Elias suppressed a smile. Now they were in danger, now they wanted their help. Those who once rejected the their claims to stay on this Earth, or demanded the abandonment of their technology and culture, now wanted them to stay and defend them.
And once the threat was gone, the Astartes would no longer be desired. The tech priest's cathedrals would be turned into common factories, and the inquisitors declared an invasion of privacy. It was the same story over and over again, and these humans had just proved themselves to be no different than any other planet he'd conquered.
But. Mother had told him to be diplomatic and let Earth be Earth, and it was serving him well. He'd been right to trust in his instincts in allowing the intruder to speak. This was important, useful information and several cards into his hand as well as raising the stakes extremely high.
This was quickly turning into a situation where Elias and his 10,000 were not refugees looking for a place to stay, but mercenaries naming their price.
Clair was also following what this new information meant for the negotiations. War was coming, and if you can't make money off a war then you just flat out can't make money, so to speak.
Jaqueline, however, frowned. This was too convenient. Someone planned this and she was starting to doubt that Shisha was the only one in on this play. "Did you plan this?" She quietly asked Jardsam.
"I'm just enjoying the show." Jardsam replied. He was experiencing this for the first time and had no idea what route this meeting would take. He knew coming here today would turn out to be entertaining.
