Super Duper Mini Review

Chocotto Sister, aka Chokotto Sister and Chocosis, is an anime adaption of the manga created by Go Zappa.  The show was produced by Nomad and directed by Yasuhiro Kuroda.  The show consists of 24 episodes.

Genres: comedy, drama, romance, slice of life
Themes: fanservice, lolicon, meganekko

Plot

The story centers around a Christmas wish made by Haruma Kawagoe after his mother had suffered a miscarriage, followed by an operation which prevented her from having any more children. Several years later, when Haruma is a college student, a woman on a flying motorbike claiming to be Santa Claus delivers his wish, a younger sister. When he remarks that he made his wish a long time ago, "Santa" replies that making a little sister takes a lot more time than just making an android, takes his signature for delivery, and departs. Haruma now has a little sister, who comes with her own instruction manual—a manual for how to be a little sister, that is. When she asks him to name her, he calls her Choco, which refers to the Japanese word for "manual".

Pros:
  • A fun/charming atmosphere to the show.
  • An enjoyable cast of characters.
  • Solid OST and great OP/ED.
  • A goofy sense of humor even though it can be perverted at times.

Cons:
  • No real conclusion at the end.
  • The animation can be stiff at times.

If you are looking for a new slice of life show and don't mind fanservice or lolicon, I say check it out.  Unfortunately, the show isn't in any English speaking territories, so the only way to watch it is with fansubs.

What's a Super Duper Mini Review? Well, since I'm taking a break from written reviews, I decided to put a short list of what I liked and didn't like about the shows I review and from time to time, put down some notes and fun facts. For some info about the show like genre, plot summary, etc., I borrow some info from Anime News Network, Wikipedia, and of course our wiki here on Anime Vice.
