Continuing my adventures through anime, next stop was Kannagi: Crazy Shrine Maidens
, a romantic comedy with more comedy then romance and has some supernatural stuff thrown in there as well. Going in without knowing anything, this anime caught me by surprise. How should I say this? I really enjoyed it. I lot more then I thought I would.
Jin, our main character.
While the core story was interesting, it can be kinda forgivable. What drew me into the shows were the characters and the comedy. Jin
, Tsugumi, Daitetsu, and Meguru were the best characters of the show in my book. And as for a comedy, there was a bunch of great stuff. One memorable thing would happen to be in episode nine when rumors are going around the school that Jin and Daitetsu are gay with each other. After seeing a heated discussion between Nagi and Daitetsu about Jin, Tsugumi and the other members of the Art Club started questioning themselves about the true nature of Jin and Daitetsu's relationship. Meanwhile Tsugumi starts talking to Takako in the halls and ends up yelling about Jin and Daitetsu being homo with each other which start the rumors through the whole school. Through out the episode a bunch of goofy stuff happens, making it one of the best episodes of the show.
Nagi, Zange, and Tsugumi
All and all, I thought this was a great show. While the story was kinda weak, the characters and comedy stole the show for me. If you are looking for something funny, goofy, and over the top, give this show a try. There are only 13 episode and 1 OVA. The show is watchable over at Anime News Network
if you want to check out the show legally.
My Score - 4.5/5
After I finished watching the show I was going to look up some more info about it on Wikipedia. When I was over there I noticed that the manga was currently on hiatus. Apparently the author, Eri Takenashi, was very sick and unable to continue the manga. After she got better she announced that she was going to take a year off before continuing the manga. Hopefully the manga will pick up and continue soon and one day maybe I will read it when it's completed.
Bye Bye for now! It's 2:20 in the morning. :-)
