LOL Man service, I have never heard that before. Being a straight male I don’t even know what women would call man-service. I’m guessing shirtless guys or bishonen dudes but what would compare to the generic panty flash (balls flashing would just be wrong) Im not even going to act like I know what women want (you can ask my ex girlfriends that) Also I have always questioned “what is the appeal of yaoi?” I always thought it was the fact that the men act or feminine was the appeal.
I read your blog on the matter of fan-service and I understand how you feel. Now-a-days they are trying too hard to appeal to the male otaku (in Japan) that they are alienating the female fans. Take a look at any figure sold, any popular show and any top selling product on J-List, it’s all hyper focused on male otaku and that is wrong. At the turn of the century female otaku make up also half of the market (just go to any convention and you can see that) but for some reason they are not trying to capitalize on this (other than by selling more chibi character cellphone straps and yaoi) maybe it’s because the Japanese market is always 2 years behind what the smart thing should be.
O! And my last question before I forget, how do women feel about the whole loli thing and anime? Is it something that they look at as “weird anime creepy stuff for pedos” or “whatever its anime”. (when it comes to anime I just take a lot of the weird stuff as “whatever that’s just anime for you” and don’t think much about it)
