Hello everyone! Welcome to the first ever Italian anime spotlight blog!

Inspirations: Well, I had this crazy idea today when I was looking over La Storia della Arcana Famiglia and Campione! points of interest sections. Almost every episode, I list an Italian word used in that episode. I don't know why I do that every time. I'm weird that way.

Yet, these new summer anime series have two things in common: harem and Italian themes.

La Storia della Arcana Famiglia

Here's a synopsis that BigHeart711 and I wrote together.

The story revolves around Felicitá who is main female lead, and she finds herself as the prize for Arcana Duello. Her father, Mundo, is retiring and hosts to tournament, and whoever wins this contest of Arcana Powers shall have the right to be new successor of the Arcana Famiglia (mafia) family and the right to marry Felicitá. Though, Felicitá objects and works hard to gain her independence and sovereignty in the family.

You got an Italian mafia, Italian food, most of the tarot cards/ Arcana Powers, and names of characters are Italian. All of the episodes' name are in Italian.

Here's a list of Italian words I typed down in the episode wiki list.

  • Bambina - Little lady. It was first used by Debito who always calls Felicitá, bambina. It sounds exotic every time Debito says it.
  • Calcio is an Italian word for football or soccer.
  • Famiglia means family.
  • Giappone is an Italian word for Japan.
  • Piccolino - an event for little children. (I'm not sure about the literal translation)
  • Regalo - gift. (I saw this was a Spanish word, so I might be wrong to list this one. I was curious what Regalo meant.)

If I'm wrong in the translation, feel free to correct me.

Episode Titles

  1. La notte del compleanno - The Birthday Night
  2. Il Comandante della Squadra Protezione Animali - Commander of the Animal Protection Team
  3. Piccolino
  4. Confessioni di una maschera - Confessions of a Mask
  5. Amichi d'infanzia - Childhood Friends

Note: I think Arcana is a Latin word when I saw it meant sacred power.

Sorry, I'll add the character names later. I got to do some wiki pages and study.

Hi everyone! I'm Takashichea, a wiki editor who usually works on Shonen titles but work in other genre. (For those who haven't get the chance to know me).

This time, I have a question for you guys and gals.

Do you think reverse harem series that was started as an otome game have a good anime/manga adaptation?

An otome game is a game that is generally directed towards female audience. Usually, these games are dating sims for young women that have multiple routes/bachelors where the player plays the game to establish a relationship with the man of their choice.

Examples:

Synopsis

Alice in the Country of Hearts

Alice in the Country of Hearts
Alice in the Country of Hearts

For Alice in the Country of Hearts franchise, they had multiple manga adaptations and a movie. For the manga, there is one based on the original game (Alice in the Country of Hearts) and the others are side stories that elaborate on relationships with other men. There is no anime series.

On seemingly ordinary afternoon with her sister, Alice Liddel is kidnapped by a rabbit who turns into a man that claims he loves Alice. After falling down the rabbit hole, the the man forces Alice to drink a "weird tasting" liquid from a little vial. The man, who introduces himself as Peter White, tells her that she is in Wonderland and can not go home and that she has to participate in the "Game". This "Game" governs Wonderland, giving specific beings 'roles' and 'faces' who must abide by the 'rules', and as such, Alice is a 'foreigner' which, by the 'rules', means all of the role-holders must love Alice. Alice is forced to interact with the inhabitants of Wonderland in order to fill a vial, that when it is filled, will allow her to go home if she desires.

My Experiences and Answer

I have been working on La Storia della Arcana Famiglia and Alice in the Country of Hearts franchise. I have been reading the Alice in the Country of Heart manga but not the other side stories. To avoid spoilers, the ending leaves a lot to be desired since there were many ambiguities and Lewis Carrol's novel is infamous for causing a lot of confusion. There was no route or relationship established in that series. For the side stories, I believed were created to cater to fans who support a certain gentlemen.

In La Storia della Arcana Famiglia, it's hard to say because the anime is still new, and I haven't play the visual novel game or the PSP version.

What I believed is that it's difficult to based a manga or anime on a Reverse Harem style otome game because you have multiple love interests/routes. You can't do multiple endings like you can do in a video game. The female lead tends to suffer because there is so much focus on the love interests.

My answer: They don't make a good manga or anime adaptation. I'm hoping Arcana Famiglia can change my views on this topic.

I wonder if harem series based video games face these similar challenges like Princess Lover!. It's probably same, but I will post a blog since harem manga and anime series tend to be more popular.

Hey everyone, welcome to the Weekly Fairy Tail report. We are on the 17th episode of this massive filler arc. Last week, we saw the Fairy Tail guild get their butts kicked the Oracion Seis again. This week's episode is a bit mellow and dark.

Plot

Oracion Seis has made off with the Infinity Clock and seems intent on counting down to doomsday. Meanwhile, Fairy Tail regroups, using Cana's divination skills to locate Oracion Seis's targets and choose the best teams to go after them.

Verdict

Beware of spoilers!

Good

Wendy and Bixlow - a loli and a mage who screams babies
Wendy and Bixlow - a loli and a mage who screams babies
  • Despite the lack of action, this episode did a good job of setting up for the next episode's fights.
  • There are still questions left unanswered such as who is the mysterious girl with the green Plue, how did Lucy's father get involved with the clock, and who is the girl that Cobra is referring to (It's Kinana, but I have a feeling Kinana is something else).
  • Fairy Tail New Teams: Since Fairy Tail has an enormous roster of characters, it's excellent to see different people pairing up. I loved how Gray & Freed and Bixlow & Wendy are paired up. Wendy and Bixlow are an unusual pair.

Fairy Tail Teams

Mysterious girl - A disciple of Will Neville?
Mysterious girl - A disciple of Will Neville?
  1. Freed and Gray
  2. Erza, Evergreen, and Max
  3. Gajeel and Juvia
  4. Bickslow and Wendy
  5. Happy, Carla, and Pantherlily
  6. Natsu, Lucy, Elfman, and Michelle

What is your favorite match up in this episode?

Bad

  • Fairy Tail is a light anime, and violence is not graphic or bloody. When the Cardinal punishes the priest, you can hear him scream in agony. It's up to fans who want the anime uncensored or not.
  • The arc is long, but Hiro Mashima is trying to create a gap between manga's plotline and the anime. It's going to be tough to keep watching. I hope this arc ends well.
  • The new character Guttman or Gatman is like Jackpot. You can't take them seriously.

Overall, this episode is good but not great as well. It's light on the humor and action.

Thanks

Hey everyone, welcome to the Weekly Campione! report. I'm Taka, a wiki editor, for those who are new to the community. Last week's episode had a lot of lip service between Godou and two lovely ladies: Athena and Erica. This week, Athena's battle with Godou comes to an end. Let's go over the highlights.

Plot

As the battle wages between Godou, Erica, and Athena, Athena claims the Gorgoneion and ancient trinity which allows Athena to become an adult.

Can Godou stop Athena in her true form?

Verdict

Beware of spoilers!

Good

Arianna: "stares"
Arianna: "stares"
  • The action is good. It's quite balanced between the talking and fighting in Godou's battle with Athena.
  • More French kissing: I think this would be a big theme in Campione! because kissing in their world is the transfer of knowledge. I keep thinking about Teen Titans where Starfire kisses Robin to learn human language. I might make it a concept page, but I have to talk to my fellow wiki editors.
  • Sorry for being off tangent. Erica's relationship with Godou is very amusing. I like how she's so flirty and proactive while Godou tries to restrain her. The scene where she says she is his number one makes me laugh. Unlike weak male leads who are afraid of girls, Godou's character is much better than those guys.

Bad

  • For those who prefer their fights without talking, Godou explains a lot about Athena's origin. I didn't mind it. It was a challenge to type the overall message about Athena in the episode wiki page.

This episode is great with action, lip service, flirty women, and some humorous moments. I hope to see more of Athena. I have a feeling that she could be Godou's ally.

Gallery

Please check out the gallery. For more images, check out Campione!'s anime series' gallery.

I like how Yuri is shocked when she sees Erica and Godou are kissing.

Welcome to the 2nd Platonic Harem blog! I dropped the weekly part since I can't do it every week due to school and wiki projects.

Synopsis

For those who haven't tried Fate Stay Night:

It is about a young teenage boy named Shirou whose dream is to become a hero of justice like his late father, Emiya Kiritsugu. When he stumbles upon a fight between two servants and accidentally summons Saber who protects, his life is forever changed. Shirou finds himself fighting against other mages and their servants who are heroes of the past in the Holy Grail War. Whoever wins the Holy Grail has the right to make wish on this holy chalice.

Fate Stay Night is based on the visual novel game that has three routes: Fate, Unlimited Bladeworks, and Heavens Feel. In each route, Shirou is the main character while the female lead changes.

  • Fate: Shirou and Saber
  • UBW: Shirou and Rin Tohsaka
  • Heavens Feel: Shirou and Sakura Matou

What is a Platonic Harem?

I use Platonic to refer to harems where you have a group of girls or guys that can form a relationship with the opposite sex. However, unlike traditional harems, there could only be one relationship at a time. Platonic means every day.

Characters

Beware of spoilers!

Shirou Emiya
Shirou Emiya
Shirou Emiya is our male lead with a strong sense of justice. In Fate Stay Night, he is known for his quote: People die when they're killed. He's not a gifted mage since he knows reinforce and trace on. His partner is Saber for all routes. From a weak mage, Shirou quickly becomes strong and capable of holding himself up.

In all of the routes of Fate Stay Night visual novel, he can form a relationship with one girl at a time. Since Fate Stay Night visual novel is an eroge, the relationship becomes very intimate and deep for each girl.
Saber
Saber
Saber is a beautiful knight who is the female version of King Arthur, and she is the Saber class which is known for their high offensive and balance stats. Like Shirou, she follows a code of honor. In the Fate route and Fate Stay Night anime, Shirou and Saber are partners whose relationship blossoms into love. Due to censorship, their intimacy is concealed. To see the truth, check out the Implied Sex Scene.
Rin Tohsaka
Rin Tohsaka
She's an bright, gifted mage whose partner is Archer. Rin helps Shirou learn how to use magic and the rules of the Holy Grail, and she becomes his ally. In the Unlimited Blade Works movie and route of the same name, Rin and Shirou can share a special relationship. Though, Shirou has to break through Rin's Tsundere barrier to get to know Rin up close and personal. Their romance becomes more interwined when Shirou learns who he is and Rin bonds with both Archer and Shirou.
Sakura Matou
Sakura Matou
Sakura is Shirou's shy classmate who has a crush on Shirou. Her role varies in the 3 Fate Routes. Sakura has the potential to become a great mage, but other masters try to use her for their personal gains. There is no anime or manga series that is exclusive to the Heavens Feel route, the route for Shirou and Sakura's romantic relationship.
Illyasviel von Einzbern is mage from the north who looks sweet and innocent, but she is quite sadistic. For some odd reason, she has a thing for Shirou. There is no route or anime for Illyasviel's relationship with Shirou. One can only imagine a loli-esque relationship.

Conclusion

Fate Stay Night Female Leads
Fate Stay Night Female Leads

Fate Stay Night is a strong example of platonic harem since Shirou can only form one relationship at a time. Each route in the visual novel is dedicated to that. Only two relationships have appeared in the anime world, Fate Stay Night and Unlimited Blade Works movie. Both of them do a great job in revealing the inner works of Shirou's relationships.

I enjoyed the Fate Stay Night series and its prequel, Fate Zero. It's a series that focuses on magic and the Holy Grail, but underneath it lies some good romance stories.

Question: Which relationship you guys and gals loved the most?

I haven't play the visual novel, so I don't know much about Sakura Matou's relationship with Shirou. If I make a mistake, please feel free to correct me.
