Super Duper Mini Review

Birdy the Mighty Decode (aka Tetsuwan Birdy: Decode) is an anime adaption of the Birdy the Mighty remake manga.  Birdy the Mighty: Decode consists of two seasons and one OVA, which were produced by A-1 Pictures.

Show Info

Genres: action, science fiction

Themes:

alien, body switching, gender switch, space

Plot Summary via Anime News Network

Federation investigator Birdy chases the space criminal Geega through space to Earth, where he hides in the entertainment industry under a human disguise. Birdy goes undercover herself, posing as famous model “Arita Shion” that often uses a ‘space girl’ look. A male student, Senkawa, stumbles upon a fight between the two one night in an abandoned building only to be severed in half as he is used as a shield by Geega against Birdy. Birdy heals him from imminent death in some fashion- but Senkawas body, and life, are now changed and permanently linked to Birdy.

Pros and Cons

Pros:
  • An entertaining cast of characters.  Great main characters and lots of great side characters.
  • Enjoyed the mix of modern day Japan and Sci Fi.
  • Some flashy action scenes that look great.
  • Liked their own sci fi concepts that were present in the show.

Cons:
  • While it didn't bug me that much, the second season really didn't need to get dark.  The first season was a fun and entertaining show with some drama and goofy atmosphere.  The second season gets darker with a more serious tone and has lots of gore.
  • The show ends with no clear ending whatsoever.

Final Thoughts

A fantastic action/sci fi show set during modern times.  Just wish there was a better ending in season 2.

Who is this for?

If you are a fan of the sci fi genre and don't mind a goofy atmosphere, definitely check it out.  If you want to check it out, the first and second season are available to watch at Hulu.

Q: What's a Super Duper Mini Review?
A: Well, since I'm done with long, written reviews for now, I decided to put a short list of what I liked and didn't like about the shows I watch.  For some info about the show like genre, plot summary, etc., I borrow (mainly copy and paste  :P) some info from Anime News Network, Wikipedia or the Anime Vice wiki.  So people wont think I'm plagiarizing, I do post sources.

Q:  Why are these blogs so short and half assed?
A:  Well, I want to put in as little effort as possible.  Why?  Cause I'm lazy.

Q:  Do you care if people don't read these?
A:  Kinda.  One of the main things that keeps me making these things is so I can spread the word of shows/mangas that people aren't aware of.

Q: Sometimes there a few or no cons, does that mean the show is perfect?
A: No.  Usually when I make these, I like to highlight the things I liked more then the negatives.  I'm one of those people who enjoys just about anything as long as it's entertaining.  I can easily look past a show's faults if I find enjoyment from it.  Remember, nothing is perfect.

  • Loved the griddy "Portuguese " style atmosphere.

One kid, lots of girls.  Who would have thunk it?

Nagasarete Airantou (Cast Away... Airan Island when translated) is an anime adaption of the on-going manga, which was created by Takeshi Fujishiro.  The anime was produced by Feel and Starchild and directed by Hideki Okamoto.  There are 26 episodes.

Show Info

Genres: comedy, romance
Themes: harem

Plot Summary via Wikipedia:

Nagasarete Airantou revolves around Ikuto Tōhōin, the main protagonist, who ran away from home because of a fight with his father. Due to a life-long dream of wanting to board a ship, Ikuto decides to take a vacation on a cruise ship; the ship is suddenly hit by a huge storm, throwing Ikuto overboard. He wakes up the next day to discover he is on an uncharted island populated by girls. Ikuto finds himself to be extremely popular on the island, due to the fact that no other men currently live there. As a result, nearly the entire island starts pressuring Ikuto to become their husband — all except a young girl named Suzu and her extremely old grandmother. Suzu's grandmother decides that Ikuto will live with Suzu for the time being, but Ikuto initially finds it difficult to adjust, especially with the entire island population after him night and day. Meanwhile, Suzu does her best to protect Ikuto from the masses. However, Ikuto still does not want to stay on the island, and soon after arriving, he attempts to leave by boat, but discovers the island is completely surrounded by whirlpools and tornadoes, eliminating escape by sea or air, thus impossible to leave. With no other choice, Ikuto starts to settle into life on the island.

Pros and Cons

Pros:
  • A wacky cast of entertaining characters.
  • The goofy/wacky sense of humor was fun.
  • Enjoyed the not-so serious tone of the show.

Cons:
  • No real plot development.

Final Thoughts

It was a fun, lighthearted, goofy, and entertaining harem show.  It may not had any plot development, but that didn't ruin it for me.  I don't mind episodic shows.  All in all, it was a fun watch.

Who is this for?

If you are a fan of the harem genre, I say give it a shot and see what you think.  Just don't take it too seriously.

So I finally got around to playing Kinect.  Like most people, Kinect Adventures was my first Kinect experience.  So what did I think about it?  It was OK.  The Kinect sensor worked better then I thought it would and I was impressed.  Not a fan of the Kinect menu navigation.  Would rather have the option of using a controller to navigate in game menus.  At least you can use the guide with a controller.

So why does Kinect Adventures hate me?  Well, take a look at these.

Oh god...  KINECT, WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO ME!?

Also, this happened...

So it's official.  Kinect Adventures made me a dumbass.  I HATE YOU KINECT ADVENTURES!!
