Just Anime » Favorite Anime Movie?

Another really, really good movie is Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust.  It's more recent than the series, but still uses the old style artwork, but updated.

Just Anime » Favorite Anime Movie?

I saw Paprika earlier in the thread, but I think that director's first movie was better.  That movie is Perfect Blue.  Completely insane and ridiculously hard to follow, I've seen it 5 times and still can't piece together the whole story, but that just adds to what is so great about this movie.

Just Anime » What is your favorite anime series?

Well let's see if this story has been told before... It all started with a little show called Dragon Ball Z.  Fortunately I've found better, but I still have that soft spot that only a first can have.  Favorite of all time is Flame of Recca.  Overall it encompasses what I want in an action anime, and get this it actually ends (although the manga goes much further).  That's right its not like yu yu hakusho, dragon ball universe, bleach, one piece, naruto, etc. that just can't seem to cash out.  It's not deep, it's not perfect, but it has dragons made of fire and sometimes that's all I'm looking for.  If we're getting genre specific I have many more, but Flame of Recca I could watch anytime anywhere.

@Luffy:  fair enough, but that's jumping to a conclusion yourself.

anyone else getting the feeling that this person is just trying to make a statement about anime being too similar.... the gothic settings and everyone having telekinetic powers.  i personally don't agree, but if they haven't responded by this time then that's what i'm assuming.

" @rein: You know, I don't consider that hentai, now that I've watched more of it.  Overly sexual by far... but it feels like... "classy torture porn" I dunno, I'm interested to go further, its a little fucked up/weird. "
it's totally fucked and it keeps getting weirder and weirder, but in that way where its acceptable and you almost get desensitized from it and then you just enjoy it.  worth pursuing till the end.

Just Anime » Anime drinking games

lollerz that bleach drinking game does sound deadly.  i'm getting a hangover thinking about it.

Just Anime » Anime drinking games

Since this is of course Anime Vice, why just have one?  Why not multiple vices at the same time?  So I propose this question what is/would be an awesome anime drinking game.  Example: Queens Blade, every time you see tits drink (including intro).  This is going outside of anime, but my friends and I have been playing Bayonetta and we drink every time there's an obvious ass shot.  This is directed at you fine 21 year old and up crowd and doesn't solely have to be related to any sexual behavior either or even a good anime.  Some of the best drinking games come from  laughably horrendous movies and shows.

@Lan: I totally agree with Utena.  It was one of the first subbed anime series I ever got into and really started the love for anime.  If you know anything that even remotely resembles the anime I'd be much obliged.  Seems to be one of those once every 15 years anime that just changes everything.
I've seen most of miyazaki's work and know that there are only a few other directors out there that can tell a story like him.  On the movie's side I haven't seen too many.  The one's I have and liked are Perfect Blue, the more recent one by the same people I forget the name, Akira, Ghost in the Shell, The Utena movie, and The last 4 miyazaki films.

@Black_Rose: Seen almost all of these except yojimbo and basilisk.  I'll give those a shot they sound interesting.  I have been watching anime for about 10 years now so I'm looking more on the less prevalent, and less mainstream anime that's stateside.

@FLCL1: claymore has been one of those I've heard about.  I'll have to give it a try.

The opening in Darker than black: ryuusei no gemini has to be one of the most catchy songs in an anime i've seen.

@Dream: just remembered I tried watching Mushi-shi and really couldn't get into it.  does that get better after the first couple episodes or is it fairly similar?

@Dream: Thanks for the suggestions.  I have seen Lain and greatly enjoyed it.  The others sound like awesome animes and I'll def be looking further into them.

@wwfunderaker: I have seen Berserk and it was really good.  Wish they kept going with the anime though.  If you know others like bersek that would be nice.

@rein: by wanting to be intellectually challenged I was going for more animes that make you think.  most of the time those will also be ones with over the top gore from my experience anyways.  example gantz and akira.

Sidenote - If there are others like One Outs, Akagi, and Chaos:Head those would be cool to know as well.  They fall in the same genre with deathnote and code geass in having a main character with psychological prowess in understanding the inner workings of other people in order to manipulate them.  well chaos:head not so much, that was more just internal monologues and being crazy.  Thanks for the help so far.

I wanted to try and stay outside the highschool realm of things.  I was looking for something with the main characters as adults or if they're kids maybe something as a child prodigy.

maybe gilgamesh.  it's about a post apocalyptic world, and really what anime isn't, where a silver haired boy and his sister travel through the ruins of a city running away from a corporation trying to hunt them down for their telekinetic abilities.  does this help?

Just Anime » suggestions on more mature anime

Let me explain out front I'm NOT looking for hentai.  Instead I was wondering if there were more mature themed animes out there like Monster or Gantz.  The hardest thing I'm finding is I'm growing out of the kiddy themed animes.  I want to be more intellectually challenged with my anime.  And just to throw it out there as well I have seen deathnote and pretty much all of the other big names in anime in the last 10 years.
