Right off lets peek at the trailer for the new NBC show...
Few things of note. The look is pretty spot on. Hey hes blond an a Brit! Now to look at that 2005 movie...
looks was off but Keanu Reeves has the character fairly well pegged. But looked nothing like him. Note the lighter? Yeah NBC says no smoking....
"We’ve known for some time that a cigarette-smoking John Constantine might not be featured in the upcoming Constantine TV show, as producer David S. Goyer previously said it was under negotiation with NBC. Now it seems it’s official – the famously cancer-stricken, chain-smoking Constantine will not be allowed to light up so much as a single cigarette during his self-titled series.
On the surface, one wouldn’t think the loss of a single personality trait would be enough to derail as well-drawn a character as John Constantine, but it really can’t be overstated just how iconic an aspect ofHellblazer John’s addiction is. There’s a reason that the 2005 Constantine film starring Keanu Reeves made sure to retain the title character’s smoking habit, despite jettisoning many other recognizable aspects of his look and background.
Taking away Constantine’s cigarettes is almost akin to taking away Batman’s orphan origin or Superman’s status as the last son of Krypton. It’s an integral part of who he is, one made obvious by the fact that almost any picture of the character includes a lit cigarette dangling from his lips."
Always wondered If NBC has a special unit that just sits an thinks.. how can we screw this up? Code named them S.N.A.F.U.
Any way might check it out. Less enthusiastic to say the least.
Or alternate title "I welcome our new robotic overlords!"
So this is a real thing ..
then I seen this...
So one could drop the robot spiders with drones silently most any where. Fairly quietly to. I mean what could go wrong?
Add this story I seen today.. http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/capital-weather-gang/wp/2014/07/23/how-a-solar-storm-nearly-destroyed-life-as-we-know-it-two-years-ago/ So the take away is " There is a 12 percent chance of a Carrington-type event on Earth in the next 10 years according to Pete Riley of Predictive Science Inc."
So yes the future is always trying to kill us. If mother nature does not kill ya well maybe robots will. Thus live life an enjoy what you can while you can. These days after all are numbered for a reason.
Who knew video games rots you brains.Who knew you had more than one brain? See its not just some bone head at Fox who says this egotistical ignorant arrogant myth that video games cause what ever social ill at the moment.
Never mind studies that show other wise. " Research says video games can prove to be extremely conducive for boosting our critical thinking skills as well. According to Dr. Brian Glass, of the School of Biological and Chemical Sciences at Queen Mary University of London, “Previous research has demonstrated that action video games . . . can speed up decision making, but the current work finds that real-time strategy games can promote our ability to think on the fly and learn from past mistakes.” from http://www.gearfuse.com/video-games-can-help-improve-mental-skills/
Now that might be why they don't want you to have better critical thinking skills. Because if video games does help in that regard then you just might stop thinking these talking heads are experts on what they claim to be. Or that they have your best interest at heart. few years ago even in Entertainment weekly the question was asked "Video games vs. Movies: Have games replaced films as the modern popular narrative medium?" http://popwatch.ew.com/2011/08/18/movies-videogames-inception-red-dead-redemption/
Expect more of this as the summer season for movie under preforms.
The internet diesI Dsl was out for me yesterday. So what does a anime fan do? Pray? Curse the fates an panic? Why yes an then I started watching some anime I had saved for just such a emergency!
1st up finished off on blue ray Soul Eater was down to the last disc any way, but never really seen it all the way threw. Think Excalibur stole the show for me tho. Probably because I would like to yell Baka! as much as he does.Ok that killed a few hours. I use http://www.arcsoft.com/totalmedia-theatre/ as my player on my computer an skiling the intros an end songs an crits were never easier.
Then with no internet an to sick to play any comp games off line I drowned my sorrow in more anime! Black Lagoon + Black Lagoon: The Second Barrage have on blue ray dvd combo an a bloody marathon was off to a high body count start. Seen more an caught more of the subtle use of dialogue an action in the series. From the 1st episode it tells you straight up it knows what it is. Which is to say self aware an does not care. It takes shots at its own dialogue as well as hollywood.
It sets the mood so well with its opening an closing music. A high energy almost metal song at the start to a down sober tune at the end. Kind of telling us when the adrenaline rush has passed whats left is dull remorse an regrets. Which sum up the shows bloody ride. Then I started on Black Lagoon: Roberta's Blood Trail . Never watched all of the series back to back an it flows fairly well. You see character evolution done with insight an history when watching it all together.
This was the MADHouse Studios that I love. Over the top action an animation. None of this over color saturation haze blur style they have had last few years on an off. Clear crisp style an lines all presented with no blur to hide the mistakes. Brutal gore unhindered by lens flair an unapologetic.
For me no time was wasted watching these discs of blue. A satisfying us of time to entertainment ratio. But it does beg the question.... What would you watch anime wise in a situtation similar to this? What anime do you have stored for just such a emergency?
Finally out! An can't afford to get it right off argh! For those unfamiliar http://www.thesecretworld.com/buy/ An for those who never took the faction test to see which faction best aligns with your personality http://www.thesecretworld.com/assets/personalitytest/test.swf
"The Secret World uses a subscription-optional, "buy-to-play" business model, requiring players only to buy the game with no additional subscription fees, with additional benefits to those members still paying a subscription.
In the game, you the player, join one of three worldwide secret societies, and attempt to save the world from a mystical plague and forward your societies agenda over that of the others. The game uses a contemporary setting, borrowing heavily from horror genres and folklore, with a Lovecraftian New England for the novice player, mummies and cultists in Egypt for the middling player, and vampires and werewolves in Transylvania for the higher level player. The gameplay is fast. Unlike in many other MMORPGs, there is no need to stop to use most of a characters special abilities, allowing movement more familiar to FPS gamers. Further, the character is free to redevelop their abilities at nearly any time to better prepare themselves for specific threats or better integrate themselves into a group. Also, unlike in the traditional MMORPG, advancement and potency is primarily through equipment, with player advancement mostly in buying, through experience points, additional abilities and the ability to wield more powerful weapons." from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Secret_World
Word of warning tho.. it is a hard game to learn. The learning curve is high an its a hard game even then. But rewarding with stories you do not find in any other mmorpg, I play on Arcadia (rp) its a role play server. But the games set in the modern day so honestly its hard not to just be natural an role play.
Now the question is does it offer much for the anime fan? Yup. Lots of deep story an over the top anime style. Hell this game could be a great back drop for a GONZO or Madhouse anime. Helsing would fit in this world. It is a mix of some of the better horror fiction of years gone by with old myths woven into a modern age.
