I remember commenting 5-6 episodes back or so wondering how long it'd take for your interest in the filler to completely stop. The thing is the majority of the filler is this kind of bad stuff, or long drawn out staring contests. I guess I'm a little late in telling you to just drop it, since you've read over 700 chapters, but you should just stop following it.You could spend the time reading something you find more enjoyable. I'd say the absolute maximum someone should follow One Piece to see if they like it is to around chapter 100. Even that's a stretch ...

I liked the first and second episodes, so I decided to read all of the manga. I ended up really disliking the plot, characters and the twists that happen throughout. I actually always liked this episode/plot-point. The East Blue Saga is all just to show how different Luffy and his crew are from the rest of the pirates terrorising the sea. I like the fact that Luffy's willing to go out of his way just to help a dog. The Buggy arc is all about different kinds of treasure, so I think it fits pretty well, even if it comes ...

@zaldar: Agreed, I think Lagann-hen's final fight is 10x better than the original series' though. Ippo vs Sendo is pretty high up there too for me.

I avoided Index after hearing a ton of complaints about it, but watched the first few episodes of Railgun. It did seem pretty fun and interesting, after reading this I might get back into it. I think the 2nd series starts today or tomorrow.

There're only so many basic plots that exist (7, 20, 36, and so on depending on who you believe or how specific you want to get) so I can see how changing some things would make One Piece similar to other franchises. I always liked Lunch, I prefer Dragon Ball to Z, so I have a fondness for some of the wacky, lesser characters. Toriyama actually forgot that Lunch existed, literally, she was brought up in an interview and Toriyama had no idea who she was.
