Ultimately the best are ones that combine elements of both.
My personal favorite example of such would be
Treize Khushrenada:
At first glance he looks like your typical bishie, but with the way he messes with everyone's heads till the very end, fights with honor, challenges an Asian at sword-fighting and wins, and can even pilot
a mobile suit well enough to lead a commando unit? That's just 4 types of manly right there.
Such qualities are usually associated with the "Magnificent Bastard" archetype - someone who seems full of himself with a perhaps pompous attitude and/or good looks, but at the same time can back it up and isn't really that bad underneath.
Zechs and
Char would also most likely fall under this categorization, though Treize is still superior than them since he keeps his bishounen traits in check, and he also doesn't lose his cool even when a situation looks grim (even Char has done that more than a few times).
