El Cazador de la Bruja, aka The Hunter of the Witch, is an anime original directed by Koichi Mashimo.  The show is produced by Shigeru Kitayama and Mamiko Aoki, written by Kenichi Kanemaki, music by Yuki Kajiura, and animated by Bee Train.  El Cazador is a spiritual successor of Noir and Madlax and the final installment of Bee Train's "girls with guns" trilogy.

Genres: adventure, drama, mystery, supernatural
Themes: girls with guns

Plot Summary

Ellis, a young girl suspected of murdering prominent physicist Heinrich Schneider, is on the run from prosecution when she is tracked down by a female bounty hunter Nadie in a small Mexican town. However, instead of turning her in, Nadie impulsively decides to help her and the two embark on a journey south where they hope to find clues about Ellis' past. The guiding stars of their journey are the mysterious gemstone "Rosa del Inca" and the "Eternal City" of Wiñay Marka.

Pros:
  • Two enjoyable leads and a solid supporting cast.
  • A really neat atmosphere with a mishmash of western and modern day with some supernatural elements thrown in there as well.
  • While dark in some spots, the show has a fun tone to the show.
  • Great humor when used.

Cons:
  • The show has an episodic felling to it, but because of it, the story takes a little bit of time to develop.

If you are a fan of the "girls with guns" genre, just like some gun shoot'n action, or just want to have a good time with a new show, definitely give it a shot.  The show is available to watch on Hulu if you live in the correct regions.

What's a Super Duper Mini Review? Well, since I'm taking a break from written reviews, I decided to put a short list of what I liked and didn't like about the shows I review and put down some notes and fun facts as well. For some info about the show like genre, plot summary, etc., I borrow some info from Anime News Network, Wikipedia, and of course our wiki here on Anime Vice.
