least basic control of a mobile suite.

So what's the over under on hideous finding earth?

It's interesting to note that actual combat between Ledo/Chambers against any other enemy is actually absent from the initial OP, which is a pretty nice touch.

@takashichea: I feel the same since I haven't played either Devil Survivor game, but I played the Persona games from 3 onwards, which was why I was able to recognize some of the monsters.

The SMT franchise as a whole has maintained the same aesthetic for their demons / personas / what have you for the many games now. Well, its not as if Byakko is ever going to not look like a white tiger though.

Out of the 3 mecha shows this season, this first episode was certainly the most frustrating. Sunrise usually goes to lengths to justify both the combat performance and willingness of the child to climb into the cockpit, from the child of renowned engineers, to child soldiers, to literal super humans. Haruto's debut sadly falls short on both counts.

That speaks nothing to his inability to grasp so simple of a UI that the entire audience understood immediately.

Compared to the other two mecha shows this season. this show does spends alot of time doing slapstick. I kind of wished it spent more time on mecha battles. So far, everyone else who has seen this series has found the humor to be very funny. I guess that it's not for me.

A very light hearted space opera as plot... It definitely feels like a super robot show in a real robot skin in terms of setting.

For all the harem and faux-incest in the show, the first season actually managed to do some rather clever things with the theme of justifying one's hobbies. The second season has a lot to live up to.

Having read the manga, the degree to which Eren is shown swinging around on the 3D Maneuver Gear is kind of hilarious.

Does this show remind you of Aesthetica of a Rogue Hero because we got big boobed, bodacious babe who has nobility and a human hero?

Probably more accurate to call it Spice and Wolf with bigger boobs (not more boobs mind you).  Though I suspect it won't be quite as economics heavy as S&W was, but another Jun Fukuyama and Ami Koshimizu duet is welcomed.

General Discussion » Is there a "superman" in anime/manga?

@SMXLR8 said:

@Turambar: i said status to begin with

His need to live in space makes a difference how then?

Your seeming refusal to differentiate between the cultural status bestowed upon a character from the audience and the in-world status bestowed upon the character due to his characteristics makes this entire question a fool's venture.

Are you looking for cultural status, or are you looking for physical resemblance? Be clearer with your parameters if you want a satisfying answer, or simply stop being so curt.
