Pokémon Center » Which is the best starter Pokemon?

Totodile. The only real problem early on with him is the second gym but you should be training up a flying type (likely Hoothoot) by now. The thing is once you get to Feraligatr the moves you can teach to him via level up and TM and the sheer attack power (HP and defense are pretty good to speed could use work) he has will make the Elite Four a breeze and provide a diverse move pool of attack moves with, which to confront an opponent.

@John_Martone:
If you are talking about challenges in the game than yes but the competitive community is really hardcore so to try to rise to the top breeding in the right IVs, natures and moves to min/max your battle team is essential.

Pokémon » First Generation Five Pokemon Sihlouette

@Kelleth: They certainly look to be filling the Canidae pokemon archetype.

@John_Martone:

Yep Slowking was added in Gold/Silver. Instead of letting Slowpoke evolve into Slowbro via leveling you trade the Slowpoke while (s)he is holding a King's Rock. Slowking itself looks kind of like Slowbro except with the Shelder on his head instead of tail, which apparently has the effect of greatly increasing the intelligence of Slowking. (Get thyself to a Pokedex.)

Also they have added a new evolution method each generation. Although the 3rd gen was peculiar for introducing two new and very strange evolution methods and each only applied to one particular pokemon. Being the extremely rare Feebas's evolution into Milotic by having a beauty stat over 170 and than leveling and Nincada evolving into Ninjask via level up and provided the player has an open pokemon slot (on them not in the PC) and a spare Poke ball (any type will do) Shedinja as well.

So I suspect there will probably be some new kind of evolution method here as well.

I used to be really into getting the most out of breeding when I took a small foray into the competitive battle scene. Since proper breeding will allow the passage of certain critical moves to exploit the Pokemon's stat strengths along with inheriting IVs (Individual Values) and natures. I even got into some chain breeding in order to pass certain powerful Egg moves down.

It didn't last that long though since I had other portable games I wanted to play.

@Kelleth:
Oh I wouldn't train it I just load it up with HM's so that whenever I needed something besides Fly and Surf I would only have the burden of those moves on one slot. If I remember right I put Rock Smash, Strength, Rock Climb and Cut on it although Rock Climb may have been Waterfall.

Ya but you still need someone to dump HM's on before you can get the National dex.

That offensive to Ratatta who actually has always been a good pokemon for newbies. They are quick and have a nice attack set, Also a Raticate is even more useful pokemon then Biberal who is just a bigger dumber and even more worthless pokemon, when a Raticate reaches full power it can be an actual fast cart for the trainer with the ultimate combo (Super Fang + Hyper Fang + Quick Attack) it could actually be of use unlike the worthless weak Biberal who just dies in his first turn. and i haven`t even started yet on the nostalgic value. But i regress. still a ZigZagGoon would have been a better comparison.
@Konanda: If it was i would have called it Beaver hate thread.. which i didn`t "

Biberal is good for having as a HM slave though. That's what I did.

Alright I suppose this is acceptable. I thought this was a sly smear campaign on the beaver.

Pokémon » First Generation Five Pokemon Sihlouette

@AgentJ:
Yes but these 10 (technically 11) were added over the course of 3 generations* (2,3,4) meaning that there has been on average three new branched evolutions added each generation starting with the second. In reality the new ones have actually been four branched in 2nd, two branched in 3rd[technically three], three branched in 4th and total branched would raise the 2nd and 4th by 1 to five and four respectfully.

Meaning that it is highly likely there will be pokemon with branched evolution in generation 5. So I wouldn't discount the possibilty that they would give Riolu one, especially given Lucario has become one of the iconic pokemon they have given a large role to in the films and developed quite a bit of mythology behind making it unlikely they would give Lucario a new evolution.

Also if it is to go with the whole dark Ash thing the OP elluded to than it wouldn't make sense with Lucario as his evolution is by having a Riolu with maximum happiness level up.

Having Riolu evolve via a stone, item hold or trade with item would make sense if they associated the object with darkness (ie. a dusk stone) or something similar. This is of course assuming it is related to dark Ash.

*Eevee being the notable exception of being the first branched evolution in the first game and the 5 and 4 in both 2nd and 4th refer to the two new Eevee evolutions each added. Which would technically mean 9[10] in generations following the first.

They've only had multiple evolutions for the same pokemon all of what, twice? Three times? (lets see, Politoad, Belossum, Eevee) Considering its size, Lucario seems more plausible to me. "

Not true branched evolution, while not common has occured at least 10 times. (11 if you count recieving a Shedinja when Nincada evolves into Ninjask while an empty slot is open in your party and the player has an empty Poke ball)

The pokemon that have branched evolution are:

  • Gloom
  • Poliwhirl
  • Slowpoke
  • Eevee
  • Tyrogue
  • Wurmple
  • Kirlia
  • Snorunt
  • Clamperl
  • Burmy

and Nincada if you count the Shedinja bit.

Three of these 10 being new ones that were added in 4th gen (Kirlia, Snorunt and Burmy[who was introduced in 4th gen]) along with Eevee obtaining two new evolutions.

@Kelleth:
My first shiny in Diamond was a Magikarp that I got while fishing that one underground lake for a Feebas.

Also, the beaver is a proud and resourceful animal and I will not stand to have any of you slight the name of such a glorious creature or any depictions of this magnificent beast. (At least the North American Beaver

They form an important function in cleansing pollutants introduced into rivers and in the creation of wetlands. (See Beaver Dam

The furs of these creatures were immensly important during trade in the early days of colonization by Great Britain and France particularly with the Native people of North America.

Yes, Castor canadensis (North American Beaver) is indeed an excellent specimen of the sheer wonder of this world. It is no wonder why the image of this creature is depicted on the 5 cent coin (nickel) in Canadian currency.

What an amazing animal
What an amazing animal

It should also not be a suprise that this representation of pure brilliance and splendor is a national symbol of Canada alongside the equally resplendent Canadian Horse

The beaver is a proud and noble animal as Joe will tell you.

Also this is not a very well known fact but as a passage into adulthood each and every Canadian ventures into the woods to capture and train our own personal pet beaver. They are more loyal than any other animal companion a person could ever have.

 Yes, truly you should see that the beaver is a great animal and worthy of much more than the praise I have just delivered.

Now if you will excuse me there is a beaver that I must go trim and pet. ;)

"I have gotten burnt out on Pokemon. Especially after reading an article 1up.com did months ago with the people in charge of making the Pokemon games pretty much coming out and saying that they make every Pokemon game to be exactly like the old ones, and actually disapprove of innovative ideas in the franchise. I'm just going to hold out for when they finally get off their asses and make a Pokemon MMO, and hope they don't fuck that potentially greatest game ever up. "

Ya it's 5th gen and that makes sense given the system they have of releasing a new generation every 3 to 4 years.

Off-Topic » Lobsters are Immortal

Ah but biological immortality is an interesting concept. Another animal with a quite unique work around on aging is Turritopsis nutricula. A species of jellyfish that after reaching sexual maturity can revert back to the polyp form (kind of like an adult turning back into a child) should the need arise, theoretically allowing it to live forever. However being as small as it is, it's likely to become fishfood instead.

From a series of promo wallpapers some television station in New Zealand released last year for some Alien versus Predator marathon. (There is also one with them playing pool and another playing tetherball) It's about a year old now though so I'm probably going to change it soon.

General Discussion » Follow Up The Previous Picture

@John_Martone:

It's Luo-Lang, you know the bloodthirsty, white, blonde haired and blue eyed guy guy that speaks really stereotypical mandarin, like his other foreign friends and has no desire other than to kill or be killed by a worthy opponent so he can than become more powerful.

Given the huge overtones of xenophobia in that film, I'm reminded of the R.A.C.E. Network in Vexille.

Vexille and friends penetrating the R.A.C.E. barrier.
