I'm realizing that I have NO CLUE about what's airing in Winter 2014 and no idea what to watch.

Really, it all started yesterday.  I scheduled a 10am meeting for today to turn in a video project for a local high school and ended up staying up until 1am today finishing it.  Days in advance I asked the school to email the names of students involved in the piece and as usual, I get no response from them.  So it's about 11pm and I'm hunting around Google, Facebook and Myspace (I didn't know kids still use Myspace) hunting for names and came across most of them. *Sierra Shaw... I hope you don't spell your name like the r&b/pop singer*

Anyways, that's yesterday.  Today I wake up at around 7am with a genius idea, if may say so myself, on how to do something in the project so I rush downstairs to crank it out.  Around 8am my mother calls me and asks if I'm going into the office (she's a teacher and I work for the school district as well).  I say yes, which results in me having to pick up something for her.  With my mother, if she calls once she's guaranteed to call at lest 4 more times in a 1 hour period so while I'm trying to turbo out this project, I'm getting interrupted by someone continually reverifying that I'm going to do something that I agreed to do originally.  So I'm cranking this out and fielding her calls and trying to figure out what shirt and tie I'm going to where (*just realized that I left all of the shirts I wasn't going to where soaking in my washing machine all day*).  So anyways, I get the project done and with enough time to render and burn a DVD and still manage to iron my shirt and pants.  So I rush out the door, speed through traffic and arrive at 9:59 am, expecting to go in, have the project reviewed, upload to the servers and be out by 11am.

I show up and it, "hey the videographer is here and I want to record myself doing some new intros."  That's mildly annoying but the videographer is a guy 35 years deep in the game so there's always something to learn from watching him do his thing and he doesn't mind teaching others.  Now it's 12:30 and my friend and fellow videographer shows up for his meeting.

So I'm editing in this footage and doing color correction and the videographer comes to me to drop off more footage of the station helping out with broadcast journalism clubs at schools for me to edit.  Argh, I've been doing this stuff for weeks now and I feel like if I see another child with a video camera in their hand I'm going to go insane.  Anyways, I do the edits and set my video to render.  Yay a 30 minute render time, which actually isn't that bad.  Now it's about 1:30 and I remember that the thing my Mom needed is somewhere in the huge building I'm currently in.

I walk to the front desk and ask where the place she said to pick it up from is located.  They tell me it's all the way in the back of the building on the opposite side that I'm on, but that it can't be accessed unless you physically walk outside the building.  I'm lazy that was groanable, but I do it anyways.  It actually was pretty nice outside and I found a pine cone to kick along the way.  Anyways, 5 minutes later I get there and guess what?  This isn't the place where that thing my mother wants is stored.  It actually located in the front of the building and, of course, you can't access it by walking inside.  So I end up doing another walk around, but with no pine cone this time.  Picking up the stuff wasn't bad so I go back in to the office where my video is rendering.

I show my boss the new project and everything is fine, but my friends pops his head in and says, "hey, you didn't add the station logo."  I give him the evil eye as he says this knowing that my boss hadn't noticed it and I was almost on my way out the door.  Now I have to add this logo, which will take maybe 2 minutes of editing, but because it's over the entire video, will require a complete and maximum render... a 1 hour task, according to Final Cut Pro.  So it's about 2pm now and I'm really feeling the effects of not eating anything since 2pm the day before.  As my video renders me and my friend go out for lunch, which was cool and we ended up grabbing some pizza and cracking jokes about people, which is always a good time.  So we get back to the office around 3:10 and I discover that Final Cut totally bs'd me and there's another 20 minutes left.

Anyways, that gets done, I spend another 15 minutes transferring the video (ethernet is godawful when it comes to moving multi gig files).  Oh I almost forgot, while at lunch my mother calls me and says that she can meet me at my office to pick up the files.  This may trigger something in you and it should as my office is the exact same building where the thing she needed picked up was located.  Don't ask.  That's her.  One good thing though is that she was willing to meet me where I had lunch at so it wasn't a pain.

The time now?  About 4pm.  4pm for a day where I expected to come in at 10 and be out the door by 11 to sit on my bum and play video games.  As a nice end cap though, my friend ended up coming over and we played video games for hours (Super Street Fighter 4 and Def Jam Rapstar) and ended up watching the Social Network, which he'd never seen.

All in all this ended being a day filled with annoyances and pains in the ass that were usually matched with something relaxing or enjoyable.  The constant disappointment ended up making all of the good stuff seem way better, hence "best worst day ever."  Oh, I also saw that Kanokon comes out this month and is only like $23 on Amazon.  That was a nice surprise out of the blue as well.

Taking an idea from my fellow Vicer   JJOR64  and his   Super Duper Mini Reviews  , I decided to try my hand at chronicling the anime that I watch throughout the week with a small write up.  These won't really be a review of the episode though, just a super short summary and things that I liked or disliked and special recognitions at the end.

This week I rediscovered the gamer in me and finally unlazified myself to get back into grinding out video projects.  As a result, my anime watching plummeted.

WARNING SPOILERS BELOW

Thursday (2/24)

Naruto Shippuden  #200

Summary:  Sasuke closes in on Danzo as the Five Kage Summit begins.
Pros
  • Naruto’s plan was a complete failure and he got some much needed  real talk  from the Raikage.
  • Seeing all the Kage bickering and pointing fingers was amusing.
Cons
  • This isn’t a legit complaint but I always feel that these episodes would be so much better if I didn’t know what was happening years before it takes place.

Put a bunch of ninjas in a room and all hell breaks loose.
Put a bunch of ninjas in a room and all hell breaks loose.

Bleach  #310
Summary:  Everyone deals with the aftermath of Aizen’s attack.
Pros
  • This was a nice end cap to the arc.
  • I’m glad to see that some people training hard.  After getting run through by the Espada and Aizen some of these guys need to get exponentially better in order to really be able to protect Soul Society.
  • Aizen acting an ass at his trial was a riot.
Cons
  • Ichigo talking about Aizen’s sword (lol) for 2 minutes was the most character development they ever gave Aizen.

Dragon Crisis #7

Summary:  Ryuji and Ai fight their way out of Furumori’s compound.
Pros
  • Ryuji did a cool looking spin attack against Furumori.
  • I like dark characters and Furumori fits the bill.
Cons
  • This was easily the most lackluster fight so far, which really makes the generic characters and meh storytelling stand out.
  • An extreme lack of moe and service didn’t help either.
  • When I first got into anime, everyone having a super tragic past felt new and different.  Now it’s been ran into the ground so much that it makes me groan.
  • Ai might not be in the show anymore.
  • I don’t think choir boys in the chastity club are as pious as anime makes the typical male Japanese teenager out to be.
Random
  • Part of me wanted Ryuji to pull and Gantz and think, “hell yeah, if you live with me there’s a way higher chance of us f***ing,” when Ai read his mind.
This episode needed more violence or cute stuff like this.

Rio - Rainbow Gate! #7

Summary:  Rio wins a laser rifle Gate battle against a sniper but her victory is short lived as she finds herself quickly forced into another match.
Pros
  • I LOL’d  at the “intense psychological stress,” caused by Gate battles.  These things are always super goofy stuff like bowling, going on a water slide and playing video games.
  • Just when I think they can’t top possibly top themselves in absurdity, this show always manages to up the ante.
  • As usual, more fanservice than anyone could shake any number of sticks at with the best being a tentacle scene and Rina and Rio smashing boobs in a hot tub.
  • There was some drama thrown in that I wasn’t expecting but was executed better than I would have thought possible.
Cons
  • This episode wasn’t anime perfection, but for Rio it didn’t really have any cons that I can think of.

Mitsudomoe 2 #7

Summary:  Everyone dresses up as Santa to give Ryuuta his presents, Yabecchi gets sick and has to call in a substitute, and the entire class decides to play a game of human curling, amongst other things.
Pros
  • Miyashita got her own segment and she’s one of my favorite side characters.
  • A lot of the side characters had large roles in this episode.
  • Seeing Chiba in panties was one of the most disturbing things I’ve seen in a good minute.
  • The pool segment ending in complete tragedy brought a smile to my face.
Cons
  • The show still seems to be confused about what season it is.
  • Only one episode left :(

In honor of Birthday Day Every Month and in an attempt to get my spending habits a little more in check, I only purchase anime/manga on the 22nd of every month.  This February was my actual birthday and I picked up a lot of personally notable things from importing and stateside.  To start off...

Naruto Uncut (Season 1 vol 1, Season 2 vol 1 & 2, and Season 3 vol 1)

Naruto Uncut
Naruto Uncut
I remember telling myself that I wasn't going to pick up anymore Naruto sets until I got my Bleach collection up to snuff.  That all went out the window when I woke up on the 22nd, checked my Amazon cart and saw that they were selling these sets for $14-$19 each.  With this, I now own every canon Naruto episode and I feel like my Naruto collection accurately reflects my fandom for the show.  I also feel like I can safely say that, barring a miracle sale of Shippuden boxes, I won't be purchasing any more Naruto stuff until my Bleach collection actually looks like I like Bleach.

Katanagatari vol 11

Katanagatari vol 11 (Outside)
Katanagatari vol 11 (Outside)

Katanagatari vol 11 (Inside)
Katanagatari vol 11 (Inside)
This and the following episode are my favorites of the series and the ones that really pushed me over the tipping point of not only buying the series, but finally getting into importing anime.  The packaging and bonus items were pretty much the same as usual (dangerously hard cardboard, 4-panel brochure, character and character CD) but this one came with two Kabuto cards: Houou Maniwa and Emonzaemon Souda.  It'll be interesting to see how many cards they can throw into the final volume, which could potentially be a crap ton since

Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt vol 3

Panty & Stocking vol 3 (Outside)
Panty & Stocking vol 3 (Outside)

Panty & Stocking vol 3 (Inside)
Panty & Stocking vol 3 (Inside)
This is my first purchase for the series and contains my 2nd favorite episode: Les Diaboliques.  The cover is pretty nice with a shot of Scanty and the actual Blu-ray has a more risque version of the image.  The bonus items included are a DVD that I can't watch (boo hiss @ region locking and not putting this on the BD) with behind the scenes footage of the sentai-esque explosions and something else, some stickers of Scanty and her accessories and a pretty nice mini-magazine that has episode descriptions, character write-ups and a bunch of fanservice pics of Scanty and Kneesocks with the words, "for your happy time... we are coming."  Classy.  The paper stock on the magazine is pretty thick and the layout reminds me of a tabloid combined with US Weekly.  One bad thing though is that the magazine can't actually fit inside the BD case so I'm not sure how exactly I'm going to keep it in good condition or not misplace it.

Next Month

Next month is going to force me to super grind at work in order to not go broke buying anime.  US releases with Working!!, xxxHOLiC in a super cheap SAVE set, and Evangelion 2.22 all feel like must grabs and there's still some back log titles that I might pick up depending on what sales are going on or how the money flows.  For imports, I plan on getting back in on School Days, finishing up Katanagatari and grabbing the next PaSwG set, which has my favorite episode: 1 Angry Ghost.

I caught a pretty rough cold this week which made my eyes too sore to read, so this week was pretty light on anime watching.  When I got better, I ended up playing   Civilization 5  and lost two days in that.

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Season 2 #10

Summary:  The school festival is coming up and Haruhi decides that the SOS Brigade should make a movie

Pros
  • I got more laughs from this episode than any of the other ones in Season 2 and it reminded me of what I enjoyed when I watched the first season.
  • If this movie turns out as awesomely terrible as the one from last season this should be pretty good.
Cons
  • The more I watch the more I start to realize that Haruhi is kinda an arrogant self-righteous bitch, which makes her slightly less funny.

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Season 2 #11

Summary:  The SOS Brigade starts filming their movie.

Pros
  • The crowd gathering around the SOS while they were filming were saying and doing a lot of things that made me laugh.
  • Like episode #10 I’m reminded of what I enjoyed about the series when I first saw it years ago, but....
Cons
  • … every scene is giving me deja vu from season 1 and I feel like I’ve seen this exact episode and these exact jokes years ago.

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Season 2 #12
Summary:  During the SOS’ film shoot, an unexpected occurence takes place which causes everyone to worry.

Pros
  • Haruhi shot up an old man at a temple with a BB gun, which I found hilarious
  • I stopped bitching about another possible Endless 8 and could enjoy this a lot more.
  • Asahina actually shooting lasers from her eye was pretty cool.
  • Someone finally put Haruhi in her place a little bit.
Cons
  • I can’t think of anything.
Random
  • The show is lighthearted, but I like to think that off camera everyone is struggling with their existence and are emotional train wrecks, possibly even near suicidal.

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Season 2 #13

Summary:  Kyon and Haruhi have a falling out over the direction that the movie is going

Pros
  • There were a lot of dark things in this episode (drugging, bullying, near domestic violence) that made it interesting for me.
  • There’s a shot of a drunk Asahina on her knees reaching up to Kyon’s waste... I’m sure this was used in many a blog picture.
  • Haruhi getting put in her place is always good to see
Cons
  • Shaking my head at Kyon doing a hardcore cock block of the esper guy.
  • Kyon being forced to apologize or possibly face banishment from reality was a bummer.
Random
  • I’ve completely convinced myself that everyone one is on the verge of a complete mental and emotional breakdown.  Asahina cries herself to sleep at night, Koizumi smiles hide a troubled and tortured soul, and Nagato has had to kill her emotions or else she’d crack under the stress that Haruhi puts her through.

Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Season 2 #14
Summary:  The SOS Brigade finishes their film and everything returns to “normal.”

Pros
  • Everything about the talking cat was great, from his philosophical conversation to the fact that was constantly sliding off of Nagato’s shoulder the entire time.
  • They didn’t last long, but there were a couple of scenes with some pretty slick animation.
  • I felt like my feelings about how everyone is behind the scenes was kinda sorta a little bit confirmed.
Cons
  • This episode didn’t really feel like a final episode to me.

Monday

Dragonball Kai #93

Summary:  Gohan unlocks his full potential and takes on Cell and his Cell Jrs.

Pros
  • A lot of people got their heads punched off or kicked in half
  • The new animation blended in more seamlessly than it usually does
Cons
  • I thought the Cell Jr. combat went on for a bit long, but that’s a minor quibble.

Tuesday

Bleach #309

Summary:  Aizen’s battle against Ichigo reaches its conclusion.

Pros
  • Lots of slick animation
  • Good music
  • Ichigo has a decent battle against Tensa Zangetsu
Cons
  • Tensa starts crying in the middle of the episode and drops a cheesy “touching” line
  • Aizen Sousuke, easily my favorite bad guy in any medium, is no more.
Random
  • Aizen’s blood explosion transformation and all of the crosses at the end reminded me of Evangelion 2.0.

All that's missing is a bunch of crosses...

No wait, here they are.
No wait, here they are.

Dragon Crisis! #6

Summary:  Ryuji, Rose and Eriko attend a Society gala where they meet Ai, a Lost Precious thief.

Pros
  • A well animated action sequence
  • The introduction of a character who may be able to give Kai a run for her money when it comes to combat.
  • There are tons of super cute Ai shots in this episode.
  • Rose’s floating and jealousy are adorable.
Cons
  • A new character is introduced and there is a kidnapping and theft... again.  They’re starting to loop story arcs like Bleach canon.

Thursday

Naruto Shippuden #199

Summary:  The Five Kages head out for their summit.

Pros
  • Seeing Konahamaru & Naruto interact always brings a smile to my face.
  • More Danzo = more better
  • Seeing the Raikage jump out of his window made me lol.
Cons
  • Danzo’s sharringan reveal wasn’t as cool as it seemed in the manga.
  • Actually hearing Chojuro talk makes him come off as even more of a loser than just seeing his actions and a text bubble.
  • Outside of Danzo, this whole episode was super goofy and jokey like One Piece.

Star Driver #1

Pros
  • Really, really, really good animation
  • There’s a high level of ridiculousness
  • Somebody did a teleport punch that was cool
Cons
  • The character designs look straight out of some crappy  collect stuff and fight with it  kids show like Yu-Gi-Oh, Beyblade and a billion others, with clothing design by Colonel Zechs from Gundam.
  • It’s the type of cute that comes off as annoying to me.
  • The pink haired girl at the chalk board annoys me and I think she’ll be a major side character.
  • I hate the mech design.
  • I don’t like any of the characters, not even the bad guys... and I always like bad guys.
Random
  • I can usually tell whether I’m going to take a show seriously or not after an episode or at least how I feel about it, but this one left me puzzled on both accounts.

Awards and Recognitions

Suspect Zero

I'm sure his stylist told him that this was high fashion, but this is one of the most flaming outfits I've seen in a while.  His mech is all shades of flamboyant as well.

Taking an idea from one of my fellow Vicers ( JJOR64) and his Super Duper Mini Reviews, I decided to try my hand at chronicling the anime that I watch throughout the week with a small write up.  These won't really be a review of the episode though, just a super short summary and things that I liked or disliked and special recognitions at the end.  This week saw me being especially lazy when it came to working from home so my anime watching was close to double what it normally was.

WARNING: SPOILERS BELOW

Monday

Dragonball Kai #92

Summary:  Cell releases his Cell Jrs and Gohan finally realizes that Cell can't be reasoned with and combat is the only thing that's going to put an end to this.

Pros
  • The Cell Jrs had some slick looking fights and all of the high speed combat was sharp and crisp rather than being blurred, which is what they usually do to the new animation if it's in a fight.
  • I'm also glad that it ended with Gohan powering up so next week should have some nice pwnage to look forward.

Cons
  • Part of me still wonders why it took Gohan so long to realize he should actually fight Cell seriously.

Dragon Crisis! #5

Summary:  Seven Tails continues its attempts at taking Ice Rage from George, but things take an unexpected turn when it turns out to be a Cursed Precious.

Pros
  • Nice animation on a decently lengthy battle
  • Rose did more Kugimiya Tsundere faces
  • Kai makes a return
  • More Eriko and Maruga fan service and Rose being angrier than usual led to her being more moe than usual

Cons
  • Kai didn't have any action scenes
  • Rose still hasn't said, "Urusei! Urusei! Urusei!"

Ahh, if that's not the cutest temper tantrum ever...
Ahh, if that's not the cutest temper tantrum ever...

Bleach #308

Summary:  Having beaten Gin, Aizen returns his attention to Ichigo's friends but is stopped in his tracks when Ichigo returns from his training.

Pros
  • In the manga this fight seemed like it was almost a one-hit ko, but I like how it's taken up half an episode with most of it being fighting, pwnage and smack talk.
  • I also loved that it actually had sword fighting, which is feel is too much of a rarity in Bleach.
  • There was some slick animation as well and some of my favorite fight music got played.
  • It's always fun to see someone get Aizened after talking a lot of crap.

Cons
  • Still not as insane and intense as the swordfighting in the Kouga vs Byakuya and Hisagi vs Findor fights, which is a shame considering that this should be the most amazing fight in the series and is the grand finale for Aizen.
  • It’s a shame that Bleach removed so much sword fighting that 8 seconds of it feels like an epically long battle.
  • I love bad guys and nothing burns worse than revealing that a bad guy was actually a good guy all along.
  • Gin deserves more than a one minute origin story.

I've been waiting for 247 episodes to see this.. it could have lasted more than 8 seconds.
I've been waiting for 247 episodes to see this.. it could have lasted more than 8 seconds.

Rio - Rainbow Gate! #6

Summary:  A rival casino owner instigates a Gate Battle between Rio and Jack, a young child who comes from a long line of telekinetic bomb diffusers.

Pros
  • Laughing at how absurd things get in this show is a major reason why I watch it and this episode certainly delivered on that with Jack's background story (really, telekinetic bomb diffusers?) and the Gate battle being a virtual reality interstellar pinball video game.
  • Mint and Jack on screen together was like an amazing galaxy busting moe bomb detonating
  • As usual, they crammed in more fanservice than I can shake a stick at, with the silliest being the gem that follows the cons.

Cons
  • I've gotten over it, but I'm always a little bit upset that the battles aren't like Saki where they actually used real world strategies to win their mahjong matches.
  • Rio is a card dealer and it's a rarity for a battle to even involve a card game and not be one purely by luck.

Wandering Son #3 Summary:  All of the cross dressers are dealing with the fact that they're going through puberty and that their changing bodies will make believable cross dressing more difficult.  Nitori's friendship with Chiba seems to be rebuilding itself when both of them are assigned to write a gender-bender play.

Pros
  • I like the J.C. Staff-esque visuals as always.
  • Slice-of-life is one of my favorite genres and this one slices into the lives of characters that intrigue me.
  • It’s good to see that Chiba is being less of a bitch these days.

Cons
  • Nothing blew me away but this episode didn't have anything I particularly disliked either.

Wandering Son #4

Summary:  Nitori and Chiba continue to work on the school play and both of them confess to the people they love, to varying degrees of understanding and success.

Pros
  • Nitori is an interesting character and his queerly heterosexual attraction to Takatsuki is certainly something I haven't seen before, which get the thumbs up from me.
  • Everyone manned up and confessed before the series came to a close, which I always like to see.

Cons
  • Like #3, I didn't really have any complaints about this episode.

Nothing in this picture is quite as it seems.
Nothing in this picture is quite as it seems.

Naruto Shippuden #197

Summary:  In the wake of Lady Tsunade's injuries, Danzo is appointed as the new Hokage.  Meanwhile, ninjas from the Hidden Cloud arrive to Konoha seeking information about Sasuke.

Pros
  • I enjoyed the filler arc but I'm glad we're back to canon.
  • A return to the current timeline also means the return of Shippuden music, which I've missed.
  • Team Samui and Team 7's introduction involved some fist-to-face, which is always fun to watch.
  • Danzo is an interesting villain.
  • Konoha’s it's totally ok to let psychotic and murderous rogue ninjas run around free and unrestrained policy is finally coming to a close.
  • There was a lot of plot points being hit upon in this episode.

Cons
  • Having Shippuden imitate the old series for so long and then switching back to its own style really drives home the huge tonal differences between the shows and it took me two episodes to really get back into the swing of things.

Shippuden goes back to being Shippuden
Shippuden goes back to being Shippuden

Naruto Shippuden #198

Summary:  After his encounter with Team Samui, Naruto decides to visit the Raikage in order to convince him that Sasuke should be forgiven.

Pros
  • This is the first time where I could see Naruto as having real deal traits that a Hokage should have and not just traits of a really powerful warrior.
  • The score really adds a lot to this episode.
  • Every canon episode takes me one step closer to Sasuke's Carnage Fiesta against the Kages.
  • I've been awaiting non-fan art color pictures for some of these characters for a while now and I finally got them.

Cons
  • Right as Naruto displays Hokage traits he goes back to idiot naive kid and says he wants to ask the Raikage to forgive Sasuke.
  • Nothing really stood out as noticeably bad, but there wasn’t anything noticeably good either.

Friday

Freezing #1

Summary:  A female warrior, referred to as Pandoras , named Satellizer is participating in a mock battle against her fellow classmates when she’s interrupted by Kazuya, a young boy who mistakes her for his dead sister.

Pros
  • There’s an insane level of violence and blood shed
  • A lot of merciless and ruthless things take place.
  • Claymores/Shikabane-himes/My-Himes fighting Angels from Evangelion is kinda interesting.

Cons
  • The fact that you could perfectly describe this solely by using characters and concepts from other shows is a let down.
  • Technobabble is all over the place.
  • Fanservice that’s simultaneously bloody, gory and ultra ecchi isn’t really my cup of tea.
  • A guy falls face first into boobs... the creativity knows no bounds.
  • I feel like I can smell the entire story and every twist from a mile away.
  • I’m watching on Hulu and not only is the ecchi stuff overly censored (they won’t even show a bra strap), the violence is covered up as well.

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Season 2 #2

Summary:  Haruhi and her friends spend the last two weeks of summer doing a bunch of events

Pros
  • When this first came out I remember being upset that it wasn’t as good as I remember S1 being but this time I enjoyed it enough to finish the episode and watch another.
  • A few of the things Kyon said made me chuckle

Cons
  • I still don’t enjoy this as much as I remember enjoying the first season

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Season 2 #3

Summary:  Haruhi and her friends spend the last two week of summer doing a bunch of events but after a short while, Nagato points out that they’re stuck in a time loop and have been repeating it for 500+ years worth of time.

Pros
  • I’m actually excited to see what this Endless Eight talk is all about and whether it’s anime fans blowing stuff totally out of proportion or if it really is the worst thing ever created in any entertainment medium ever.
  • I enjoyed the repeated events more the second time around.
  • I’m a sucker for anything involving time travel and things of that nature so the concept of Endless 8 is interesting.
  • I don’t know if it’s good enough or I’m bored enough, but I’m continuing on to 3 episodes in one day.

Cons
  • Just like the last time Haruhi was doing some cosmically destructive crap, Kyon is obviously going to have to come on to her in order to set the space-time continuum back in order... please don’t make it take 6 or 7 more episodes before he can recognize this.
  • I forget his name but I wanted to kick a brick barefoot when the esper suggested Kyon do something like that and Kyon refused to.
  • I’m hoping for a Dave Chapelle-esque “F*** yo’ list” scene that I know is never going to happen under any circumstances.

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Season 2 #4

Summary: see above

Pros
  • I get minor pleasure from seeing what outfits everyone will wear and what mask Nagato will buy.
  • Every time I watch I feel like I pick up some new dialog bit that’s hinting to everyone that they need to radically switch things up.
  • While typing this I’m listening to a song and the lyric, “you’ve tried everything but you won’t give up,” just played.  That’s disturbingly appropriate.
  • I think I must be a masochist and on some subconscious level watching this appeals to my desire to cause myself mental anguish.
  • Every episode my theory on what will fix this changes and I kinda enjoy that.  Now I’m convinced that Kyon either has to make a move on her or everyone is gonna have to stop dickriding her and challenge some of her plans.

Cons
  • WHAT THE F***... damn near 600 years of time have passed and nobody is like, “I think we need to make a new list.”  These people aren’t even trying to rock the boat.  Even if all anyone can think of is calling her on the 31st, they could at least try that.
  • I was about 10 minutes late for Fringe so I watched this instead.  I regret that decision.
  • Kyon is quickly becoming the embodiment of everything I hate about male leads in anime.
  • For some reason watching this makes me upset that there’s been no announcement of a season 2 for Paniponi Dash.
  • They really should have made this Endless 4

Hmm, after giving this a lot of thought I decided to do something that I haven’t done since Bleach in 2005:  I’m skipping past episodes I haven’t seen.

Watching these episodes makes me feel like this.

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Season 2 #9

Summary: After repeating the same two weeks for 15,000+ times and not realizing that doing the same things will get the same results, Kyon finally steps up and decides to try something different in hopes that it will get different results.

Pros
  • Endless 8 is over
  • Waking up and watching cartoons on a Saturday morning reminds me of being a kid again.
Cons
  • What a group of idiots

Mitsudomoe 2 #6

Summary:  It's the holidays (New Year's, Valentine's Day and April Fools Day) and the girls into shenanigans at home and at school.

Pros
  • All of the parents at the conference were pretty funny and the shot of Chiba practicing his moves was great.
  • The piss snowballs were gross but not too gross.
  • As usual, Chiba delivers anytime he's on screen.
  • Hitoha punching Mitsuba in the neck made me lol
  • There's a super cute shot of Hitoha with a bandage on her nose
 Cons
  • It feels like they randomly put these segments in episodes with no real consideration for timing, especially holiday ones that are long past (New Year's) or far away (April Fool's).

Her Majesty's Secret Service

Rio Rainbow Gate's through the boob shot takes this for me this week.  Shots of large breast are cliche, camera angles through the breast are passe, but the combination of both certainly deserves some recognition.  I also like how they chopped off part of someone's head in full recognition of what the audience wants to see.  Hint: it's not her forehead.
 Ahhhhhh

Surprisingly Moe Moment

When I see Rose or Mint Clark, I expect for pretty much every shot to be moe.  That's a given.  But you know what, I'm going to give this to the Cell Jrs.  I watch Dragonball Kai to see people get their ass handed to them weak after weak, but the absolute adorableness of these guys deserves a special nod for cuteness when I was least expecting it.

"Damn Homie, In High School You Was the Man Homie... The F*** happened to you?"

This was a close one.  Sakura Haruno showed us once again that her akatsuki fighting abilities were a fluke by immediately eating a drop kick to the face during this week's Naruto Shippuden.  How she stays on the team is anyone guess, but I'd be remiss if I didn't give this to Sousuke Aizen, the king of pwnage, arrogance and smack talk.
