With all the good blogs being posted recently I've felt I should contribute. The trouble with that is I'm behind on my anime news, the entire Fall Season, and when I do a blog I want to have something that will provoke others to think about what I've said whether they are interested or displeased. I thought about this while at work last night (because I have nothing but time on my hands to think) but had to make sure i remembered because a number of ideas have been forgotten since I don't have an easy method of writing them down. So, without further ado, here are some unsolved mysteries of anime that plague my mind.

Note: If you know the answer or the manga solved any stated mystery then please inform me with a comment.

Ergo Proxy

What this one basically comes down to is series is a complete mindfuck. It was an interesting watch but I cannot get myself to go through it again as it is so confusing with a seemingly sped up ending. The mysteries for this show for me are: did Ergo Proxy save the world or reset shit and is it a post-apocalyptic world?

Tenchi Muyo! GXP

This one is probably silly but it's just something I want to know. At the end of show Seina is aboard his ship with an 8 woman crew. Now, he was scheduled to marry 4 of them when the other 4 kidnapped him during the ceremony. The mystery for me: did Seina marry all 8 of them or none at all?

Maburaho

As this is one of my favorite harems I just have to bring this up because it seemed like some closure was going to be made-only to be slapped in the face! Kazuki gets his soul pieced back together only to be separated in like 8 copies of himself. Therefore the mystery is: is that how it all ends or does Kazuki eventually get back to one body?

Afro Samurai

We all know it's better seeing Samual L. Jackson kicking samurai and robot ass (in voice) than getting motherfucking snakes off a motherfucking plane. Now, Afro has been through hell and back and even died for a minute but considering the very end of either the series or the movie ( I can't remember which and don't want to look it up) that has a quick view of Justice (yeah that dude's still alive after being sliced into little piece!) the mystery has to be: will they face off again and when will Afro get a damn vacation?

Black Lagoon

My love for this franchise is well documented on Anime Vice so of course I would have a question or two. Having not seen the second episode of Roberta's Blood Trail yet maybe an answer has been provided that I don't know about. The mysteries for me are: who is Dutch really, have Revy and Rock hooked up, and will there ever be another series full of such badass women (this one is debatable, I know)?

Code Geass

This is my favorite anime and what would a favorite or great anime be without a little unsolved mystery? Perhaps, at least to my knowledge, the mystery I pose here is one of the most heatedly debated ones of all anime. That mystery is: is Lelouch dead?

This one I have to give my thoughts. I say that Lelouch is the cart driver at the very end and my supporting evidence is that the driver has his head down and is only panned over and C.C. is talked to him. This the largest followed theory from what I've heard and read but I've also heard that the creators say that Lelouch is, in fact, dead.

I've been putting off this blog off for a little while now as I was waiting for Christmas to come and pass as I was getting a few more boxsets. I feel like this collection, the sum of my work since 2008, isn't too shabby in its variety of genres. There are some classics as well as some less-than-liked titles. Also, many of you will probably notice that the majority of the boxsets in my collection are FUNimation products. I can't help it that FUNimation handles just about all the series I have liked! In fact, it should show that FUNimation focuses very much on getting a variety of anime to suit just about any anime fan's taste. You can also see that I only have one manga and it is hentai. However, along with anime I am making manga my priority in reading material and 2011 will see me buying a nice sum. Speaking of sum, I do not have a comparison of my collection's retail price to the "bought" price. But I can tell you that the most expensive piece was bought on eBay for $69 ($120 retail) and my cheapest was free (courtesy of FUNimation-but total cost to the company was $150 (4 boxsets)). The total of my Christmas gifts from the past 2 years retailed $420 (9 boxsets). One final point I wish to make before showing the pictures below is that I have burnt copies of Hellsing, Onegai Teacher, and Onegai Twins (entire series for each) that are not present in the photos. Without further ado, Anime Vice Community, enjoy my visual offering!

I had this taken but then I forgot my manga.

Hey, I got the manga this time!
Hey, I got the manga this time!

You will have to forgive that I do not have a descending piece of furniture to take fancy pictures of me and my collection on. I used the couch and a couple pillows. First, I'll say that in the right corner is Ichigo's Hollification Mask, I am wearing a Super Saiyan 3 Goku t-shirt, and in my hands is the complete Slut Girl collection (I'm still working on the Wiki). I'll list the items from left to right. Top row: Afro Samurai (Director's Cut), Afro Samurai: Resurrection (Director's Cut), Afro Samurai (PS3), Dragonball (Season 1), and Dragonball (Season 2). Second row: Ikkitousen (The Complete Series) and Dragonball Z: Tree of Might. Third row: Girls Bravo (Complete Boxset), Elfen Lied (Complete Collection), Code Geass (Limited Edition Boxset 1), Samurai 7 (The Complete Series-BD), Gurren Lagann (Complete Collection-Anime Legend), Rin: Daughters of Mnemosyne (The Complete Series), Love Hina (The Complete Series), Negima!? Spring & Summer Specials, and Speed Grapher (The Complete Series-Viridian Collection). Fourth row: Death Note (Vol. 2 Boxset), Death Note (Vol. 1 Boxset), Bleach (Season 2 Boxset), Bleach (Season 3 Boxset), Tenchi Muyo! Ryo Ohki (The Complete Series-Viridian Collection), Tenchi Muyo! GXP (The Complete Series-Viridian Collection), Bubblegum Crisis: Tokyo 2040 (Ultimate Collection), and Samurai Harem (Complete Collection). Bottom row: Akira (BD), Basilisk (The Complete Series-BD), Claymore (The Complete Series-BD), Samurai Champloo (The Complete Series-BD), Ah! My Goddess (Complete Collection), Baki the Grappler (The Complete Series-Viridian Collection), Mobile Suit Gundam Wing (Complete Collection), and Black Lagoon (Complete Boxset).

MSN.com has a top article stating the full list of Golden Globe nominees. You can see the full list here. As many of you know, FUNimation applied for a Best Animated Film nod in the 83rd Academy Awards with the animated hit Summer Wars. 16 applicants are needed for 5 to be nominated and if less than that apply then only 3 will be considered. As of November 21, 15 films had been accepted for consideration and you can find that list here. As an anime fan, along with the rest of the AV community and beyond, anime could use a better public image and Summer Wars is surely to help. A nomination would also give FUNimation and Madhouse Studios a good American boost. Directed by Mamoru Hosoda (The Girl Who Leapt Through Time) and written by Satoko Okudera, the Warner Bros. Japan movie has had fans worldwide raving-especially on the web. FoxxFireArt gave you a breakdown and full detail about the US dates here in his blog.

Now, we all know the Golden Globes and Academy Awards are big deals and the committees have started being more favorable to foreign films in recent years but we could use a 4th win with Summer Wars. Though FUNi did not shoot for the Golden Globes, here are the final noms for Best Animated Film: Tangled, Toy Story 3, How To Train Your Dragon, Despicable Me, and The Illusionist. Personally, I have only seen How To Train Your Dragon and thought it was great. Tangled and Despicable Me look good and a lot of people liked Toy Story 3 but I had never heard of The Illusionist until I saw the nominee list. The competition is stiff this year especially as these same films are going for an Oscar nod as well. Summer Wars still has over a month before the list of Academy Awards nominees is announced so though I have not seen the film yet I encourage those who are in the areas where the film is screened to go watch it.

Keep you heads up anime fans and one day we and our eccentric hobby/job will get the recognition we deserve in other coutries than Japan.

Just when you thought you've seen crazy and eccentric..
Just when you thought you've seen crazy and eccentric..

Hello all you Anime Vice lunatics! Are you preparing to risk everything by moving to Japan to create manga? Well, I'm not (yet). Especially since I suck at drawing. But if you have the talent, the passion, and a dream..it still may not be enough. Nothing is easy, according to the creator of Peepo Choo and MBQ, Felipe Smith. ANN had two videos posted (one in English and one in Spanish) of an interview with Mr. Smith (no, not that one) about his advice for wanting to create manga in Japan as a foreigner. As your everyday anime fan I cannot say anything better than the man himself so you can watch the interview here. Videos are courtesy of Marc Baernabe from mastersofmanga.com.
