Just wait until you get to episode 4 (chronologically). You'll see how this is my favorite series :3

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya » I love this show

Yeah, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya was what really got me into anime. After watching it through, I immediately bought every DVD and have read every light novel as well. I think I've re-watched it at least 10 times now (no joke, I have the entire series on my PSP).

you can't look for users via the search field in the upper right. however, if you head to your profile pm inbox and select "compose a message" you can search for users via the "to" field."
Ah ha, thanks! I assume this method can also be used on GiantBomb and ComicVine as well?

General Discussion » Learning japanese?

To be honest, it's really hard to learn the entire language via online lessons and stuff.

Hence, I'd invest some time and money in some classes that don't necessarily have to be from school. After learning the basics, phrases and words naturally get picked up when exposed to Japanese (via anime, media, etc).

Of course there's the option to live in Japan for a while (which I'll be doing for 6 months in 2010). More exposure = more knowledge.

Once you have that down, Japanese isn't as hard as other languages I've experienced. Good luck :)

General Discussion » Anime Vs Manga

It all depends. If the anime is based on the manga (Elfen Lied for example), then the manga experience will usually be more fleshed out.

However from my experiences, manga adaptations of animes (based on light novels) aren't that great...

Off-Topic » Your favorite Jrock-pop bands?

Hmm... I don't really have a favorite JRock band. However, my music players are all filled with Japanese music - mostly from anime OSTs and soundtracks.

To be honest, the only ones I know are:

  • Glay
  • X Japan
  • Gackt
  • Guitar Wolf
  • Acidman
  • Janne Da Arc

...and I'm not really sure if you would classify some of them as JRock.

I'll definately check out the bands you mentioned though :)

Battles » Ash and Gary vs Yugi and Kaiba

Slinger said:
"Ash and Gary FTW. Ash has taken heaps of abuse in the form of errant flamethrowers and thunder-shocks and has shaken it off, any thing Yugi can throw at them with his weak wrists will pale in comparison. Kaiba is a rich kid pretty-boy who'd be more afraid of breaking a nail to throw a proper punch, and Ash and Gary both have been hardened by years spent living on their own out in the wilderness. Not to mention Ash and Gary have spent much of their time studying battle strategies while Yugi and Seto have spent their time studying cardgame strategies, they don't really compare."
Are you kidding me? Think of all of the finger muscles you develop constantly shuffling and placing cards down. The constant yelling they do with everything is also a sign of how physically fit they are.

Just Anime » First subbed anime that you ever watched.

My eyes were opened to anime just last summer, which is coincidentally the time I started to watch subbed anime instead of the (usually) crap they air on TV.

The first anime I watched subbed? - The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. It snowballed from there.

Such an awesome Pokemon.

I think I actually made a poem about Snorlax in Elementary School. Of course, the teachers made me write another one...
