Anime Expo, one of the largest anime conventions in North America, is taking place this July 4th weekend. It started mere hours ago and already there have many announcements about anime licenses. So all of us can't be there (heck, I'm not even there), I decided to do a round-up of all of them as they come out. Without further ado, here is the list.
Coming on DVD and Blu-ray in 2012
For a while, I crashed and burned out on wiki-editing. I believe there was a time where any anime I watched was getting wiki edited by me and it actually had a negative impact on my me watching shows and actually not enjoying anime as much as I used to. I was lucky to have a season or two where almost everything I watched was being edited by someone else, which was a huge relief as I could go watch shows for fun rather than taking notes on character names, locations, concepts etc and spending hours cataloging screen shots. Plus, I think I was #9 on the site for wiki edits so I was pretty satisfied in having made my mark. Well, about a month ago I checked the user list and got a swift kick in the crotch as a result. Not only had I lost my Top 10 ranking, but I was actually #11 and there was. Even worse, the gap to #10 was in the area of 20k points, which for me is a huge number.
So, that got me in a bit of a panic about my lack of Wiki editing. Additionally, there are two glitched entries on my Top Contributions that I'm sick and tired of seeing up there. Both of them, Madara and a Paniponi Dash episode, are only there because of extreme jankiness in the old editor. I want them gone and the only way to do it is get 2,000 pts in enough things to drop them down.
There are three big projects I plan on continuing into July. One I should be able to finish in a weekend or two, one that will always be ongoing, and the other... well I'll make a nice dent in it.
I've started this a little bit already but with the BDs come out in the end of June, I plan to celebrate the release wiki another once over. I was keeping it pretty up-to-date as the show came out so as far as raw data, it's in good shape. But... it released on a one episode a month schedule. Things change over time so as I look back at some of the earlier episodes, I see things and a lack of things that make me want to kick rocks at slacking on or completely ignoring. Plus, there is a new Wiki Style Guide that didn't exist back when i was working on it. My goals for this wiki are to
My screenshot policy radically changed towards the end of this series. This series is 12 episodes and it runs for an hour. The two main characters, Togame and Shichika, appear in every episode and there is more moe awesomeness in Togame and Shichika beating people's ass brutally than I can shake a stick at... meaning there's awesome pictures of them to be had. But I weep when I goto their image galleries and see that they have less than 150 images each. Compare that to Panty & Stocking, which is only a 30 minute show yet Panty has 454 screenshots and Stocking has 361. There is a single episode of P&S that approaches Togame and Shichika's entire galleries combined. There are Katanagatari episodes that only have 1 image attached to them. My goal is to fix this and the BDs coming out gives me the perfect motivation to get off my duff and do it.
At 113 total episodes, this one is a behemoth that I'll probably be working on for at least 3 more months. I've actually been tackling it for the past few weeks now. At first it was just a show that I used as a sleep aid but eventually I got really into it and it started keeping me up. I checked the wiki and all that was there was the text that was made by the staff when the site was first created so I figured that shouldn't be. I started editing at #9 and am currently at episode #26 or #27 with the goal of getting all of them. My goals are to
Galaxy is kick ass so it's pretty fun to do but the one pain is that every episode takes place on a different planet with new characters, which make it a bit more time consuming than usual, but it's fun, which is rare for me to say about wiki editing. I started watching this because I loved Captain Harlock: The Endless Odyssey so much and this show is just as good.
Bleach is very on again off again for me. The character counts and amount of image linking required makes these decent is a real pain in the ass (you've got episodes with like 15 or 20 people in them sometimes and with my screenshot policy it takes forever) so my dedication is purely based off of how much I like the current arc/episode and feel like it needs to be done well. I'm loving the current filler arc though and have been having a fun time going stupid on that. As long as the episodes stay good, I'll be chronicling it. My goals aren't much for this one, mainly just keep doing what I'm already doing. Two things that I really want to make sure I don't screw up or laze out on are to
I think part of what helps me keep doing Bleach is 1) it rocks right now and 2) I've been more deviant than usual and maybe like every 50 - 60 screenshots of serious captioning I'll slide in something stupid like this that makes me snicker and keep going
If there are any fans of these series, pleeeeaaaaassssseee feel free to jump in. Especially Galaxy. That one is going to be a real deal behemoth.
There some mixing things I don't like where I think they did a bad job of making the vocals sound like they were said in the same location that the characters were in, but other than that it seems decent enough. I still prefer the Japanese voices but it's not terrible like Ghost Hound and some other Sentai dubs I've he. I think the Yuri VA doesn't match up all that well with what I would have expected the character to sound like in English. She seems serious in a military way but is missing the sassy bossiness that I expected her to have.
What do you all think?
I saw this on YouTube and figured it would only be right to share it with you all.
From the creator:
All 13 minutes of the completed fake Doctor Who 80s-style anime. Drawn, animated and partially voiced by myself. Some bits are good, some bits are poor, but on the whole it turned out okay, I think. Enjoy! This is old school Who, so fans of the new reboot show may be confused by the fact that the Doctor is doing martial arts and Cybermen say "excellent." Watch the classics and you'll understand. You'll also become almost instantly more handsome by watching classic Who.
This show holds a special place with me as the only ultra crass, crude, rude, and innuendo fueled show that I'm following so far this season. While not the most ultra hq and thought provoking show in the world, I love this series and wouldn't trade it for the world (unless the world was School Days 2 or one of its spiritual successors). Check out my thoughts on it in episode 3 of 7 Deep.

At the start of the Spring 2011 anime season I made a handful of first impressions videos about the anime that I planned on following. Many of these series are reaching their mid point so I decided to do a follow-up called 7 Deep that gives a quick run down on my thoughts after watching seven episodes.
Show: We, Without Wings (Ore-tachi ni Tsubasa wa Nai) via Crunchyroll
Quick Summary: A young man with split personalities lives out his life as a handful of distinct people in a city where anything is possible... especially if it's absurd, ridiculous, and involves upskirt shots.
