I am in love with the musical group Kalafina. They were assembled together by Yuki Kajiura
who writes amazing music, so it only figures their music would be equally as awesome. There were originally four members Keiko, Wakan, Hikaru and Maya. Maya is no longer with the group. My favorite member of the group is Keiko. She sings the alto part. She has a strong, rich voice that really enhances the sopranos.
I found out and fell in love with the group after hearing "Lacrimosa" the second ending to Kuroshitsuji
; it still remains my favorite Kalafina song to date. I'd describe their style as classical pop mixed with synthesizers. Together these girls create gorgeous harmonies which work in tandem. They rotate solos within each song, so every girl gets her chance in the spotlight. Never does one really overpower all the others. I cannot emphasize enough how wonderful this group is and how much I love them. They've released a number of singles, and an album entitled Seventh Heaven. Actually have a new album out called Red Moon. I think one of the most recent songs they could be recognized for is "Hikari no Senritsu" --the opening for So Ra No Wo To. Also, a gorgeous song which shows their lighter, folksy side.
Also, Kalafina has a fantastic costumer who I think should begin mass producing a Kalafina line of gothic lolita-esque clothes similar to the ones worn by the group on stage. I would be the first to pull out my long saved cash for an outfit like theirs. ;)
Other Kalafina fans out there? I know, I'm not the only one. Favorite song? Favorite music video? Seen them live before (I know they were at Anime Boston last year)?
