Anime Vice Members' Little Anime/Manga Recommendations

Inspired by Superevil225's Suggested List, I keep track of what anime or manga people suggest to me on Anime Vice. I tried their anime and manga and so far I liked most of them. Some recommendations are not directly suggested because I pick it up from reading their beginner guide, review, or their wiki work. Anime Vice is the place for people to try new stuff here because a lot of them are beginners or bored and dying for something new. I'm a newbie on this stuff because I haven't watch or read much anime and manga.

1. Beelzebub

Anna never directly suggested this series. In January or February, I noticed she worked hard on this series' wiki page. I tried it with my little sis and bro. We all liked it. Sometimes, I try franchises on Anna's list from time to time because we have similar taste.

2. Yankee-kun And Megane-chan

Anna suggested to me during Spring 2011. I tried it, and I liked most of it. Sometimes, Hana gets a bit annoying and Daichi can be a jerk. I love their weird relationship, but they can't seem to confess. I can't remember where am I in the manga. I get easily lost in manga.

3. Gosick

HalberdierV2's wiki work and blog made me want to view it. It got me into a huge wiki project in July 2011. Too bad, I couldn't finish the show or the anime project. Too much school and other wiki project work.

4. Durarara!!

In the summer of 2011, Wales worked hard on this series. He wanted to write a review on it, but many others had wrote it. Seeing his work, I decided to try this. Watched the first 2 episodes, but I had no time to finish it with the many wiki projects I'm involved in. (in Fall 2011)

5. Baccano!

Fall 2011 - I read Superevil225's beginner guide on it. Will read it in the winter.

6. Highschool of the Dead

I remember AgentJ's watch and learn blogs on them, but I could never try the series due to its content. The only time I tried it was for a wiki work, implied sex scene. In fall 2011, I read Sotyfan16's beginner guide on it, and I have to give it another try.

7. Heaven's Lost Property

ShadowKnight508 recommended it after we talked about the wiki work. His wiki work has so much detail on it. Gosh, I never seen so much dedication to story arcs. Sadly, I haven't got around to watch it.

8. Sora no Otoshimono

11-28-11 - I just read ShadowKnight508's first review on it. I will try it during winter break.

9. Guilty Crown

I read Kuro's Guilty Crown weekly blogs. Got me curious and to work on the wiki project with him during October 2011.

10. Gurren Lagann Parallel Works 2

I read LordBane666's blog, What's next for old LB, after seeing that he loves Guilty Crown and High School DxD. The story sound for High School DxD sounds interesting.

11. You and Me

12-9-11 - KuroNekoXIII recommend it due to an idea of Roman's craptastic drawings.
I haven't tried it yet.

12. One Piece

June 2012: I finally became a true anime fan once I got into One Piece. A lot of people were surprised that I haven't even tried One Piece.
DestinyHeroKnight and ShadowKnight508 recommend it. FoxxFireArt's passion for its wiki pages is also instrumental.

13. Puella Magi Madoka Magica

July 2012: I finally took on BigHeart711's recommendation since I was curious why everyone praised it as the best anime of 2011. It changed my view of magical girls forever. I can't look at Sailor Moon the same way.

14. Astarotte's Toy

Daniel Newton and Sotyfan16 got me into it. I hated it at first, but it grew on me. I had to get used to the fan service and lolicon feeling.

15. Angel Beats!

Sotyfan16 recommend to me via Twitter.
January 2012: At first, I thought it was cutesy Moe show with doe eyed girls, but I was wrong. Most of the cast were guys with only three prominent girls. I was surprised how seriously funny and tragic this show is. It had these big mood swings.

16. IS <Infinite Stratos>

Sotyfan16 recommend to me via Twitter.

17. Dream Eater Merry

Sotyfan16 recommend to me via Twitter.

18. Black Lagoon

In the Binbogami Ga! fan service Vice Pit news, Sonata made some references to it, and he totally recommend it.

19. Buster Keel!

8-12-2012: I finally tried one of Annabanana's beloved manga. She told me how it was like the 2nd Fairy Tail with a bit of RPG in it. I was surprised how similar it was to Fairy Tail.

20. Eden of The East

Wales recommend it.

21. Eureka Seven: Astral Ocean

Wales recommend it.

22. Love Hina

Wales recommend it.

23. Cheeky Angel

PenguinDust recommend it when I was looking for a good reverse harem show. Its premise remind me of Ranma 1/2 which I haven't tried either. The female lead is actually a boy who was turned into a girl by a bad genie.

24. Kure-nai

sickVisionz recommend it when I talked about Gosick.

25. Steins;Gate

After Acura Max got me into Robotics;Notes during the fall of 2012, he recommended to me to try Steins;Gates to appreciate little Akiho's references in the anime.
I got to watch it with him and Aleasha in January of 2013 via Aleasha's chat room. I only got to watch two episodes. I wish I got to watch more with my friends, but I was too busy.

26. Clannad

After finishing Angel Beats in January of 2012, I heard about Clannad from the fans when they were debating which series is better (more like which is more sadder). I saw this series on Daniel's favorites list. Now, I'm curious about the show.

27. Accel World

Supreme Marvel got me in the anime when we talking on the Sword Art Online discussion thread.

28. Lovely Complex

UsaChanMan: Its a funny romantic comedy, lol and all the characters have an Osaka accent (so everybody is talking like Himeko! XD). Its worth giving a shot! :D

29. 5 Centimeters Per Second

UsaChanMan recommended it to me. I can't remember when, but I finally got to watch in May.

30. Wolf Children

UsaChanMan recommend this movie after she and I chat about 5 Centimeters Per Second. Here is her Twitter Quote:
Well tbh the movie did make me cry. It not the same as 5cm/min tho. I advise u to hear the song in the credits & read the subs ...hearing the song was what made me cry XD The movie will also make you see things in a mother's perspective, which I liked :)

31. Psycho-Pass

Supreme Marvel and Acura Max recommended the show to help me expand on my sci fi anime experience.

32. Monogatari

Supreme Marvel recommended this. From the discussion thread:
"I have to say, I've loved every episodes of each series. I love the characters so much. Love the world it's in. The animation I love. There isn't an aspect I don't love. I rank it so highly."

33. Koi Kaze

Dream recommended this to me in the Oreimo discussion thread. It's a mature series that focuses on incest, a taboo subject in our society.

34. Elfen Lied

sickVisionz: I loved it 5 years ago but back then I loved anything ridiculously over depressing. If that floats ur boat tho, check it out.

35. Psyren

DestinyHeroKnight recommended it to me on the Quick Picks September 2013 Edition.
"It have a Bleach/Yu yu hakusho feel to it and it have pretty fight scenes."

36. One-Punch Man

Reincrystal and DestinyHeroKnight recommended the manga to me.

37. Patlabor

Marshal Victory recommended it when we're talking about Valvrave at the Valvrave discussion. http://www.animevice.com/anime-vice-discussion-threads/22-2380/valvrave-the-liberator-discussion/97-338777/?page=4

38. Kiss×Sis

LHWKnight (My Recently Sister is Unusual Discussion) I would recommended it if you were okay with the whole not real siblings so it's okay, also their parents are the greatest parents in the universe lmao. The anime is actually good from like a simple story point of view with some stuff on the level of this show, but hey what can you do. but there are also OVA's that go crazy, they do almost "every thing" short of sex. Also the manga is actually pretty funny and they picked best girl in my opinion, won't tell you who but, I believe that most men out there would give the MC a round of applause lmao. my advice if you are going to watch the series, just be prepared for sister who are afraid to show how much they want their brother that they have absolutely no family ties short of their parents getting married. other than that no what's funny is that the MC actually goes in on a few times, so at least he isn't as bad as most harem leads.

39. Hunter × Hunter (2011)

sickVisionz (Hunter x Hunter recommendation) I think it's the best battle shonen. It's darker than the rest, but still funny but not stretched to zaniness like Toriko and One Piece and they don't go insane with all the power of friendship/nakama stuff like Fairy Tail, One Piece and Naruto do.

40. Claymore

I like Claymore very much. I like the story, the unexpected twists, character interaction and action.
From the Top 20 Manga Series of 2013

41. Aria the Scarlet Ammo

Haiken http://www.animevice.com/forums/battles/33/tooyama-kinji-vs-satomi-rentaro/347211/
It draws parallels to Black Bullet.

42. Ghost Hunt

Recommended by DBZ_Universe

43. The Familiar of Zero

Marshal and Fabium recommend the series to me in the Best Harem Anime of 2014: http://www.animevice.com/forums/just-anime/20/best-harem-anime-series-2014-so-far/348787/?page=last#reply_form

44. Wagnaria!!

Working!! is kind of similar to Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun in that there is no real plot, but day to day activities and funny interactions between quirky characters. It's a fun show, but can be a bit of draining at moments. My main complaint is the one rather vexing female character who unfortunately takes up a lot of screen time in season one. But it seems that some viewers hate her, while others love her. On the other hand I had a kick out of Jouji Nakata's voice acting in this show. He has a tiny role, but sounds so much different from his usual style of roles (Alucard, Count of Monte Cristo, etc.). Quite lovable actually. The opening is pretty fun too.

45. anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day

46. Cooking Master Boy
47. Hunter × Hunter

Falbium's recommendation: Oh you should totally watch HxH it's a really good anime the chimera ant arc is good but is a little dark.

48. The Law of Ueki

GeneralVan's recommendation: http://www.animevice.com/forums/general-discussion/1/obscure-animemanga-that-you-enjoy/317519/#16

49. Kamisama Hajimemashita

UsaChanMan: Because of the Wolf Girl and Black Prince and My Little Monster (http://www.animevice.com/forums/just-manga/19/weekly-manga-releases-march-17-2015/355300/)

Nice Idea! I should totally make a list of my own :)

Glad to see that my work on Heaven's Lost Property inspired you to put it on your "to-watch/read" list. Also glad to see you enjoying One Piece as well.

I still recommend reading the Heaven's Lost Property manga before you watch the anime. It covers much more than the two anime seasons did and has better humor, more random fails, more painful fails for Tomoki, and better character interaction/development.

Thanks for the recommendation! I definitely try the manga before the anime.

bigz007on Feb. 10, 2014 at 11:44 a.m.

Let me just say that Heaven's Lost Property is one of the worst anime of all time. I watched it only because I can't drop an anime and I don't like talking bad things about the stuff I didn't watch completely.

Story is lousy and poorly executed, character development is non existent and at some point the main protagonist is about to rape a girl (I almost puked to that scene)... it is supposed to be funny but it really isn't... at least not to me...

You can see for yourself from images that main protagonist is in 98% of the cases in his chibi mode. The reason why he is chibi so much is because it will be creepy if he is shown as a normal character.

I mean of course people will find it disgusting if a "normal" character tries to rape a girl... but if it's a chibi character doing the mischief than it's cute and interesting. (I'm being sarcastic ofc)

I strongly recommend not to watch it, that's it from me...

I haven't tried the show yet. I'm okay with opinions against a show. It's a nice change of pace. I'll include your talk on Heaven's Lost Property along with ShadowKnight508's recommendation. It would be fun! I tried to involve folks to make this community more livelier. For the past AV Recommendation/Experiences blogs I did, I did love all of the shows I tried except one show on this list. I only had one show I didn't enjoy much. That was 's recommendation on Haganai. I guess it was because of how much I enjoyed Pet Girl Sakurasou. I had false hype about Haganai.

I watched it only because I can't drop an anime and I don't like talking bad things about the stuff I didn't watch completely.

Maybe I should take up on that motto. I dropped Yu-Sibu, Diabolik Lovers, Pupa, and Recently My Sister is Unusual.

bigz007on Feb. 10, 2014 at 1:46 p.m.

Hm... Haganai is on my want to watch list. I don't know who recommended it to me but I was pretty exited to watch it. I'll have to think about it, thanks for saying it...

Yu-Sibu is also very bad but I had to finish it. The show have some potential but the story didn't evolve at all.

Pupa is somewhat bearable to watch because it doesn't last that long (less than 3 minutes if we take away opening and ending), but I sure have a feeling that it would be hard to watch it if it lasts 23 minute per episode.

I believe I dodged a bullet with My Sister is Unusual, I didn't even watch ep 1 since I heard it's very bad. If I watched the first episode, I would be forced to watch it completely.

Depends on your tastes and experiences, I remember you like K-on! I never watched K-on!, but I learned from folks that it was boring and was mostly about girls eating cake instead of doing music and fan service, mainly the cute female interactions.

Haganai is like K-on! with its plot only. What I hate about Haganai is that it's a slow slice of life show about girls playing video games and doing other activities, like going to the beach and attending a festival. The thing with Haganai's first season, it focuses on two main girls, Yozora and Sena. The male lead has some presence, but he isn't the main focus of the show. He's pretty flat to me. That's to be expected since most generic male leads of harem shows are supposed to be flat because you emphasizing the girls along with fan service they would offer to titillate predominantly male audiences.

bigz007on Feb. 10, 2014 at 2:08 p.m.

I guess it's a combination of comedy and Mio that I like about K-On!

Mio is like Hinata without ninja powers, and I just love Hinata.

I admit first season was a bit lacking in character development, but the second season corrected that.

Because of a single AMV I decided to watch K-On!, Hyouka, ef - tales of memories (both seasons) and AnoHana... and I like all of them.

I'll have to watch Haganai at some point, but I'm gonna stall it for now.

DBZ_universe is online on Aug. 15, 2014 at 4:34 p.m.

You should try out Ghost Hunt. Is actually good in English since Todd Haberkorn voices Naru.

takashichea moderator is online on Aug. 15, 2014 at 4:40 p.m.

Thanks for the recommendation! I added it. Hope to see it.
