Welcome, my fellow AnimeVice followers, to this my 3rd official blog review here on AnimeVice. Today, I will be discussing the dark, twisted anime known as Elfen Lied (2004). Like in previous blog reviews for Kampfer and Sora no Otoshimono, this review will be kept as spoiler-free as possible, but for whatever spoilers that do appear in my review, they will once again be hidden away behind the "Spoiler Warning" banner. In Part One of my review, I will look into the plot, give detailed notes regarding the main and supporting characters within Elfen Lied, and explore the logic behind the dark, sadistic story that will hopefully better understand this dark anime. Enjoy!

Elfen Lied: A Dark, Sinister Tale of Murder, Revenge, and Redemption

1. The Plot (Beginning)

The main plot of Elfen Lied revolves around several characters, most notably around the main human character Kouta and the Diclonius Lucy in the town of Kamakura, Japan. The story begins deep within a secret military research base located on a small island outside the town of Kamakura. In this top-secret research lab, the military are holding several examples of a new genetic strain of the human race, simply known as Diclonius, prisoners to serve as living test subjects.

And thus begins the dark, twisted adventures that ensnare Kouta, Yuka, and the rest of the characters of Elfen Lied.

2. Main/Supporting Characters (Mainly Spoiler-Free)

During the duration of the anime, Nyu (and her other personality Lucy) comes to know and befriend many various characters as well as make several bitter enemies along the way. Listed below are the main characters and supporting characters that make an appearance within Elfen Lied.

 Diclonius Lucy
 Diclonius Lucy
1a. Lucy: The slender, teenage Diclonius who attempts to and successfully escapes from the military reasearch in the beginning of the anime. She has the appearance of a normal 18-year old girl, although she is different due to the two small "horn-like" protrusions that stick out from the top of her head. She personally harbors a strong hatred and loathing of all humans, due to the way they have treated her her whole life (especially when she was a child, when her fellow peers would endlessly tease her and torment her about the two horns that stick out from her head). She is a cold, heartless individual who does not show any sympathy or empathy towards those she kills, fueled by her sadistic behavior towards others. Being a Diclonius, she has access to special abilities such as the use of four telekinetic arms called vectors (invisible to the human eye with a range of 2 meters) and a special force field that can deflect most ammunition fired at her.

Nyu
Nyu
1b. Nyu: After being shot in the head by the .50 Cal shot from the BMG Sniper Rifle, Lucy reverts to a second, new personality that is very childlike and infantile to others in nature. She does not have access to the powers that her other personality Lucy has, and has seemed to forget altogether that she is a Diclonius at all. She is very innocent in behavior and can only say a limited amount of words (such as "Nyu" or "Kouta"). However, whenever she is threatened with violence or hits her head hard enough, she quickly reverts to her other personality Lucy.

 Kouta
 Kouta
2. Kouta: The main male character of Elfen Lied, Kouta currently lives with his cousin Yuka in the town of Kamakura, Japan in a closed-down inn/restaurant rented by Yuka's parents. He attends classes at the Kamakura University with his cousin, and spends his days trying to enjoy a normal life. Having suffered the extremely traumatic loss of both his younger sister and his father when he was young (the resulting trauma resulted in Kouta being sent to a psychiatric ward for more than a full year to be helped deal with his sorrow), he is very sympathetic and generous towards all of the girls that he meets and that are around him, for he can relate to their issues and they also remind him of his late sister, Kanae. He suffers from amnesia regarding the loss of his father and sister, and instead thinks that they both died from a severe illness.

Yuka
Yuka
3. Yuka: The caring, compassionate cousin of Kouta, Yuka currently lives with him in a old, closed-down inn/restaurant that her parents have rented out for the two of them. Although they are related, she develops feelings for him, perhaps related to the loss of his family when he was young. She becomes quite irritable and jealous whenever Kouta shows attention and feelings for Nyu, who moves in with them at the inn after Kouta brings her home from the beach. She possesses a deeply caring side along with a high level of maturity, and cares for both Nyu and Mayu.

 Mayu
 Mayu
4. Mayu: A young homeless girl who at first lives on the beach with her puppy Wanta, Mayu ran away from her past home to escape a terrible stepfather and a dysfunctional mother who never bothered caring for her. She is first introduced after finding Kouta's umbrella that he had left on the beach (after taking Nyu under his wing and helping her home to the inn) and returns it to the inn. She survives on her own by sustaining off of the spare bread scraps that the kind people at the local bakery offer to her every night, but after the bakery gets shut down, she accepts the offers to stay at the inn with Kouta, Yuka, and Nyu. She is very friendly towards other, and sees Yuka and Kouta as proper mother and father figures in her life.

Diclonius Nana
Diclonius Nana
5. Nana: A fellow Diclonius along with Lucy at the secret military research lab, Nana (also known as Number 7, her number at the research facility and what her name in Japanese means) is sent out to locate Lucy and report her location at all costs by Director Kakuzawa and her "adoptive" father Kurama. She has the appearance of a 12 to 14 year old girl due to her being a Diclonius, even though she is really around the age of six or seven. Kurama "adopts" her and thinks of her as his own daughter, showing compassion and providing a emotional crutch for Nana after she is subjected to horrifying tests by the researchers at the facility. Nana thinks of Kurama as her father, calling him "Papa" and always endures through the many tests and trials performed on her, wanting to make him proud to have her as his daughter. Compared to Lucy (who is cold and sadistic towards everyone), she is very kind towards others and friendly to Kouta and Yuka when she comes across them later on in the anime. Being a Diclonius, she too possesses the same powers that Lucy has, but her vectors have a much farther reach (5 meters) and has certain abilities that Lucy does not have.

Bando
Bando
5. Bando: A tough, take-no-excuses member of the SAT (Special Assault Task-Force) who is originally sent out to search for Lucy's current location and to kill her on sight, no questions asked. He loves the thrill of killing people, so much so that is is a perfect canidate to lead the SAT assault team in the hunt for Lucy. He is severely maimed and left to die upon the beach after his men are attacked by Lucy, who re-appears to slaughter them after they attack her Nyu personality and trigger the change. Later, with the help of Kurama, he is able to walk again with the help of bionic, prosthetic, and cybernetic limbs and implants to escape his cell and to search for Lucy to enact his revenge upon her.

 Kurama
 Kurama
6. Kurama: The chief research director at the secret military research base and the surrogate father of Nana, Kurama leads the efforts to study and better understand the dozen or so Diclonius that are being held within the facility. Spared by Lucy in the first episode of the anime, he focuses his efforts into recapturing her, helping a special forces agent by the name of Bondo, and supporting his surrogate daughter Nana. He has never been the same since his wife died while giving birth to their daughter, who ended up having some serious issues at birth. He is proud of Nana and is there to act as a emotional crutch to help ease her suffering.

3. The Diclonius (The Logic)

It is believed that the emergence of the Diclonius are a direct evolutionary step up in the development of humans. As seen with Lucy and Nana, they look like your average pre-teen and teenage girls, the exception to this logic is the two small "horn-like" protrusions that stick up out of the top of their heads. It is believed that the two horns represent the overall powers of the Diclonius in question, and that knocking off one or both of them could have devastating effects upon them.

Welcome back, my fellow AnimeVice followers, to this my second part of my blog review of the hit ecchi-anime Sora no Otoshimono (2009). As seen in the first part, most major spoilers regarding the anime will be hidden away behind the "Spoiler Warning" banner, but I will try to keep this as spoiler-free as possible. In Part Two of my review, I will explore the logic and story that the show is based on, expand on the dream that Tomoki has regarding the girl being "taken by the sky" and help you better understand this wonderful show.

3c. Tomoki's Re-occurring Dream (The Logic)

The mysterious girl who appears in Tomoki's dreams, leaving him heartbroken when she is pulled away from him.
The mysterious girl who appears in Tomoki's dreams, leaving him heartbroken when she is pulled away from him.
Ever since Tomoki Sakurai was a young boy, he has had a re-occurring dream that rattles him to the core and almost always leaves him crying when he wakes up.  In the first episode, this re-occurring dream is briefly shown several times, each time revealing a little more of what transpires within the dream. The sight of Tomoki crying leaves his best friend Sohara concerned over his well-being, and decides to help him discover the true meaning of his mysterious visions.

4. The Imprinting Process (The Logic)

Imprinting Process
Imprinting Process
The Imprinting Process is first seen in Sora no Otoshimono in the first episode, after Ikaros awakens in time to save herself and Tomoki from being crushed by the falling stone pillar. This allows for Ikaros to be connected to Tomoki via a magical bond that allows him to become her new master.

5. Ikaros and the Pet-Class "Transport" Card (The Logic)

 Pet-Class Transport Card
 Pet-Class Transport Card
This is the card that allows Ikaros to grant any of Tomoki's wishes by summoning the requested items to be teleported to her current location. All Pet-Class Angeloids carry this card, in order to ensure the happiness and pleasure of their masters. The card can be used by anyone who possesses it, leading to several outrageous situations in which Tomoki's perverted thoughts become reality without him ever intending for them to come to pass.  The card can grant almost any wish that one so desires, for all they must do is think of the one thing they want the most and wish for it.

6. Types of Angeloids

There are Three main types of Angeloids that make a appearance during the progression of the anime. Listed below are all four types of Angeloids, their abilities, and their primary attacks/weapons.

 Pet-Class Type Alpha
 Pet-Class Type Alpha
1. Pet-Class Type Alpha Angeloid: These variations of Angeloids are created for one sole purpose: to ensure the pleasure of their master and to grant him whatever he desires. Ikaros arrives on Earth as a Pet-Class Type Alpha Angeloid, with only the objective of serving her master and fulfilling his every wish and desires. By using the "Transport" card that is given to all Pet-Class Angeloids, she can summon almost anything that she requests from the world of Synapse and grant her master's every wish. Built to be very submissive and extremely loyal to their masters, Pet-Class Angeloids serve without hesitation.

 Electronic-Warfare     Type Beta
 Electronic-Warfare     Type Beta
2. Electronic-Warfare Class Type Beta Angeloid: These variations of Angeloids are built for stealth and battle situations. They can hide their wings, hack into high-security systems, and contain high processing powers. Nymph, who is a Electronic-Warfare Type Beta Angeloid, originally seeks to capture Ikaros and return her to her master. She possesses high agility, processing powers, and is extremely talented at hacking electronics whenever the need arises. Her primary attack is a powerful energy beam called Paradise Song, which shoots high-energy blasts at her enemies.

 Ambush-Class Type Gamma
 Ambush-Class Type Gamma
3. Ambush-Class Type Gamma Angeloids: The twin Harpies that become the main antagonists towards the end of the show are both Ambush Class Type Gamma Angeloids, possessing the powers of invisibility, super-strength, and devastating energy weapon attacks. They posses a might particle canon by the name of Prometheus, which shoots a high-energy laser blast that heats the air around it to a staggering 3,000 degrees C.

7a. The World of Synapse (The Logic)

The world that resides within the black pocket of disturbance that slowly is making it's way over the earth's surface, Synapse is the world in which the Angels and their creations (mainly the Angeloids, such as Ikaros, Nymph, and the Hapries) live in. Surrounded by mystery and shrouded in secrecy, it is not until later on before Tomoki and his friends learn the truth about the "new world" hidden away from mankind and feel the wrath of one of it's inhabitants, who seeks the rare Variable wings of Ikaros and to punish Nymph for failing to serve him obediently.

7b. Nymph's Master in Synapse and the Harpies (Spoilers Hidden)

Nymph's master in Synapse enjoys seeing her suffer at his hands when she fails her mission
Nymph's master in Synapse enjoys seeing her suffer at his hands when she fails her mission
Living in a massive Roman-style temple up in the upper reaches of Synapse, the male angel who is the master of both Nymph and the two Harpies requests that she go down to earth and seek the Angeloid Ikaros, for he desires to come into possession of her Variable-Type wings (which are apparently quite rare and valuable). Fearing to upset her master and bring on another vicious beating, Nymph makes her way down to the town of Somari, to observe the movements of Ikaros and to capture her in order to return to her master and please him.

8. Conclusion

Overall, Sora no Otoshimono is a funny, ecchi-filled anime that will leave you either laughing until you cry or will leave you somewhat shocked that they managed to pull it all off in a outrageously-epic way. I recommend this show to all who have a great appreciation for Harem and Ecchi animes. If you can overlook the somewhat non-existent story, this show is fairly enjoyable.

*** (ignore this unfortunate format error)***

The Good: Original cast, outrageous moments, some fan-service to be found, interesting concepts, great artistic style, full of strange twists.
The Bad: Lackluster (almost non-existent) story and plot, some dull moments, more information regarding the girl in Tomoki's dreams and Synapse would have helped the story and Plot.

Final Score: 3.75 Stars out of a possible 5 Stars

Hello, my fellow AnimeVice lovers, and I would like to welcome you all to this my second full-fledged blog review of a anime series. For this review, I will be discussing the hit ecchi-anime Sora no Otoshimono (2009). Like in my previous review (Kampfer), I will try to keep this as spoiler-free as possible, but any potential spoilers that might appear in this review will once again be hidden away behind the "Spoiler Warning" banner. In this first part of my review, I will explore the plot and story that the show is based on, give detailed information regarding the many characters that make appearences, and help you better understand this wonderful show. Enjoy!

Sora no Otoshimono: A Ecchi Anime Done Right
Sora no Otoshimono: A Ecchi Anime Done Right

1. The Plot (Beginning)

The main plot of Sora no Otoshimono primarily revolves around the main protagonist Tomoki Sakurai, a teenage boy who currently lives in the small city of Sorami along with his childhood friend Sohara Mituski. He lives alone in his parents old house on the outskirts of town, and only wishes to enjoy a life full of peace and quiet. Every night since he was young, Tomoki has had a recurring dream in which he is upon a grassy hillside, and a mysterious girl with wings that he loves is being taken away from him by the sky. She warns him that "the sky has me", tells him to "come and save me", and that he will lose his angel if he is not careful. This dream leaves Tomoki confused and crying when he wakes from the dream, for he feels as if he is losing something important to his existence. Worried about his reoccuring dream after seeing him wake up crying after class is over, Sohara decides that they will tell the leader of The New World Club at their school about his dreams.

Being saved from suffering a horrendous death is pretty swell, but Tomoki never imagined being saved by a angel...
Being saved from suffering a horrendous death is pretty swell, but Tomoki never imagined being saved by a angel...

Thus starts the wild, wacky adventures of Tomoki Sakurai as he tries to figure out why these series of events have taken place, and how he must deal with the changes that now affect his everyday life.

The plot of Sora no Otoshimono can be confusing at times, mainly due to the story jumping around somewhat randomly as the show progresses. Fans of the ecchi genre will greatly enjoy this show, but might be put slightly off by the inconsistency of the story.

Plot: 3.75 Stars out of 5 Possible Stars.

2. Main/Supporting Characters (Mainly Spoiler-free)

During the course of his adventures, Tomoki befriends several different people that each end up playing a part in the overall story.  Listed below are the supporting characters, other Angeloids, and beings that Tomoki comes across during his wild adventures in Sora no Otoshimono

 Tomoki Sakurai
 Tomoki Sakurai
  1. Tomoki Sakurai: A quiet, teenage boy who currently attends school in the small city of Sorami, Tomoki is the main protagonist of Sora no Otoshimono. He lives alone in his parent's old home on the outskirts of town across the street from childhood friend Sohara Mitsuki; preferring to live a live full of peace and quiet (as his motto goes: Peace and Quiet is Best). His mostly peaceful life, however, is brought to a shattering end after he is saved from certain death by Pet-Class Angeloid Ikaros, who imprints herself to him with a magical chain and declares him her new master. Even though Tomoki has a extremely perverted side (such as using one of the many peepholes that he has made in order to see girls changing or stashing his collection of pornography in his closet), he is a mostly kind and sincere person, who deeply cares for those around him.

 Sohara Mitsuki
 Sohara Mitsuki
2. Sohara Mitsuki: The teenage childhood friend of Tomoki Sakurai, Sohara often wakes him up every morning before they both head to high school (because she lives across the street in her mother's house). She experienced a sickly childhood when she was young, thus resulting in her not having very many friends to play with while growing up. She becomes extremely envious and agitated over Tomoki's relationship with both his Angeloid Ikaros and later with Nymph, a fellow Angeloid like Ikaros. Whenever his perverted side comes out, she usually responds by smacking him with a brutal karate-chop that leaves him dazed and in pain. She is deeply in love with Tomoki (to the point in which she dreams of her and Tomoki being together in provocative situations, such as taking a bath with him, etc.) and fears that he might fall for one of the Angeloids instead. Even though she denies it, she actually enjoys it whenever Tomoki is being perverted in her presence.

 Eishiro Sugata
 Eishiro Sugata
3. Eishiro Sugata: The esteemed leader of the small school club called "The New World Club", Eishiro's current goal is to explore the "new world", in which he says lies within the black orb of disturbance that shot down Ikaros to earth. He is a research scientist, researching into the issues regarding the "new world" and that of the Angeloids. He has a tendency to praise famous explorers such as Columbus and Marco Polo in his speeches. He is friends with the President of the Student Council

 Mikako Satsukitane
 Mikako Satsukitane

4. Mikako Satsukitane: A upperclassman to both Tomoki and Sohara, Mikako is the President of the Student Council at the high school and a childhood friend of Eishiro Sugata. She is the direct heiress of a might Yakuzua family and she is very manipulative, cunning, and sadistic towards others that she considers below her.

The cast of Sora no Otoshimono is funny, random, and amazing all at the same time. One of the more better casts of a ecchi anime that you will see.
Characters: 4.25 Stars out of possible 5 Stars

3a. Main Angeloids

After being imprinted to Pet-Class Angeloid Ikaros and thus magically bound to her, Tomoki unwillingly becomes her new master, who she will grant his every wish and desire that he so craves. Later on in the show, he will come across another Angeloid by the name of Nymph, who was sent to recapture Ikaros. Listed below are the two main Angeloids that make their appearance in Sora no Otoshimono.

 Type Alpha-Angeloid: Ikaros
 Type Alpha-Angeloid: Ikaros
1. Ikaros: Ikaros is a Pet-Class, Type Alpha Angeloid who falls from the mysterious black orb in the skies above the city of Sorami. After being saved by Tomoki Sakurai and by closely saving him from being crushed by a falling pillar, she imprints herself upon him, connecting to him via a invisible chain that effectively bonds them together. Her primary objective as a Pet-Class Angeloid is to grant her current master (Tomoki) with any wish or desire that he currently wants with the use of magical cards, thus leading to some outrageous moments that create absolute chaos in his mainly quiet life. She is very submissive towards others and has a very poor grasp on human emotions, although she does display aggressive anger whenever Tomoki's life is in peril. She is willing to sacrifice herself at a moment's notice in order to protect Tomoki's life at all cost.

 Type-Beta Angeloid: Nymph
 Type-Beta Angeloid: Nymph
2. Nymph: Nymph is a Electronic Warfare Class, Type Beta Angeloid that is originally sent by her master in Synapse to capture Ikaros and return her to him, so he can harvest her wings (which are very rare, apparently). But with her being far less powerful than Ikaros, she fails to complete her mission and decides to move in with both Tomoki and Ikaros (much to the dismay of Sohara, who sees Tomoki falling in love with one of the Angeloids instead of her). At the beginning, she treats humans as lower beings that are under her boots (referring to Tomoki on several occasions as a "bug"), but as she observes the ways of humans, her opinions on them begin to change. She begins to develop feelings for Tomoki after seeing how kind of a master he is towards Ikaros (unlike hers, who beats her whenever he feels like it) and eventually decides to turn against her master in Synapse. Nymph is highly-skilled in the ways of stealth and hacking technology but low on overall power and strength.

3b. Other Angeloids (Harpies)

After a key series of events take place, two other Angeloids are dispatched by Nymph's master in Synapse to complete the mission that Nymph failed to do, and to teach Nymph a deadly lesson for betraying their master. They make a brief appearence in the anime (towards the end of the series), but they affect the ending.

 Type-Gamma Angeloids: Harpies
 Type-Gamma Angeloids: Harpies
1. Harpies: The twin Ambush-Class, Type Gamma Angeloids sent by Nymph's master in Synapse to punish the futility of Nymph and to capture Ikaros at all cost, they serve as the main antagonist towards the conclusion of the anime.

This concludes my first of two part blog review of Sora no Otoshimono. Be on the lookout for Part Two of my review tomorrow! n_n

Hello, my fellow AnimeVice members. Welcome to my second part of my first full-fledged attempt at a blog review of the hit harem/ecchi-action anime Kampfer (2009). If you have not read the first part of my review, please go to my blog page and look it up (My Impressions: Kampfer [Part One] [Remastered]) first before reading this review. Again, I will try to keep this as spoiler-free as possible, but whatever spoilers that are revealed will be hidden behind the "Spoiler Warning! " banner. This part of the review goes into greater detail and into deeper logic to help those better understand the themes and logic of the show. Enjoy!

4. The Moderator's War and Creation of Kampfers

The reason behind the existance of Kampfers and why they must always fight against fellow Kampfers of the other side is a complicated one, full of speculation and unknown factors. The following information (containing some plot spoilers) roughly explains the war that the Moderators fought with each other, why Kampfers were created, and why they must fight against each other to represent each faction. It is revealed later in the anime the series of events that led to the creation of Kampfers and why they must fight the war that the Moderators had once fought among themselves.

5. The Bracelet of Oath

The Bracelet of Oath is a small, crown-edged metallic bracelet that resides on each Kampfer's right wrist. The bracelet comes in three different colors: Red, Blue, and White. This represents the Kampfer's faction, their allegiance, and signals when the transformation to their Kampfer form whenever the bracelet begins to glow brightly. For Natsuru, this means that his transformation into his female form is imminent, and that he goes and finds a area away from those who do not know about Kampfers so they do not witness his change of gender.

6. Transformations (Explained)

Natsuru after finishing the change to his female Kampfer form
Natsuru after finishing the change to his female Kampfer form
The transformation process is what turns the selected person into a Kampfer in order to use their granted abilities against their enemies. Each Kampfer's power resides in the small, colored bracelet called the Bracelet of Oath; which is attached to their right wrist. Most of those who are chosen to become Kampfers are already female in gender, but it seems that Natsuru is apperently the first ever guy to be chosen to become a Kampfer. Since the person must be of the female sex to have full access to their granted powers, Natsuru must first change into a female version of himself in order to use his Zauber-Type Kampfer abilities. The indicator that the gender change for him is going to occur within a short period is when his Bracelet of Oath starts to brightly glow a bluish hue, essentially warning him that the change is about to occur and to go somewhere secure so that someone who does not know about the existence of Kampfers can not witness the transformation.

7. The Three Types of Kampfers

There are three types of Kampfers created by the Moderators that exist in the show. Below is the list of those types,  who possesses them, and what powers does that type grants the user.

 Gewehr-Type
 Gewehr-Type
1. Gewehr-Type: This Kampfer has the ability to use various guns in battle. Akane Mishima (Blue) is a Gewehr-type and has access to a 1911 .45 Caliber Pistol when in her Kampfer form.

 Zauber-Type
 Zauber-Type
 2. Zauber-Type: This Kampfer has the ability to use either magical fire or powerful energy attacks in battle. Natsuru Seno (Blue) is a Zauber-type and has access to magical fire attacks when in his female Kampfer form.

 Schwert-Type
 Schwert-Type

3. Schwert-Type: This Kampfer has the ability to use deadly melee-based bladed weapons in battle. Both Shizuku Sango (Red) and Mikoto Kondo (Red) are Schwert-types; with Shizuku using twin daggers connected on a long chain and Mikoto wielding a deadly Japanese katana when they are in their Kampfer forms.

8. Conclusion

In conclusion, Kampfer will entertain some with some of the wacky humor and others with the sexually-charged moments. This anime is full of great fan-service (if you are into those type of shows) and even when the plot and story sometimes falls flat, the mostly-interesting plight of Natsuru Seno and his Kampfer ordeal will keep you interested in the show. Not recommended for those who fail to appreciate the ecchi/harem aspects of the show.

The Good: Interesting characters, cool concepts, lots of fan-service to be found, several fast-paced action scenes, great graphical style.
The Bad: Stumbling plot, story never fully expands into it's potential, some dull moments, suffers from dissapointing moments, somewhat hit-or-miss pacing, show seems somewhat rushed and is confusing at times, Natsuru seems too much like a girl at times even when in his male form.

Final Score: 3.75 Stars out of 5 Possible Stars.

Hello, my fellow AnimeVice members. Welcome to my first blog review of one of the anime series that I have recently finished! In this blog, I will discuss the anime show Kampfer (2009), which is a 12 episode series that will appeal to most harem and ecchi fans. I will try to make this a spoiler-free as possible, but whatever spoilers do appear, they will be cloaked behind the spoiler banner. Enjoy!

Kampfer: Superpowered Girls at Play
Kampfer: Superpowered Girls at Play

1. The Plot (Beginning)

The main plot revolves around a male high school student by the name of Natsuru Seno, a average blue-haired boy who attends Seitetsu Gakuin High School and lives alone. One night, he has this strange dream, in which he is being pursued by a red-headed girl who is trying to kill him with her pistol. In his dream, he manages to escape from his pursuer and return to safety. However, when he awakes in the middle of the night, Natsuru is shocked to discover that he has mysteriously turned into a girl, saying "My chest has gotten bigger!" as he tries to come to grips with the current situation that he finds himself in. He is even more shocked after the stuffed tiger doll (Disembowled Tiger) that his high-school crush Kaede gave to him starts talking to him, telling him that he has been chosen by the moderators to be a blue Kampfer, a female super-warrior that fights against rival Kampfers to battle for the Moderators. Disembowled Tiger tells him that he is his messenger, to help advise and assist him in times of need. Displeased with this revelation, Natsuru wishes that this was all a bad dream, that none of this was true, and as he lays back down on his bed, Disembowled Tiger crawls onto him and with a mighty blow, knocks Natsuru out cold. When he wakes up, he is relieved to see that he was still a boy, and that what happened last night was a bad dream, but this logic gets tossed out the window when he notices a bright blue bracelet on his wrist, the bracelet that brands him as a Kampfer.

Waking up to find out that you are now a girl must really be a embarrasing hit to your manhood
Waking up to find out that you are now a girl must really be a embarrasing hit to your manhood

Thus starts the adventures of Natsuru as he not only has been chosen to become a Kampfer, but now faces the issue of transforming into his female self in front of others who do not know about Kampfers when danger arises.

The plot of Kampfer might be the single issue I have with the show, for at times it stumbles around blindly (leaving the viewer perplexed) and in some episodes it shines. This can be a slight issue for rookie anime viewers, but seasoned viewers can overlook this issue and keep up with the story.

Plot: 3.5/5 Stars

2. Main/Supporting Characters (Mostly Spoiler-Free)

Natsuru comes to know several other individuals during the course of his adventures as he learns the ropes of what it takes to be a Kampfer. Listed below is the side characters, the other Kampfers that he comes across for the duration of the show, along with the messengers that play a key side-role in Kampfer.

Natsuru Seno
Natsuru Seno
1. Natsuru Seno: A average male student in his second year at Seitetsu Gakuin High School, Natsuru is the main protagonist in the Kampfer show. He has a very strong crush on fellow classmate Kaede Sakura (one of the school beauties) that tends to make him very single-minded with his feelings for other women. When it comes to other women, especially his feelings for Akane, Shizuku, and Mikoto, he seems to ignore those and put his attention to Kaede. He was choosen by the Moderators to become a Blue Zauber-Type Kampfer who can wield the power of fire for battle. Becoming a Kampfer, however, means that Natsuru must change into a girl before he can use his powers, and his change into a female Kampfer is triggered when other Kampfers (especially the Reds) or serious danger is around. After his female form is revealed at school after battling with Shizuku, he is enrolled into the female side of the high school (which keeps the two genders of students apart). He unfortunately becomes a subject of intense affection from Kaede (who shows little to no interest in his male form) and by both the female student body (all who wish for him to swear a oath of sisterhood to them) and the boys at school.

Akane Mishima
Akane Mishima
2. Akane Mishima: The school librarian and the first of several friends that Natsuru gains after he becomes a Kampfer. She is also a Blue Kampfer (Gewher-Type who wields a 1911 .45 Pistol) and changes from a timid, shy girl into a tough, foul-mouthed girl who is too trigger happy for her own good. She tells Natsuru more about what being a Kampfer is than his messenger Disembowled Tiger does, revealing that he is a Zauber-Type (A magic-wielding Kamper who shoots either fire or beams of energy from his hands when attacking). Natsuru is Akane's first male friend and after awhile she begins to harbor strong feeling about him. She usually becomes very envious and irritable whenever he talks about other girls (such as his high school crush Kaede) or whenever another girl seems to take interest in him.

Shizuku Sango
Shizuku Sango
3. Shizuku Sango: The president of the Student Council on the female side of the high school, one of the three "Beauties" of Seitetsu, and a model student with a flawless record of attendance. She is a member of the Red Kampfers (battle enemies of the Blue Kampfers) and has the powers of a Schwert-Type Kampfer (she wields twin daggers that are connected to each other on a long chain), and yet after battling against Natsuru and Akane several times, they call a truce among themselves and team up to expose the Moderator's true intentions. She too develops strong feeling for Natsuru (she prefers his male form) and tries to gain his affection by giving romantic hints and even going as far as to make out with him in front of Sakura. Her advances, however, are treated with suspicion and mistrust by Natsuru, who still seeks the love of Kaede and treats her romantic advances as if she was up to something.

 Mikoto Kondo
 Mikoto Kondo
4. Mikoto Kondo: Natsuru's childhood friend who usually lives abroad (due to the fact that her father is a avid archaeologist) and returns to the high school after being away for a long trip. She is not afraid to do things that most people would have second thoughts about  the danger involved ahead due to the rugged lifestyle that she experenced as a archaeologist.  She has a big love of curry, and almost all of her meals consist of eating curry. Not originally a Kampfer when the story begins, she becomes one after catching a bundle of flowers that Kaede had thrown at the school festival and coming into contact with the messenger hidden within. She has very strong feelings for Natsuru and become quite bothered when she discovers another girl at school who goes by the same name (which is Natsuru in his female Kampfer form) until the big misunderstanding is later cleared up. She grows extremely nervous and jumpy when seeing the romantic advances of Akane and Shizuku on Natsuru, thinking that it is hurting her chances to be with him.  She is, like Shizuku, a Schwert-Type Red Kampfer, the only exception is that she wields a deadly katana .

 Kaede Sakura

5. Kaede Sakura: One of the three "Beauties of Seitetsu" and the childhood friend of Shizuku Sango, she has a mass of admirers at the high school (Natsuru being one among them). She boasts a massive collection of stuffed Zomotsu Animal dolls and she tends to share her dolls with her new friends at school. She wants nothing to do with Natsuru's male form (much to his dismay), but begins to develop a major crush on his female form soon after he saved her from a attacking Akane back in the beginning of the show. She seems to think that the male Natsuru is trying to score with the female Natsuru, and thus becomes his rival for the female Natsuru's affection.  This leads to her becoming more hostile towards him at high school (again to his dismay).

3. The Messengers of Kampfer

Given to Natsuru and his friends by Kaede Sakura, these dolls (infused with the power of the Moderators) are given to those choosen to become Kampfers and act as their guides and advisors to their new life. Listed are the messengers that appear in Kampfer:

Disembowled Tiger
Disembowled Tiger
1. Disembowled Tiger: The tiger messenger doll originally given to Natsuru Seno by Kaede Sakura, he acts as both a guide and advisor to Natsuru after he becomes a Kampfer. A tiger doll with a eye-patch over it's one eye from the Entrails Animal dolls line, it loves to watch the anime show Sazae-san.

Suicidal Black Rabbit

 Strangled Stray Dog
 Strangled Stray Dog
4. Strangled Stray DogThe messenger doll given to Mikoto Kondo by Kaede Sakura, she acts as a advisor and guide for Mikoto and her Kampfer situation. A yellow dog with a belt tightly strapped around it's neck, it talks in a very soft, subdued voice and currently enjoys watching rare commercials from other countries.

5. Burnt Alive Lion: The oldest messenger in the hands of Kaede Sakura after she got it by mere chance (for it was a older doll and hard to find). It serves as a link between the Moderators and Kaede, although it sleeps most of the time due to its age. It has the apperence of a burnt lion, and does not speak much.

In my opinion, the cast of Kampfer is both entertaining and diverse. The humor that emerges from the Akane/Shizuku/Mikoto clashes over who has the right to be the affection of Natsuru is priceless (just see the top picture at the top of the review to see what I mean) n_n
