Japan sure can make anything moe (Take for example cockroach Gokicha-chan
-_-) and so that is where squid girl appears, show about a squid girl trying to humans from polluting the ocean while trying to pay back some damages to Aizawa sister's Beach side house/restaurant. Its kinda weird to see a little girl with a squid's fin and mental part hat and tentacle
for hair locks but she is pretty cute with her bumbling around things and her catchphrase of “de geso” (Japanese for
“squid tentacle”) at the end of her lines. There are also other characters like Eiko Aizawa, the restaurant worker who is forcing Ika to work to pay off the damages, Aizawa sisters’ little brother Takeru, who is just there to have fun with Ika, and Chizuru Aizawa, who is by far my favorite due to being voiced by Tanaka, Rie
and for cutting off Ika tentacles, when she was attacking her sister, with bare hands! The look of the series is very warm and colorful since it is taking place at the beach with all of bright blues and cool summer atmosphere but you have to wonder why they are releasing this show in the Fall instead of the summer. Character design are pretty simple but they have lots of animation with works with the eyes. So far this is mainly a comedy with basic jokes and wordplays you come to expect from a comedy anime and the saving the ocean part may not play a major role of this show, which could have work to promote cleaning the shores. Overall it isn't a bad show and if you looking for something to add on your watch list then give this a try.
Squid ink spaghetti anyone?
