  • The one that sings the rock intro to Dirty Pair Flash. I think it was the first series. Also, Bump of Chicken. Bonnie Pink. I'm just not that in to J-Rock anymore. :/

  • I like the Gunslinger Girl dub. Even if they changed Giuseppe's name. And the Negima! dub is hilarious if you listen to the commentary. I don't know about you but the thought that a 20-something voice actress from Texas is playing a British vampire and robot, and doing a laughably bad job of it is just so fun to me.

  • Well I don't know about you guys and gals, but One Outs is something I think people should watch. If you like things like Eyeshield 21 or Prince of Tennis or something. It's the best anime about baseball that isn't about baseball at all. And you know how baseball can be boring to some people? One Outs makes baseball tense and awesome. So, yeah, One Outs. Also, gotta say Fist ...

Gunslinger Girl. Not just because The Delgados are an amazing band and the song fits beautifully with the mood of the show, but because I love when European bands do anime intros. Which doesn't seem to happen. Also gotta throw in a nod to Baccano for that awesome jazzy tune. And also gotta give props to One Outs for the nice musical progression from soft to hard soft.

Just thought I'd make with the intro blog. I'm not really a fan of blogging, though it does help the writing process. I came here from GiantBomb (seems to be the case with some). And I must say: Finally the two things I can get behind have a nifty site with which I can prove how much of a nerd I am. And I welcome all nerds like myself. Anyway, anything you really wanted to know about me is in my About Me section <------ that way. So, I hope some of us will be able to get along. See ya around, I suppose.

Gunslinger Girl is truly a hit or miss series. Many judge it by the first episode in which little, if anything, happens giving it an air of banality. It isn't until this episode, Ragazzo, that the overall mood and tone of the series is finally set. The episode shifts the focus away from heroine Henrietta to flesh out the character of Rico; the first instance of many in which the show shifts the focus of the narrating character. The set up for the conflict is essentially a choice of the heart as Rico has to decide what is most important to her. However, this detail is not what gives the episode the emotinal impact; it's the way the characters interact and develop through a mix of dialogue, wonderful acting, and animation.

The setting lends a hand nicely, given that the story takes place in Italy, this leads to beautiful backdrops. Though this episode mostly removes those and focuses on interior shots, it works well with the theme and conflict of the episode. But of course the characters of Rico and Emilio truly make the episode stand out so early in the series. Both characters, even though they can be considered minor or secondary (Emilio doubly so), show such wonderful development and emotion all through interaction and dialogue. It really tears at the heartstrings as it goes on.

For first time viewers, this is the perfect episode to see as it is usually the point when those bored with the exposition of the first two episodees finally start to become interested. While not the most emotional episode, it's certainly in the top three. And in a series such as Gunslinger Girl, that's quite an accomplishment.
