I think it was in middle school when I remember all my classmates starting to pick up Dave Barry, as I did. I love the man's columns. They're absolutely hilarious in their complete lack of pretension...except when Barry's making fun of pretense and presumption. From
Barry's blog:

It's GULLZILLA!
You know, even though Barry doesn't write a regular newspaper column anymore, he does a lot of other stuff. He's in a band called the Rock Bottom Remainders, with a star-studded roster...of writers: Stephen King, Amy Tan, Mitch Albom, and Ridley Pearson.
Speaking of Ridley Pearson, did you know that Dave Barry has been writing a series of prequels to Peter Pan with Pearson, starting with
Peter and the Starcatchers? I wasn't aware of it until a few years ago when my then-boyfriend took me down to see Barry speak in Portland, and it turned out to be about the book in question-- which I bought and had autographed on the spot. Really fun YA fiction (emphasis on the Y), definitely recommended for Pan/fantasy fans who speak kidlit.
