sickVisionz (Level 24)

I'm realizing that I have NO CLUE about what's airing in Winter 2014 and no idea what to watch.

Chaos;Head was never my cup of the tea so when I heard that a sequel was coming, it never really entered my radar.  News that White Fox, the animation studio behind Katanagatari, was going to be working got me slightly intrigued but it took a day of utter and complete boredom combined with a new camera to get me to take the plunge.  Here are my thoughts on episode one.  Agree or disagree, let me know what you guys think about it in the comments!

Show: Steins;Gate via Crunchyroll
Quick Summary: From Crunchyroll: "Steins; Gate follows an eclectic group of individuals who have the ability to send text messages to the past."
Pros: Interesting characters and an intricate storyline.
Cons: None worth mentioning so far.
Verdict So Far: Looks like another great series from White Fox

HanaSaku Iroha was one the many shows that I was looking forward to this season and when Crunchyroll announced they would be simulcasting it, I was pretty excited.  Would it be the show I'd hoped for, would it be something else but still enjoyable, or would it completely let me down?  Well, I've watched the first episode of it and decided to do another video bog about it.  Agree or disagree, let me know what you guys think about it in the comments!

Show: HanaSaku Iroha via Crunchyroll
Quick Summary: A 16-year old girl named Ohana moves in to an inn owned by her grandmother.  While there, she works and meets new people and makes new friends.
Pros: The characters make for an interesting watch and the creators/writes have done a good job and blending multiple genres together.
Cons: You've seen these archetypes before.
Verdict So Far: I wholly enjoyed it and can't wait to see where it goes from here!

Last night I watched the first episode of My Ordinary Life (Nichijou), one of my most aniticipated shows from the Spring 2011 line-up, and I figured I do a little video about it.  Agree or disagree, let me know what you all think in the comments!

Pros

  • The art style of the show is bright, colorful, cute and moe.
  • The animation is super fluid and gets amazing on regular basis.
  •  The music is surprisingly good music for a comedy.

Cons

  • The humor is inconsistent throughout the episode.
  • Sometimes moe and animation are used to carry scenes.

Overall

Despite me not laughing at all for 2/3 of the episode, the show made up for it in the last 1/3 and left me interested in the series and wanting more.

Taking an idea from my fellow Vicer JJOR64 and his Super Duper Mini Reviews , I decided to try my hand at chronicling the anime that I watch throughout the week with a small write up.  These won't really be a review of the episode though, just a super short summary and things that I liked or disliked and special recognitions at the end.

Overview

A new season kicked off this week.  While my anime watching is still pretty light overall, I did make time to check out one new show: Nichijo.

WARNING SPOILERS BELOW

Thursday (3/24)

Naruto Shippuden 204

Summary

Sasuke faces off against the Tsuchikage and Mizukage.

Pros
  • Interesting fights
  • A lot of jutsu usage from characters who hadn’t done anything yet.
  • Some slick animation here and there

Cons
  • The slick animation was Bleach-like where it only lasted for a couple of seconds here and there.

Dragon Crisis #10

Summary

Rose meets Sapphie, a Blue Dragon who convinces her to perform a special Dragon ritual with Ryuji.

Pros
  • This episode was cuter and funnier than usual.
  • Sapphie’s introduction was an epic fail in all the right ways.
  • Sapphie adds a nice element to cast and I’m glad that she doesn’t seem like a potential love interest for Ryuuji.
  • Kai’s back and had more screentime than ever.

Cons
  • Ai could have done a little more.
  • I’m not sure how I feel about Onyx coming back rather than someone new.

Tuesday

Dragon Crisis! #11

Summary

As the side effects of Rose and Ryuji’s ritual get worse and worse, Ryuji is faced with a decision about his relationship with Rose.

Pros
  • The full cast showed up.

Cons
  • It wasn’t as bad as the second Ai episode, but this one was mediocre and didn’t really deliver on anything that I watch the series for.
  • More standard cliche's executed in standard to substandard ways than I can shake a stick at

Thursday

Naruto Shippuden #205

Summary

Madara arrives at the Five Kage summit and reveals his plan to the Kages.

Pros
  • This was more interesting than it was in the manga
  • All of the jinchuriki were featured, so they can finally be attached to episodes in the wiki

Cons
  • It might be the tsunami’s fault, but this was easily one of the shoddiest episodes I’ve seen in terms of animation.  It harkens became to the start of Shippudden and the mirror matches that looked like animated gifs being slid across the screen

Sunday

Nichijo - My Ordinary Life #1

Summary

It’s the first day of high school and all of the students are getting ready for the new year.

Pros
  • The art style is cute and colorful
  • There’s some great animation on a regular basis
  • The character’s extreme reaction panels are funny
  • The last ⅔ of the show were hilarious

Cons
  • I didn’t find anything laugh out loud funny until the final ⅓.
  • The show slides by on cuteness more than comedy a bit often.

Random
  • Solid first episode.  Not amazing all throughout, but I think it did a good job setting up the type of show it will be.

This was my favorite part of the episode.

I'm always interested in know what other people have in their anime stash.  Seeing what others are super into can put you on to titles you may have overlooked or let you know there's other fans out there.  Plus it's just fun to see what everyone has!  If you've got pics or vids, post em up!

I'll kick it off.  I never really get to do videos that I'm interested in at work, so doing these anime ones has been fun.  After getting some positive feedback on my first vid earlier this week, I decided to do another one.  This time I just went through my collection:
