Hello, my fellow
AnimeVice lovers, and I would like to welcome you all to this my second full-fledged blog review of a anime series. For this review, I will be discussing the
hit ecchi-anime Sora no Otoshimono (2009). Like in my previous review (
Kampfer), I will try to keep this as spoiler-free as possible, but any potential spoilers that might appear in this review will once again be hidden away behind the "
Spoiler Warning" banner. In this first part of my review, I will explore the plot and story that the show is based on, give detailed information regarding the many characters that make appearences, and help you better understand this wonderful show. Enjoy!

Sora no Otoshimono: A Ecchi Anime Done Right
1. The Plot (Beginning)
The main plot of
Sora no Otoshimono primarily revolves around the main protagonist
Tomoki Sakurai, a teenage boy who currently lives in the small city of
Sorami along with his childhood friend
Sohara Mituski. He lives alone in his parents old house on the outskirts of town, and only wishes to enjoy a life full of peace and quiet. Every night since he was young,
Tomoki has had a recurring dream in which he is upon a grassy hillside, and a mysterious girl with wings that he loves is being taken away from him by the sky. She warns him that "the sky has me", tells him to "come and save me", and that he will lose his angel if he is not careful. This dream leaves
Tomoki confused and crying when he wakes from the dream, for he feels as if he is losing something important to his existence. Worried about his reoccuring dream after seeing him wake up crying after class is over,
Sohara decides that they will tell the leader of The New World Club at their school about his dreams.
Eishiro Sugata, the esteemed leader of the "The New World Club" from his school, declares that Tomoki's dreams are possibly related to a strange phenomenon that seems to be occurring in the atmosphere over Earth. His theory on Tomoki's dream is that they are a link to a "new world", and that it might be related to the black orb that is traveling in the atmosphere. He decides to invites the two of them to join him on a late night scientific exploration the following night, when the black mass should travel over the town. However, Eishiro is too busy attending to matters with Mikako Satsukitane, the class President of the Student Council, and with Sohara backing out of the trip, Tomoki ends up going alone to watch the unnatural spectical in the sky. Around midnight, Tomoki recieves a desperate phone call from Eishiro, warning him to get the hell out of the area, due to the mysterious object in the sky moving directly over the hillside on which he stands. As he looks up to see the massive black object floating in the sky above him, a golden orb of light emerges from the shadowy mass and slams into the ground before him, knocking him off of his feet and slamming him down onto his back. Slightly dazed from the impact, Tomoki quickly sits up and is surprised to find a large crater where he was standing only moments before. Crawling to the edge of the crater, he looks down into the still-smoldering pit and is shocked to discover a human lying at the bottom, a unconscious girl with large, pink wings that emerge from her back. Taken aback by this strange discovery, Tomoki decides that the current situation will bring him nothing but trouble, so he attempts to flee from the scene, but is almost crushed after massive stone pillars start slamming down into the hillside around him. Now concerned about the safety of the unconscious angel, he turns around and returns to the crater, finding that one of the stone pillars had almost crushed the poor angel. Acting fast, he picks her up and struggles to carry her up and out of the crater.
After successfully removing her from the crater, Tomoki looks up to find themselves in the path of another falling pillar, with almost no time to get out of the way before getting killed. As he closes his eyes and prepares for his untimely demise, the angel who he has supported on his shoulders awakens and in a shower of pink feathers, carries them away from their deaths. As they slowly make their way back to the ground, the angel begins the process of imprinting upon Tomoki, the chain that is attached to the collar on her neck attaching itself to his right hand as they safely land back down on the ground. She tells him that she is a Pet-Type Angeloid, that he is her new master, and that she is here to fulfill his every wish and desire. Stunned by this revelation, Tomoki realizes that this might just mean the end of the peaceful and quiet lifestyle that he used to enjoy is now over.

Being saved from suffering a horrendous death is pretty swell, but Tomoki never imagined being saved by a angel...
Thus starts the wild, wacky adventures of
Tomoki Sakurai as he tries to figure out why these series of events have taken place, and how he must deal with the changes that now affect his everyday life.
The plot of
Sora no Otoshimono can be confusing at times, mainly due to the story jumping around somewhat randomly as the show progresses. Fans of the ecchi genre will greatly enjoy this show, but might be put slightly off by the inconsistency of the story.
Plot: 3.75 Stars out of 5 Possible Stars. 2. Main/Supporting Characters (Mainly Spoiler-free)
During the course of his adventures,
Tomoki befriends several different people that each end up playing a part in the overall story. Listed below are the supporting characters, other
Angeloids, and beings that
Tomoki comes across during his wild adventures in
Sora no Otoshimono.

Tomoki Sakurai
1. Tomoki Sakurai: A quiet, teenage boy who currently attends school in the small city of
Sorami,
Tomoki is the main protagonist of
Sora no Otoshimono. He lives alone in his parent's old home on the outskirts of town across the street from childhood friend
Sohara Mitsuki; preferring to live a live full of peace and quiet (as his motto goes: Peace and Quiet is Best). His mostly peaceful life, however, is brought to a shattering end after he is saved from certain death by
Pet-Class Angeloid Ikaros, who imprints herself to him with a magical chain and declares him her new master. Even though
Tomoki has a extremely perverted side (such as using one of the many peepholes that he has made in order to see girls changing or stashing his collection of pornography in his closet), he is a mostly kind and sincere person, who deeply cares for those around him.

Sohara Mitsuki
2. Sohara Mitsuki: The teenage childhood friend of
Tomoki Sakurai, Sohara often wakes him up every morning before they both head to high school (because she lives across the street in her mother's house). She experienced a sickly childhood when she was young, thus resulting in her not having very many friends to play with while growing up. She becomes extremely envious and agitated over
Tomoki's relationship with both his
Angeloid Ikaros and later with
Nymph, a fellow
Angeloid like
Ikaros. Whenever his perverted side comes out, she usually responds by smacking him with a brutal karate-chop that leaves him dazed and in pain. She is deeply in love with
Tomoki (to the point in which she dreams of her and
Tomoki being together in provocative situations, such as taking a bath with him, etc.) and fears that he might fall for one of the Angeloids instead. Even though she denies it, she actually enjoys it whenever
Tomoki is being perverted in her presence.

Eishiro Sugata
3. Eishiro Sugata: The esteemed leader of the small school club called "
The New World Club",
Eishiro's current goal is to explore the "new world", in which he says lies within the black orb of disturbance that shot down
Ikaros to earth. He is a research scientist, researching into the issues regarding the "new world" and that of the
Angeloids. He has a tendency to praise famous explorers such as
Columbus and Marco Polo in his speeches. He is friends with the
President of the Student Council.

Mikako Satsukitane
4. Mikako Satsukitane: A upperclassman to both
Tomoki and
Sohara,
Mikako is the
President of the Student Council at the high school and a childhood friend of
Eishiro Sugata. She is the direct heiress of a might Yakuzua family and she is very manipulative, cunning, and sadistic towards others that she considers below her.
The cast of
Sora no Otoshimono is funny, random, and amazing all at the same time. One of the more better casts of a ecchi anime that you will see.
Characters: 4.25 Stars out of possible 5 Stars3a. Main Angeloids
After being imprinted to
Pet-Class Angeloid Ikaros and thus magically bound to her,
Tomoki unwillingly becomes her new master, who she will grant his every wish and desire that he so craves. Later on in the show, he will come across another
Angeloid by the name of
Nymph, who was sent to recapture
Ikaros. Listed below are the two main
Angeloids that make their appearance in
Sora no Otoshimono.

Type Alpha-Angeloid: Ikaros
1. Ikaros:
Ikaros is a
Pet-Class, Type Alpha Angeloid who falls from the mysterious black orb in the skies above the city of
Sorami. After being saved by
Tomoki Sakurai and by closely saving him from being crushed by a falling pillar, she imprints herself upon him, connecting to him via a invisible chain that effectively bonds them together. Her primary objective as a
Pet-Class Angeloid is to grant her current master (
Tomoki) with any wish or desire that he currently wants with the use of magical cards, thus leading to some outrageous moments that create absolute chaos in his mainly quiet life. She is very submissive towards others and has a very poor grasp on human emotions, although she does display aggressive anger whenever
Tomoki's life is in peril. She is willing to sacrifice herself at a moment's notice in order to protect
Tomoki's life at all cost.
It begins to be revealed later in the story that she is not just a Pet-Class Angeloid, but that she is a more powerful Battle-Class Angeloid, which is the most powerful type of Angeloid in existence. In her past years, she was known as the "Uranus Queen" back in the world of Synapse, which is the new world that Eishiro had mentioned to Tomoki and Sohara about. While in Synapse, she terrorized the peoples of that world due to her incredible power and battle capabilities, and was even sent down to Earth long ago to pass judgement upon humans and is directly responsible for the destruction of the Tower of Babel. She is capable of achieving Mach 24 in flight, and can go deeper than any known submarine without feeling the effects of the crushing pressure of the deep sea. Her abilities have been toned down and locked away inside of Ikaros by her captors in Synapse, leading to her submissive nature due to her processing power being toned down. It is after Nymph hacks into her system and removes the locks on Ikaro's Uranus Queen mode that she becomes more human and more prone to becoming violent in order to protect those around her.

Type-Beta Angeloid: Nymph
2. Nymph:
Nymph is a
Electronic Warfare Class, Type Beta Angeloid that is originally sent by her master in
Synapse to capture
Ikaros and return her to him, so he can harvest her wings (which are very rare, apparently). But with her being far less powerful than
Ikaros, she fails to complete her mission and decides to move in with both
Tomoki and
Ikaros (much to the dismay of
Sohara, who sees
Tomoki falling in love with one of the
Angeloids instead of her). At the beginning, she treats humans as lower beings that are under her boots (referring to
Tomoki on several occasions as a "bug"), but as she observes the ways of humans, her opinions on them begin to change. She begins to develop feelings for
Tomoki after seeing how kind of a master he is towards
Ikaros (unlike hers, who beats her whenever he feels like it) and eventually decides to turn against her master in
Synapse.
Nymph is highly-skilled in the ways of stealth and hacking technology but low on overall power and strength.
3b. Other Angeloids (Harpies)
After a key series of events take place, two other
Angeloids are dispatched by
Nymph's master in
Synapse to complete the mission that
Nymph failed to do, and to teach
Nymph a deadly lesson for betraying their master. They make a brief appearence in the anime (towards the end of the series), but they affect the ending.

Type-Gamma Angeloids: Harpies
1. Harpies: The twin
Ambush-Class, Type Gamma Angeloids sent by
Nymph's master in
Synapse to punish the futility of
Nymph and to capture
Ikaros at all cost, they serve as the main antagonist towards the conclusion of the anime.
They are responsible for tearing off Nymph's wings after betraying her on a deal to bring Ikaros to
them so that they could capture her and return to their master. They are defeated after attacking Ikaros and triggering her lethal Uranus Queen mode, which quickly leads to their demises.
