List of Slice of Life Shows I Watched

Usually, I'm not into slice of life show since I'm a shonen and comedy fan. This is a list of shows in order that I tried.

I got into the genre back in the summer with Tari Tari.

1. Sket Dance

Fall 2011
It was a recommendation from PiFace314. Even though this was my first slice of life, I wouldn't count it as my first true one. Sket Dance was more comedic like Gintama.

2. Tari Tari

Summer 2012
I tried it because of the art style. My 2nd Slice of Life show - I count this as my first true show. I worked on the series as a wiki project with Auron570 in the summer of 2012. I liked it. It's a character driven series that revolves around the dreams of these 5 children. Plus, it reflects the consequences of the declining birthrate in Japan.

3. The Pet Girl of Sakurasou

Winter 2013
My third slice of life show. It was recommended by Daniel, a buddy of mine who worked on Fairy Tail with the gang. It's a great romantic slice of life show. I didn't realize I enjoyed romantic shows with a love triangle.

4. Haganai

Spring 2013
Dropped it.
Taking Daniel's recommendation, I tried the show, but I didn't like it. I stopped at the end of season 1. The only character I like was Rika. Since I was still under Pet Girl of Sakura mode, I expected some heavy drama and romance. No, Haganai is light hearted and full of fan service. It just didn't reeled me in enough to continue to the next season. It was boring most of the time since most of the characters just play game.

5. Oreimo

Spring 2013
This is Daniel's third recommendation. I expected to hate this show, but somehow, episode 1 had me laughing hysterically. At first, I was disturbed by the summary. I thought it was going to be creepy since it involved incest. I loved Oreimo because of the characters and how much they push the story. I just didn't like the ending of Oreimo 2. I prefer the ambiguous ending of Oreimo 2. It leaves room for speculation.

6. Oreshura

Dropped it - superficial harem series.

7. My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU

Dropped it - annoying characters. Episode 1 was bad.

8. Silver Spoon

Summer 2013
Since Hiromu Arakawa was the creator, I was interested in seeing what kind of story she wrote. I loved the show. It's a simple show but it was deep. It explored the dreams of students and their struggle.

9. Nagi no Asukara

Fall 2013
The summary and the trailer made me interested in this show. I was pleased by the first episode and its characters. It has beautiful animation and a love square. Plus, it has racial issues which enticed me. I'm a sociological nutjob. I love seeing these issues.

I wanted to ask you about Sket Dance. How was it?

@bigz007:

Sorry for the late PM. I just got home and a lot of PMs about spite and joke threads in the battle forums. It's a mess for now.

About Sket Dance, I expected that I would hate this show, but it surprised me. It's a comedic gag, slice of life anime like Gintama. Most episodes seem episodic, but it does have plot as the students reach graduation. The manga and anime had ended. Sket Dance is pretty character driven. Sometimes, the jokes are pretty cultural, so you may not understand them. The humor is a hit or miss when Bossun impersonates famous folks from Japanese culture or when they make fun of Americans.

Okay, thanks... I might give it a try.

@bigz007:

I know you for a while, but I never know your tastes in anime and manga. Are you a big fan of slice of life shows? I wasn't one since I only liked a few.

It's hard to describe what is my preferred genre since I like to see everything. It would be hard for me if I would have to watch only one or two genres. That is why I'm always searching some something different and new. The things I can't stand are plot induced stupidity and overusing of the same old joke.

P.S. I have a mission to watch every single anime out there and read every single manga, and yeah, I know it's impossible : )
