This week we celebrated the 20th anniversary of Choujin Sentai Jetman! And weirdly enough this is the first time I actually can buy stuff on-line. So I bought the recently released Jetman set at KO Toys for my birthday. This included Jet Icarus the mecha of the Jetman. And in the light of Jetman's tribute episode in Gokaiger, I will gladly show this thing off ^^
Lets start with Jetcondor the Jetmachine of Black Condor aka Gai Yuuki. The most manly and awesome Sentai hero of them all!! He's the one who returned for this week's episode.... Even though he may have died at the end of the series. This thing is 99% the same as the original toy. The only things that had been changed are a few stickers. Most notable the Jet Condor text line needs to be red.
Jet Swan is the same deal just different wings and a different cockpit. The white kinda sets of the colour scheme of this plane. But between the 3 jet types for the main 5 mecha I do like these the most
Yeah its not official AT ALL. But I like toying with the idea that Gai would help Kaori out because she's afraid again. And the two discover not only a double flight mode but also a tank mode xD
Jet Owl is pretty! That is.... from one side... Yeah apparently the Chinese company that made the KO was afraid that kids would switch around Jet Owl and Jet Swallow. So for each its yellow on the right side and blue on the other side. And Stupidly the numeral stickers where switched too! So I got a stanley knife and switched them around xD Not much else to say here. I do wish they included some claws though much like those used in the series.
I like this one more the Jet Owl. I think its due to the shield of Icarus actually becoming the wings for Jet Swallow. But the shield itself is a bit annoying as the clips that hold it together are uneven. And I am frankly sad that the didn't take the trouble to correct the colour to the actual light blue its supposed to have. Still I can look past all that. I like the cockpit of this one. Especially the point forming a beak. ^^
So much FAIL! I mean man this thing sucks! Firstly I knew it would turn out to be a blocky chunk of plastic with the connectors where the arms a supposed to connect clearly visible. I also knew about the crappy hiding system of said wings. But what I did not know what how messy it is to form it as it is. Its like its missing a whole lot of connection tabs that are supposed to keep everything together. But that ain't the real problem. The head/cockpit is the problem. I know its supposed to turn inside the body but somehow they made it so that the head always tilts down all a bit so everything comes loose as soon as one breathes on it or even looks at it. Lame Red Ranger mecha is LAME!
So this is Jetman's full on homage to Gatchaman! Icarus Haken! Its coo. But putting it together and taking it apart is a bitch to live through. Even if you got the Swan and Condor parts in the cockpit/foot part keeps coming loose so you'd actually have to be very careful picking it up. Also the sticker are reverse on the Jet Hawk part. So it actually looks to be upside down. This has annoyed my so much that I tried to carefully remove the stickers and switch them around. But sadly from the first second it looked to be a failure. the stickers are very thin and the glue is really strong. So I got not choice but to leave it like that!. Unless Reprolabels come out with their stickers I requested like twice now.
Forming the Jet Icarus is not as bad as CCLemon99 claims IMO. I liked putting it together and the steps are fairly easy. But I do agree that this thing didn't deserve to be a die-cast bot. Its pretty fine for a KO btw. The part where metal used to be are pretty solid. Even without the metal. And though the chrome did get damaged on the trip from Hong Kong its still a good grade for a 3rd party company. There where a few annoyances though. Mostly stickers of course. Firstly both feet need stickers. The Condor part needs a white sticker with a vent pattern on it, and the swan part needs a similar vent sticker too. Also the numeral stickers on the arm where switched around. So blue was on Jet Owl and Yellow was on Blue Swallow. Like I said these where easily switched around but where annoying non the less. Putting that all aside I love the design of this thing its so old school! and this before the DaiZyuJin who took a massive leap to mostly non-boxy looking Megazords. I like the blade and shield. But I can't seem to let it hold the damn gun upright with out letting it fall down. So I had to put it like its aiming at the sky.
Overall I am very happy with this buy especially with that great timing of mine :D
Editor's Note: Due to a annoying bug on Animevice I've been unable to use the gallery feature I've grown accustomed to. Which is why I didn't post it when the episode actually aired. Luckily my mother allowed me to finally use her browser and it turned out the bug wasn't around on this thing. So I got to blog it any way. Better late then never I guess.
Though I didn't initially want to post this here as it has nothing to do with anime or manga (except if you count the comics that may or may not exist) and thus there would be no point to it. I did it any way because I was bored. This is part of a blog series that is supposed to only be on my new Blogspot account The Toku Tea Room. To be fair I think I won't be posting any more of these here and just stick to the toy blogs instead and maybe actually work on the occasional anime related blogs I was planning.
The first season of this Thai Sentai aired in Thailand for 16 episodes between 6-8-2006 and 29-11-2006. As this was supposed to be a Thai independent Super Sentai series it had to have a theme to the show that non of the official series had. So they went with sports. This works... Kinda...
Once there was a alien tribe called Star Hunter that traveled through space conquering many planets by stealing life-force from the beings that lived on them with a very powerful item called the King Medal. But the medal wasn't strong enough to absorb all the energy and seeing how they wanted to rule all the dimensions, they made another medal called the Knight Medal. They conquered allot of planets by taking the life-force with the medals. They set their eyes on Earth. But they believed themselves to be so powerful that they weren't prepared when a war on the planet caused bullets and anti-aircraft missiles to hit their ship on its way through the atmosphere. The ship exploded over Alaska and the medals where lost. The tribe decided to retreat for now and make new medals. Some time later the medals where found and taken by two Earth scientists. Doctor Earth took the medal that was broken in to 5 pieces and Doctor Heart took the medal that was still whole. One day their lab exploded and the medal under Heart's protection disappeared.
After this even Doctor Earth noticed that the medal made monsters. So he researched his broken medal and made a ''Sport''detector machine that that can control the 5 pieces of his medal and use 5 henshin devices to apply that energy to 5 special suits that where designed to bring out the special attributes of each of the 5 pieces. He then created the SSS organization and an A.I called Darling that helps the future team. As Zordon and Alpha searched for 5 teenagers with attitude so did Doctor Earth. He needed each member of the team to be very talented at a sport that would bring out the best out of the 5 suits and their respective pieces of the medal. These where: Boxing, Tennis, Soccer, Swimming, and Gymnastics. Luckily he found 4 willing youngsters to fight the monsters but couldn't find a boxer for the final suit
The episode starts out with a shady guy with sunglasses making fun of a Muay Thai boxer in his locker room about losing a match. The boxer is about to punch him but the shady dude promises him power just when he promises the boxer power. He then proceeds to shove a ball of light in to the head of said boxer. Who then curls up screaming in pain and changes in to a volcano-type Kaijin. The newly born kaijin feels the raw power given to him and then proceeds to beat-up and scare the other sportsmen who just happen to walk in after he changed. We then switch to our protagonist of this episode who is asked by an tourist to make a photo of him. And then the Kaijin turns up who of course scares everybody around just by being there. He is quickly met by a guy in a weird yellow uniform who begins to fight him. The yellow stranger says he is going to stop the monster to his wrist watch and proceeds to transform in to Soccer Yellow. Soccer Yellow puts up a valiant fight but alone he can't exactly keep up with the volcano Kaijin. The guy who was mentioned earlier catches yellow and challenges the walking volcano only to have and Mr Satan vs Perfect Cell effect and promptly getting his ass handed to him. The monster mentions that the protagonist was the one who knocked him out in the Muay Thai match and says this is payback for earlier. Suddenly a pink ribbon wraps around the Kaijin's arm to stop him from punching his rival.Turns out the 3 other Sport Rangers have arrived and the 4 combine their powers to temporarily scare away the kaijin. they decide to take the boxer with him to their base and we turn to the evil organization of this season. Who consist of the shady dealer, two glowing KKK-like henchmen and a Great Leader-type eye on the wall. The eye asks the dealer if all goes to plan. The dealer tells him he made a kajin and the red KKK guy congrats him on the plan in process. We turn to the SSS Building which shows the SSS to stand for Sport Searching School. As the unmorphed Sport Rangers watch over the knocked out boxer. Who gets a red morpher apparently to save his live (or something like that) . He wakes up and show to still have some pain. Swimming Blue tells him not to stand up so fast. He asks where he is and Yellow tells him that they saved him and that he is in the SSS building. The Sport Rangers do the wrong thing and rush him in the plot of the series. Telling him that they fight those monsters as Sport Rangers and that they gave him a morpher making him Boxing Red. He apparently takes it in stride and they turn their attention to a screen where the A.I called Darling shows up.
Darling tells ALL of the story and bores them to death. Doctor Earth (who is in a black and silver uniform) says that that he should stay inside and heal his wound for now. Somewhere outside the Volcano guy starts attacking people no doubt searching for Boxing Red. The team gets an alert and movie out. The four change first meet up with the monster who does what I think is a Muay Thai ceremonial pray... That or a lullaby... I dunno... The 4 battle the Puddy troopers of this season and the kaijin but get owned at each turn. At the base Boxing Red can't stand by any more and tells Earth that he's joining the fight. Outside Volcano guy says the lost and Soccer Yellow says that he shouldn't be so sure of that. Turns out red is behind the building and challenges the monster. He transforms an jumps off the building. He easily fights off the putty's and attacks the Kaijin with his special attack: Flying Fists! Red joins the team and they retreat for now. In the villains lair the leader finds out that its now a 5 membered team. He tells the shady guy to work harder and one of the glowing henchmen goes to the now humanized monster and tells him that to keep his power he needs to kill the Sport Rangers. Agreeing to this the KKK villain gives him a power up.
The other 15 episodes are mostly regular monster of the week episodes. They get a mecha around 7 or 9 called the Spirit Robo who is awesome and super detailed. The shady guy turns in to a White Sport Ranger-like villain towards the end of the series but sadly it didn't turn in to a Green/Dragon Ranger-like plot. And in the last episode the series takes a dark turn as 3 of the 5 Sport Rangers sacrifice their lives to stop Doctor Heart who turned out to be the leader of said organization.
Season two has mostly a new cast with only Swimming Blue and Gymnastic Pink returning. And the villains of this season is the Hunter Tribe who have returned to conquer the planet and retake the medals. Apparently there was also a movie made but I couldn't find much more info. In season 2 Doctor Earth changed in to a 6th Sport Ranger who is apparently based on basketball, but I couldn't find any hint at his color. I am guessing White. Also it turns out that Thai law is keeping the series in the homeland So there's little to no chance of seeing this subbed any time soon. The only episode I found that was downloadable was just a 254x345 season 1 episode. Really small and not worth the trouble.
I watched the raws on Youtube. There are NO dvd encodes floating the net sadly. So I don't see this subbed anytime soon. From what I saw (Not heard since I don't know Thai) its pretty good. It was keeping it more to the dark plots of Sentai rather then the lighter side of some Power Ranger episodes. And it didn't have that big of a budget, but what they did with it looked really great. Love the morphers, the suits, and especially the mecha. I am really sad that no one uploaded the encodes from outside of Thailand. I would really like to see it subbed. Though then again I can do without the ear raping Darling who is totally a Mister Voice rip-off btw! Anyway I did see some toys photo's on-line by chance but I found nothing really marketed. This makes me sad because I would really like one of those morphers xD. The opinions of others are mixed from what I saw on Youtube and several English speaking forums these past few years. Some Thai fans argue that the designs are cool but the actors are sub-par. I don't think that's the case. But then again I don't know that since I don't know Thai. The other common complaint is some scene transitions are really badly done. And I think I don't like those either.
Earlier I posted a blog about a series introduced to Thailand via a press conference a year ago. I think its supposed to be a sequel. But I don't know for sure. For the longest time this series was along with Jushi Sentai France Five the only true foreign Sentai production around. (Power rangers doesn't count as they are adaptations!) and I'm glad that's changing. :D
Editor's Note: I think that I did pretty well even though I don't know Thai. This just shows how far one can come to when doing a little research :)
My Jetman set is ordered and it will be here somewhere around this upcoming week. I also ordered one the 3 Gokaiger items I wanted and its already here. So all is well for now. But when I started buying things online we did something wrong. I was interested in a Turboranger item since its from 1989 my birth year. And my mother pressed buy before I could ask questions to the seller. And I thought I canceled the order, But now I'm stuck with it. lol
As you can see it looks nice for something that old. It shows the 5 rangers but not really next to their respective vehicles. It says JR which I think is the company that made the KO rather then a toyline. I say that because nowhere on this box does it show the Toei logo nor the Bandai logo. You'd have better luck finding Waldo on this box.
On the back it show a group shot of the team which is cool. Above that are photo's of the models actually used in the show and on the right is oddly enough the official version of Turbo Robo. If the seller had shown more pictures of the box instead of the crappy 24x24 picture he did use I wouldn't have bought it for this price.
Inside everything seems to intact. Even the sword is there and also the Japanese instruction paper. Which btw shows that its supposed to be like a CandyToy/Miniplay So that's at least something to be happy about. ^^
Lets start with the vehicles for Yellow Turbo and Blue Turbo which are Turbo Buggy and Turbo Jeep. They leave allot to be desired.... Since the KO company was to cheap for Blue and Yellow plastic they made them red and black and as in the DX version they form the feet. So they are really, really, really tiny... But I do like the stickers. They are very detailed and they look accurate. ^_^
Pink Turbo's Turbo Wagon is the brick of the set and seeing how this is just a little bigger then a Candy Toy set is saying something. I wish they painted the windows since I am afraid to do it myself.
Black Turbo's Turbo Truck is so big that it should have been the brick, but when doing to transformation it really does allot, so I'm not calling it that. Again I wished it had stickers for the windows and maybe they could have put a silver sticker up front to highlight the spoiler. But alas cheap company is cheap. Also the red part that was supposed to turn in to the shield is supposed to be white. They should have done that. :/
Red Turbo's Turbo GT is AWESOME!! at least the DX version! xP This is cool to but it doesn't hold up. They could have added black wheels instead of Red and again with the windows, it just annoys me!. The positive thing I can say is that awesome huge T symbol on front I <3 it ^^.
The combined form of Turbo Robo Junior looks cool but messy. Even if you transformed it like 5 times. The arms are in an eternal balancing act and the back panels of Turbo Truck are hanging loosely inside Turbo GT. The left foot is higher then the right since the fin of Turbo buggy doesn't really lock in to place making it stick out like an inch. The Turbo Wagon was annoying as hell I had to split it in two and then I had to open those the parts open too. Which went really slow at first xD. But the most problems I had was ironically with the Turbo GT part of Turbo Robo JR. (which is the easiest part on the DX version) I had to pop the head in to two small pegs while keeping the Turbo Truck parts in place and pressing an additional white piece on the GT. Which I really don't understand because It makes the head pretty much disappear on the bot. Speaking of the head it's really ugly. Instead of making it 1 color they made it red and white.
In two weeks I'll be getting my Jetman set and a new router since the lightning strike broke mine.... Yeah I'll be without Internet for 2 weeks... yay~ :/
My second online buy is an Ebay item. It was fairly cheap at a price of €19.89 with no shipping costs. Which is good because I don't have money for the official version which is from €90 to €127, And I'd rather spend that on more manga instead of 1 figure that isn't posable or diecast. (nor a Sentai mech).
The box is fairly nice for a KO its only it the lighter parts on the top of the box that you can see its printed out differently then you would expect from an official Japanese company like Good Smile. Also I got the Rosario but I keep it in the box because I fear I would lose it.
And the figure itself is also great for a copy. The dress is totally different colour compared to what's presented on the box. And that's something that bothered my mom who liked the colour on the official figure. But in truth I don't mind it that much since its not really a bad substitute red and the paint job is really good for a HK knock-off.
The mirror is good though I don't see the point of it. Even If I was someone who bought this for ''ecchi'' reasons its not much use to me because It so high up in my cabinet it might as well not exist. :P
The cross is also annoying. on the official I noticed its in a totally different place and in this version it likes to go up a little so the cross doesn't lean back. This makes a gap that you can clearly see above.
The hair...... Where to begin.... Okay, lets start with that hair line you see above. I noticed allot of faults in this knock-off and yet I still bought it. But that hairline didn't stand out that much. And now it annoys me a bit. It just looks to much like what it truly is, like two parts someone glues together. It actually looks fine on the official version. It pretty much invisible on that one. Also I <3 Inner Moka's long white/silver hair...... Can I have some more white paint please!?! TO MUCH DAMN PURPLE!!! it looks like Barney's wizz!! :P. I did use some paint on the figure, which you can sadly see in the photo above. The nails where pink and I didn't think it fitted with the colour scheme of the figure. So I painted it white like on the box. Sure it looks messy and my mom or aunt could have done it. But I did it anyway. I can always fix it with acetone when my mom decides its not that great.
Another problem is that the figure is also out of place due to the cross. So Moka's foot is actually over the mirror platform. Its really annoying because now I can't really place it right.
I now have it kinda crooked next to my manga collection. But of course its not really set right because I had just put it back after taking photo's. The manga really rest well against the cross. And despite all its cheap faults its what I bought it for the manga and I like it for that! (Btw at first I liked the anime, but every time I re-watch it and a new tonkabon is released I keep liking it less and less. The manga always trumps the anime.).
Sure I have ordered stuff of the net before but I never actually paid online. For the manga I could just order in advance and pay them at the shop. I still do this to this day. But I never actually got to buy something with paypal and shipping till now.
I was already a plastic addict before I tried this and being online I always see cool cheap stuff I just have to buy. First It was a Gokaiphone and rangerkeys (Which whent unavailable pretty quickly) Then a 2nd grade Turbo Robo (cheap plastic) from Turboranger. Which I changed my mind on because it didn't look that great and the seller wasn't that trustworthy. Then I started planning stuff and finally ended up with a bunch of things I want to get for my birthday, and which I am going to blog about somewhere next month. But for now I planned to go with
So after some mistakes with my mother who didn't trust Paypal as much as I did. But eventually we got some compromise and things seem to go smoothly at the moment.
Its really cool and it didn't take as long to get here as I thought it would. I ordered it from CStoys International a great export shop located in Matsuyama who always to live pack and ship shows on Tuesdays and Fridays if any costumers want to see them packed. When I was watching the show on Friday the 29th it was around 4 AM here and Mr.S the host of the show was showing us some of the last Kamen Rider OOO medals they got from Bandai though a middleman. It was stormy and despite the many close lightning strikes in my neighbourhood I decided to stay up.... Then the tree next to our flat was hit and our power got cut off....
And I had to get to bed with out seeing it being shipped :P
Any way back to the figure, It arrived right on time and despite the fact that the Black RX got about was around 5 more to ship through CStoys then it did on other the sites (I couldn't find it there) My mom did agree that my decision was right. It is one hell of an awesome figure and sadly I don't think my skill as a blogger is enough to fully describe the figure. So here's Internet Personality Vangelus to explain the epicness that is this figure.
While I going to ramble about why I bought it other then all the above ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Yes it started in October 1988 but it ended in September 1989. My birthday episode would be Episode 37 (07/16/1989) which is a fairly decent episode about Crisis ninja's.... Sadly I never watched it with subs that weren't urine yellow and as accurate as a book hand written by a blind alcoholic. But going by the episodes I did watch with good subs by Grownups in Spandex (link will be up later) and the fact that I watched most of Kamen Rider Black - Subbed by Pal from Century Kings tells me the show is as epic as the fact that it seems to be linked to me throughout most of my life. XD
The first time I learned about Kamen Rider Black RX was when I was watching Power Rangers in the Friend In Need storyline. In the 3 episode storyline Saban dubbed RX to be Prince Dex of Edenoi who got his powers from his father. Who wasn't that bad in the story line. But then again it was a bit hazy for me. I mostly remember it from the fact that Kimberly the Pink Ranger was sick and alone... poor Kim. Any way shortly after that Dex got a spin-off and a evil muppet..... O $^%$^$%@# God it was a ^$&$@^%&$ pile of crap. I HATED IT!! I STILL HATE IT!! DAMN YOU OLD SABAN DAMN YOU!! I despise it >_>
I bought this for closure so I can continue loving Black RX now and forever more and forget the shit pile that is Saban's Masked Rider....
Sadly Kotaro is still stuck to Dex who got more and more douchy with every second that passed in the series..... :(
The figure was made in 2009 so technically its a 20th anniversary figure. Though I only thought of that after I got it. The first reason was actually something that's been going on for a long time now. In 1996 I bought a bike which no figure and it stayed without that figure till now.
My Accrobatter is in almost a perfect scale with this action figure. I kept it in *almost* mint condition for this long and all this time the batteries didn't even gave up. Sure I still have no damn Idea what its saying (NO ITS NOT JAPANESE) but it still works fine non the less.
It fits in so well that the legs just barely can touch the pegs which where supposed to support the original figure.
The only pet peeve I have with this figure is the fact that It didn't come with hands that could grab the handles of Accrobatter. Which do come with the much more to scale but more expensive Tamashii Exclusive S.H.Figuarts Accrobatter. And sadly even if they where packed with the RX figure I do doubt they would be able to grasp the handles. So now I just use the concentrated hands of Black RX like he's slightly grasping the handles. I'm not that happy with this because its not that secure at the moment... Maybe I'll get little see-through plastic bands to secure the hands or something like that... That's about it with Black RX. Seems this blog ended up as much of a boring mess as Saban's Masked Rider was. So I'll end it here, by saying that I'm going to blog about what I got for my birthday LONG after my actual birthday and I'll blog about them one by one ^^
I'll just leave you guys with the opening:
See you when I feel like it
