I just started watching the anime yesterday, I just caught up to it right now. I have one MAJOR complaint of the series, that complaint is the main character himself. I really don't like the main character, to me he just acts like an idiot! But if you take him out I generally like the series itself, even though to me it's kinda predictable who is the true main villian of the series or atleast I have an idea who is the main villian. Even though I don't like Eren, I will keep watching the series and see how it ends.

I really honestly think the anime fucked up with Eren and regularly makes him look worse than he should be. I don't know if it's the direction or the voice acting, but I like Eren in the manga, but I hate him in the anime.

So is the manga Eren more likeable because seriously, I don't like him very much?

There's a lot less crying and hesitation, since everything isn't nearly as dragged out, plus the events of ep 24 play out much better for him (refer to my earlier post). I dunno, it's certainly possible to still dislike him after reading the manga, but I see a LOT more anime viewers talking about how terrible he is than manga readers. Maybe it is Yuki Kaji's voice acting? Although I don't have a problem with him as Johnny Joestar in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: All Star Battle.

What's the spoiler policy here? If people are going to contribute following the anime should recent/important revelations be spoilered?

Newest chapter (49) was great. Erwin being a badass, Armin being a hard-ass (nice face Armin), and an old friend from chapter 1 appears.

So how many of you are reading the manga or intend to read the manga after the anime ends? (If you don't you don't need to reply.) I just want to know how much interest there is in the manga around here, if there's enough, I'll make an Attack on Titan manga discussion thread for you guys.

Personally after checking out some of the manga it just doesn't have the same kind of atmosphere or impact the anime has for me, so I'll wait for the next season.

I'm all caught up on the manga and vastly prefer it to the anime. I think the anime's direction has been pretty terrible, it's too over-the-top and lacks any form of subtlety. Not that the manga is all that subtle, but it's smarter about a lot of things the anime is terrible with (I blame the director). The titans especailly are creepier in the manga (still goofy, though) while I think the anime has them slide into the goofy side of the scale more. Plus the production values are some of the most wildly inconsistent I've ever seen.

I don't consider this a failure of an adaptation but I am personally extremely disappointed in it.

Episode 24 loses a lot because they didn't include the chapter 16 scene of Annie offering to teach Eren her techniques back in episode 4. It was only two pages that pretty much sets up that Eren knows her techniques really well, and that they've spent more time together beyond what the anime only showed. Then there's the dragging stuff out and changing how things go, adding the stupid "Eren is crushed/impaled, but still let's give him another pep-talk" stuff. In the manga after Mikasa says "the world is a cruel place", Eren thinks for a moment then says "it sure is" then boom, bursts through the ground and uppercuts Annie right through the face. I much prefer him faced with such a grim realization, instead the anime just makes him have a rage tantrum.

I actually feel like I hate anime Eren, even though I still like manga Eren.

Seriously so disappointed the part I wanted to see most was cut (spoilered for scene from above spoiler)

I'm turning into a big complainer :(

If I wasn't spoiled by Toxin, I would have been somewhat surprised by the Female Titan's true identity. She was the only one not present if they do not bring out a new character.

  • Eren - Oda Eiichiro (One Piece)
  • Mikasa - Kishimoto Masashi (Naruto)
  • Armin - Raiku Makoto (Zatch Bell, Animal Land)
  • Annie -Toriyama Akira (Dragon Ball)
  • Levi - Shinjo Mayu (Sensual Phrase)
  • Jean - Sorachi Hideaki (Gintama)
  • Sasha - Hanasaki Akira (Oishinbo)
  • Connie - Takahashi Youichi (Captain Tsubasa)
  • Marco - Sakura Momoko (Chibi Maruko-chan )
  • Hanji - Maya Mineo (Patalliro!)
  • Reiner - Hara Tetsuo (Fist of the North Star)
  • Bertholdt - Hasegawa Machiko (Sazae-san)
  • Krista - Miuchi Suzue (Glass Mask)
  • Ymir - Aoyama Goushou (Detective Conan)
  • Irwin - Araki Hirohiko (Jojo's Bizarre Adventure)

I saw this the other day. It's the goddamn best. Android Annie, Gash Bell Armin, FotNS Reiner and JoJo Erwin/Irwin are fucking amazing.

Edit:

Here have some awesome goofy art Isayama drew:

I don't want to be a whiner but I have some legit gripes with 23. I'm not pleased with the beating-the-dead-horse anime-original scene with the black market dealings. It's executed poorly (all this out in broad daylight?) and just really unnecessary padding.

The second problem is near the end, with Annie blushing and laughing like some crazy person. In the manga she just grins, almost Titan-like, unnerving Mikasa, Eren and Armin, when Mikasa calls her out on being the Titan. She gets an intense look when she goes to bite, but it's not really the same. Your mileage may vary but after having a number of issues with the presentation and direction of the series I just feel super bummed out and I find it harder to ignore.

The page for comparison (spoilers for the end of ep 23, obviously)

He got rope-a-doped.

Also the newest volume release had the best fake spoiler spread yet. Gonna spoiler it because might as well be careful, even though it's just a joke.

@Galenbeta:

I'm not so much mad as I am frustrated. People openly spoiling Titan for no reason or acting like they have to answer people's questions without understanding that they aren't asking PEOPLE for answers, they're actually asking the show. If they want to be spoiled they can do it themselves or will specifically ask. And there's a lot of people who don't understand this.

Any ideas when the manga is gonna resume?

You're better off trying to guess lottery numbers than trying to guess when a hiatus will end. Anime probably has a little over a year worth of material, depending on pacing, left to animate before being caught up, and I read somewhere that Togashi didn't want that to happen. If that's true then he's running out of time.

I need to watch the last week's episode. Supreme Marvel's comments just made me more curious.

Mikasa is getting a manga spin-off, I think?

In each manga volume Isayama puts in some comedy fake spoiler pictures. The one you posted is about Mikasa, sorry, "Mikarin" being an idol. I don't know what everything on the page means, but I do believe it does say "Favorite things: Eren" in the profile stuff on the bottom left. There's also a few more of these, like one of Armin tripping on some stairs and smashing his shin and screaming in pain, and Jean's mom catching him doing something personal in his room.

There is pretty much no safe place to discuss this recent episode except for like...here (because there's not a lot of discussion) and Something Awful (because of heavy moderation). It's a dangerous world for the anime-only viewer who wants to remain unspoiled.

Dog & Scissors » Summer 2013 Trailer: Inu to Hasami wa Tsukaiyo

Haha, I mentioned over in the Giantbomb anime thread that I got the fuck out of this after making it to the end of the opening animation. Will not come back unless everyone starts raving about it a few episodes down the line (unlikely). Plus I have a dachshund and why would I want to watch a show about one, even if it's technically human, getting abused :(

Please add the animation staff to the list of the dead. I'm sure at this point the surviving family members are taking up the the job the no doubt worked-to-death animators have left behind.

I remember reading a while back that this show was having production issues but this is the first episode where I noticed it. It seemed like entire bits were missing during some of the action scenes. Especially crazy because I believe there was a lot of last minute rescuing but with the missing scenes it felt like characters were randomly there all of the sudden. A few times I wondered if I bumped the fast forward button and missed something.

I hope they can get things back in order soon but I get the feeling things are going to be rough like this for a while. They probably would have been better off just chopping this show in half and taking a one season break after episode 13.

Well next episode is a recap, so that should give them some extra time to work on things. Unfortunately I have a feeling these production issues are probably a cause of both time and managerial issues. If they can't use this to get back into a reasonable rhythm then I suspect the problems might be back within 4 or so episodes. It took 5 episodes before the first big time problem showed up, since episode 5 was aired unfinished in some parts of Japan, but touched up for the rest of the country.

Dang, there is a recap episode. Well, I got to do the summary for it.

@rubberluffy:

Oh yeah, that Annie scene was weird. I didn't know what happened. Jean, Annie, Connie, and Marco's scenes are anime exclusive.

Haha holy shit, I'm not even 8 minutes into the episode (crunchyroll) and it's completely obvious this is a rushed out/last minute episode. I had heard they aired an earlier episode incomplete in some areas of Japan (episode 4?), but I think CR got the completed version of that one. But this...the scene around 7 minutes in where Annie rescues Jean is completely not shown. Like, not stylistically, but it just zooms in on her face, she moves a little then it cuts to them all on the roof. Like...what exactly did she do? There's a few other examples (cutting out of an action scene to show a shot of rooftops) and I'm only 1/3rd through the episode.

No wonder there's a recap episode coming. They desperately need any extra time they can get.

edit: There's incomplete art (CGI?) around the 11min mark. Stone bricks that are purple, and some werid green fogginess.

super edit-jin: Episode was much better paced than the previous few. Unfortunately this is definitely one that needs some fixing up for the BD/DVD release. Maybe it already has been for later airings, and CR just got the rushed out early episode?

super edit-jin 2:

Yeah

Despite Keyhole's crappy streaming capabilities, I was able to notice that episode 13 managed to actually have stuff happen! And then more stuff happened! And even a little more!

General Discussion » Jump Stars Victory Versus The Greatest Anime Video Game Ever?

Needs JoJo's Bizarre Adventure characters for me to really care. But that may be an issue since NamcoBandai is already putting out JJBA: All Star Battle this year, and -that- is looking to be a great anime/manga licensed game. An excessive amount of care and fanservice is being put into that. I just hope its gameplay stands up.
