Anime I Saw for the First Time in 2014

This is a list of the anime OVAs, TV shows, and movies I saw for the first time in 2014 to completion.

Goals for 2014:

1. Future Boy Conan

2. Princess Arete

3. Animal Treasure Island

4. Tekkon Kinkreet

5. The Humanoid

(2/15) - Coffee

6. Dark Cat

7. Ninja Ryukenden

(2/22) - Maybe it's because I saw this after The Humanoid and Dark Cat but Ninja Ryukenden actually surprised me at how decent it was. This isn't going to win any awards but Ryukenden is a quality action title that more people should check out.

8. Vampire Wars

9. Garaga

10. Battle Royal High School

(2/26) - Madness! Pure madness!

11. The Wind Rises

(2/28) - There is a lot going on in The Wind Rises and I feel like I need to see the film again before I can finalize my opinion on it. But I'll say this: I think The Wind Rises is much more deserving of the Ocsar than Frozen (or The Croods for God's sake).

12. Sea Prince and the Fire Child

13. Dracula: Sovereign of the Damned

(3/7) - A really great children's film.

14. Black Lion

(3/9) - Thank you Mr. Rathkolb.

15. Frankenstein

16. Only Yesterday

(3/16) - I've never been so captivated by watching characters' faces wrinkle as they talk.

17. Kill la Kill

(3/28) - Right before the credits of the final episode finished I thought to myself, "oh shit...its over." I knew I liked Kill La Kill but I suddenly realized just how much fun I had watching this series for the past 6 months and how much I was going to miss all these characters. Then the video cut to black and it was over. Man what an awesome show!

18. Otaku no Video

(3/18) - Now I know that "Otaking" is a noun and not a verb.

19. Digital Devil Story

20. Twilight of the Dark Master

21. Wild 7

(4/9) - Wild 7 was an incredibly entertaining watch and while the second episode is much weaker then the first I would still highly recommend it to any action fan.

22. The Hard: Bounty Hunter

23. Submarine 707

(4/14) - Why

24. Magic User's Club

25. Twilight Q

26. Princess Nine

27. Rune Soldier

28. Living For The Day After Tomorrow

29. She and Her Cat

30. Eternal Family

31. Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet

(5/22) - A solid show that is hampered by horrible pacing, too many unnecessary characters, and only enough plot for a short OVA series instead of a full 13 episodes.

32. Samurai Flamenco

(5/28) - I really hated this show! Then I actually watched it and realized I was wrong.

33. The Restaurant of Many Orders

34. Shoujo Tsubaki

35. Kimera

(6/26) - Well... That sure was a thing.

36. Comedy

37. Hotori : The Simple Hope For Joy

38. Hell Target

39. Asura

40. Judge

41. Knights of Sidonia

(7/9) - Season 1

42. Ippatsu Kiki Musume

43. Wasurenagumo

(7/20) - The main character of this film is a huge jackass.

44. Short Peace

(7/26) - Favorite shorts: "A Farewell to Weapons" and "Gambo."

45. Mirror's Fundamental Tone

46. TO-Y

47. Magical Sisters Yoyo & Nene

(7/30) - A really pretty movie that really isn't any good.

48. Licca-chan and the Wildcats: Journey to the Stars

(8/2) - Still not as good as Wondrous Yunia Story.

49. Nasu: Summer in Andalusia

50. The Cockpit

Oh, you are a fan of Monthly Girls' Nozaki-kun? That's awesome. Now, we have three fans of the series based on the Gekkan Shōjo Nozaki-kun Discussion thread we have.

@takashichea: Yeah, I've been watching Monthly Girl since it began airing in July. I saw the first episode of a whim and ending loving the show and its characters. Now that its over my Sunday afternoons are going to feel a little empty. Here's hoping that someone eventually licenses the manga!

Would love to see the manga get licensed. My Sundays were Akame ga Kill, DRAMAtical Murder, and Monthly Girls' Nozaki-kun. Now, I don't have a happy anime to balance Akame ga Kill. I haven't seen a darn good comedic show and it gave a different approach to being a mangaka. Bakuman is all about how to be one while Monthly Girls' Nozaki-kun shows how to make manga.

@takashichea: I also liked how Nozaki was just a run-of-the-mill manga artist with moderate popularity. A lot of shows about people who create stuff have the characters trying to become the most successful *blank* of all time or the like. Nozaki can't even draw a house, it made the show a lot more relatable and entertaining. Gunna really miss this show, now I'll need to rely on Blue Blazes for my manga-artist comedy fix.

Oh yes, I definitely agree with that point. That's why he has all that free labor from his classmates. Nozaki that sly man using his friends. Just kidding, he treats his friends well. I never heard of Blue Blazes.

List of Anime Series I watched and dealt with anime

I add Blue Blazes to my list then. Thanks, what's your recommendation on it?

lentfilmson Sept. 22, 2014 at 1:48 p.m.

@takashichea: Blue Blazes is a live-action Japanese drama based off a semi-autobiographical manga by Kazuhiko Shimamoto (may know him as the creator of Blazing Transfer Student). It basically tells the story of the author's time in college trying to become a manga artist and his fierce "rivalry" with Hideaki Anno and the other founding members of Studio Gainax. Real funny stuff, highly recommend it!

Thanks, I definitely check it out!
