Female leads in general are yuri a significant portion of the time nowadays.
My mind flashed to Legend of Korra and Kill la Kill, our most recent shows that were frequently mentioned in the LBGT communities.
Female Leads vs Male Leads in terms of what is the sexual orientation trend. For shonen male leads, it's always heterosexual. Trying to think of a female lead in Shonen. All I got was Kagome from Inuyasha. Controversially, you can argue Kagome is the lead while Inuyasha is the titular character, title character. Same situation applies to Akame ga Kill.
I forgot to mentioned I never finished Card Captor Sakura nor Sailor Moon. Been meaning to complete them like the rest of my middle school anime shows back in the Toonami and 4Kids era. Only did Inuyasha. I remember you completed the marathon before me. Good times.
So that's what happened in Card Captor Sakura. I didn't remember Tomoyo. I believe 4Kids might omitted her since I heard the network had altered the anime series so that Li was the main character not Sakura. I was surprised at how far they went with censorship. I didn't notice it as a kid. I was too blind.
Among mahou shoujo titles I've seen, only other ones I can think of that play with yuri undertones are Fate/ Kaleid Prisma Illya and Lyrical Nanoha.
This is what happens when I study a lot. I forget things. I totally forgot Fate/Kaleid Liner Prisma Illya. Watched it. Agreed with the yuri pandering scenes. It had somewhat a balance. Despite not being the main character, Shirou ended up being a harem lead since all the girls had feelings for him.
