Awesome anime that flies under-the-radar

No big names here. I think these shows are gems but I don't hear many people ever mentioning them. All of them aren't 10/10 best anime ever but I'd say they're all good and definitely worth a watch. The list is completed in no particular order.

*Cr* = Available on Crunchyroll

*Hl* = Available on Hulu

*Im* = Import has English subtitles

*Us* = Released in the US

1. Kaiba

This series has a very unique and childlike art style the is contrasted by the serious tones of the story and setting. Definitely check this out if you're looking for a series that offers something unique and adult.

2. Himitsu: Top Secret ~The Revelation~

While the animation is generally shoddy at best, this episodic series has some very interesting stories to tell. The premise is an interesting for sci-fi nuts but outside of that the series is very grounded in reality. I think fans of police dramas will find a lot to love about this one.

3. Real Drive

I don't know how this one gets looked over. It's created by the man responsible for Ghost in the Shell and Eden of the East so you'd think it'd be well known regardless of quality, but I don't see people talking about this series... which is a shame because it's amazing and one of his better works. It combines the high technology of GitS but keeps the light-heartedness of Eden of the East. I think it's a must watch for sci-fi fans looking for something different than the usual action series.

4. Hyakko

Taking a break from all the sci-fi and serious shows, this series is pure fluff but it's pretty great. If you like Haruhi, K-on, or any of those series about moe school girls getting into crazy antics, this show is delivers that in spades on a regular basis and at a quality level that competes with the best of them. Sometimes it even trumps them. *Cr*

5. Time of Eve

I think this one may be a bit more well known than others on this list, but it really deserves the attention. It's a serious non-action sci-fi series about cyborgs and "human" rights that I found myself wrapped up in almost immediately. *Cr* *Im*

6. Shigofumi: Letters from the Departed

As one of the only titles on this list with a physical release in the US, this one might have a large but silent fanbase. If so, guys you need to speak up. The series revolves around death and the impact it can have on those who are close to the one who died. It's dramatic without being overly melodramatic and I fell in love with it. *Us*

7. Library Wars

I think this series stays continually relevant in a day and age where media censorship seems to be a hot button issue. This series is a cute and comical but can be appropriately serious when necessary and strikes a good balance between having an important message and having fun.

8. The Book of Bantorra

This action based series has a nice mix of melodrama, mild romance and drama. It's one of the few series that is legitimately a jack of all trades and actually pretty darn good at all of them as well. If you're looking for an action series that's got more depth than your standard shonen fare, this is one to look for.

9. Paniponi Dash

Easily the most popular show on this list, PPD is great. It's the funniest anime I've ever seen by leaps and bounds. It's insane, things rarely make any type of sense, and the general idea seems to be that anything is ok as long as it gets a laugh out of people. Lucky Star, Hayate the Combat Butler and others get mentioned all of the time but I think this is one that should be up there with those, if not above them. *Us* *Hl*

10. Erin

I can't say enough good things about this series. The art style is very pastel and cute, but the show is deadly serious. Essentially the coming of age story of a gifted young girl in three states of her childhood (elementary, middle and high school age), Erin is a series that really maximizes it's 50-episode run with an emphasis on constant character development. I'd recommend this to anyone looking for a touching drama or slice-of-life tale. *Cr*

Find Beck: Mongolian Chop Squad's dub, watch it, love it, and add it to this list.
