Super Duper Mini Review

 Don't mess with Chrono.
 Don't mess with Chrono.
Chrono Crusade, aka Chrno Crusade, is an anime based on the manga of the same name, which was written by Daisuke Moriyama.  The show has 24 episodes and was produced by Gonzo.

Genres: action, adventure, comedy, drama, romance, supernatural
Themes: demons, girls with guns, historical, religion, sad, tragedy

Plot Summary

The year is 1928 A.D. The place is New York, U.S.A. The economic prosperity brought forth after the Great War also heightened the presence of something far darker and much more sinister: the demonic Sinners. The Magdalene Order is an organization that tries to counter this force. Two of its exorcists are Rosette Christopher and her assistant, Chrono. Both appear out of place in an organization like this, and they are in a quest to find Rosette's missing brother, Joshua. Their relationships, secrets and fates can only be revealed in time...

Pros:
  • A solid cast of characters.  Really enjoyed the main baddy.
  • The 1920s with a splash of supernatural themes makes the show have a neat atmosphere.
  • Neat concepts used with the whole supernatural thing.

Cons:
  • Not a fan of the ending.  The ending reminds of the ending of the Negima! anime and the Kurokami anime.  If you have seen those shows, then you know what I'm talking about.  Don't want to get into depth to avoid spoilers.
  • The show took me some time to get into it.

Neutral:
  • While some of the soundtrack is solid, the other half sounds like it's from some Saturday morning cartoon.

If you are a fan of shonen fantasy/supernatural action shows, I say give it a try and see how you like it.

 Ellis (Left) and Nadie (Right)

Plot Summary

The guiding stars of their journey are the mysterious gemstone "Rosa del Inca" and the "Eternal City" of Wiñay Marka.

Pros:
  • Two enjoyable leads and a solid supporting cast.
  • A really neat atmosphere with a mishmash of western and modern day with some supernatural elements thrown in there as well.
  • While dark in some spots, the show has a fun tone to the show.
  • Great humor when used.

Cons:
  • The show has an episodic felling to it, but because of it, the story takes a little bit of time to develop.

If you are a fan of the "girls with guns" genre, just like some gun shoot'n action, or just want to have a good time with a new show, definitely give it a shot.  The show is available to watch on Hulu if you live in the correct regions.

 Shikabne Hime
 Shikabne Hime

Makina Hoshimura
Makina Hoshimura
Corpse Princess, aka Shikabane Hime, is an anime based on the on going manga of the same name, which is written by Yoshiichi Akahito.  There are two seasons which consist of 25 episodes total.  The show is produced by Feel and Gainax and it was directed by Masahiko Murata and written by Sho Aikawa.

Genres: action, supernatural
Themes: girls with guns, priests and priestesses, troublesome teens

Plot Summary

The title "Corpse Princess" belongs to Makina Hoshimura, an undead girl who seeks to hunt down 108 corpses in order to go to heaven.

Pros:
  • A great cast of characters.
  • A fantastic griddy atmosphere established.
  • Tons a great action packed/gun shooting/over the top/gruesome battles.
  • Lots of interesting concepts that kept me hooked.
  • A nice twist on the whole partner system that many shows have.
  • Really goofy, yet enjoyable humor when used.

Cons:
  • The ending is kinda erupt.

If you are looking for a new action/supernatural show with some gore, definitely check this show out.  If you like shows like Shakugan no Shana, Fate/Stay Night, or Kurokami (Black God), then you will dig this show.

 Kuro
 Kuro
Kurokami, aka Black God and aka Kurokami: The Animation, is an anime based on the ongoing manga of the same name, which is written by Dall-Young Lim and illustrated by Sung-Woo Park.  There are 23 episodes and one OVA created by Sunrise.  The show was directed by Tsuneo Koboyashi and written by Reiko Yoshida.

Genres: action, drama, fantasy

Plot Summary

In this world, there are three identical looking people in existence who split between them an energy-like force called “Terra.” This energy can be attributed to the amount of “Luck” or “Life Energy” that an individual possesses. There also exists beings who observe the human world, maintaining the balance of Terra, known as the “Coexistence Equilibrium.” These beings possess ability that surpass that of a normal human being and reside in hiding in places known as the “Pure Place” in tribes. They are called the Terra Guardians. This is a tale of battle that begins with a chance meeting between a human boy named Keita and a young Tera Guardian girl named Kuro.

Pros:
  • A solid cast of characters.
  • The art style kinda has a dark/griddy feeling in some spots and light/happy in some spots.  It was a nice blend of the two.
  • Really interesting concepts used in the show like the Doppeliner System and the whole contract thing was neat.
  • Tons of fight scenes through out the show which aren't to shabby.
  • Some nice twists as the show progresses.

Cons:
  • A slow start.
  • While some of the twists were nice, some of them have been done before.
  • Some events in the show were predictable.

Fun Facts & Notes:
  • In the manga Keita is a 19 year old freelance computer programmer.
  •  The manga is created entirely by a Korean manhwa team led by both Lim and Park. They would occasionally make fun of the fact that none of them were fluent in Japanese in omake segments drawn at the end of each manga volume.

If you are into modern day action/fantasy shows like Shakugan no Shana or Fate/Stay Night, I say give this show a try and see how you like it.

Super Duper Mini Review

 Kobato.
 Kobato.
Kobato. is an anime based on the ongoing manga of the same name, created by CLAMP.  There are 24 episodes produced by Madhouse and directed by Mitsuyuki Masuhara.  The show originally aired in late 2009 and finished in early 2010.

Genres: comedy, fantasy, romance, slice of life

Plot Summary

Kobato is a girl who came to earth to fulfill her wish, which is to go to a certain place. To fulfill that wish, she has to find a bottle and fill it wich scarred hearts. Together with her "teacher", which is a stuffed animal, she search for the scarred hearts. However she may not fall in love with any person whom she cures the heart of.

Pros:
  • A charming cast of characters from the super cute Kobato to the long wolf type Fujimoto, it was a great cast.
  • Very colorful and vibrant world in Kobato.  From the characters to the settings, it's great.
  • A very cute and charming tone to the show that makes it light hearted and fun to watch.
  • An enjoyable happy ending.  Not sure if it's in the manga or not, but I liked it.
  • I guess this is a CLAMP thing, but it was neat to see other characters from other CLAMP works.

Cons:
  • Gets a little to dramatic with simple matters at times.

For people that are looking for a fun and charming comedy/slice of life show and don't mind the show being very cutesy often, I highly recommend this show.  While there is some romance, it really doesn't happen till the last few episodes so if you want to watch this for the romance, just be aware of it if you decide to dive in.
