Dragon Ball » DBZ Hate

@sickVisionz: I agree with everything you said. I actually feel special having grown up when Toonami was popular and experiencing DBZ from an elementary-middle schooler's perspective. I can't possibly rewatch the show and hold the same appreciation as a 20-year-old. I've always felt some people just missed out on the phenomenon and hold this anti-DBZ ground.

I'm sure most of them don't hate the show, it's that they weren't around during its peak in popularity (in the US) to understand why some people love it so much. I actually find myself wondering how some anime enthusiasts can possible watch Naruto or One Piece, but then I realize that by the time those manga/anime were popular in the US, I was entering high school and was out the anime loop.

General Discussion » Do you remember your first....?

First Anime: DBZ, though I didn't really get interested in anime until I saw the remastered version of Akira in 2001
First Manga: Dragon Ball

Crunchyroll » gundam gone on crunchyroll

@Karkarov: That explains there being a little teaser at the beginning of each episode.

Crunchyroll » gundam gone on crunchyroll

That's strange. I haven't read anything about there being an issue with the streaming deals of those shows. I just checked YouTube and the original Mobile Suit Gundam and Zeta Gundam are gone from there as well. Gundam Wing, Seed, and 00 are still there though. I wonder why they decided to pull just those two shows.

Just Manga » The First Manga You Read

I want to say Dragon Ball was my first because I remember having a few single 30 page issues back in the early 2000s. This was before manga had its own section in most book stores.

Battles » Tetsuo vs Piccolo

I'd say it's pretty easy to say that neither would win in the end. Tetsuo at full power would simply absorb everything around him. At that point, it's basically impossible for anyone to stop him except for Akira and the numbers. If Piccolo tried to attack him, that would only anger him and his power would continue to grow and he might accidentally destroy the planet.

Just Anime » Bang Zoom! President Calling Anime Fans Thieves...*sigh*

@John_Martone said:
" Yeah, this is pretty much the news of the day. It really seems like he's more upset at an evolution away from high cost dub production (with companies like crunchy roll working entirely on digital distribution, with no rights) while other companies like sentai filmworks (former ADV) are working almost exclusively with sub only to help keep costs and turn around times. "
That's what I find funny actually. He's not directly involved in the anime industry, has no clue about the real problems the industry is facing, he's simply pissed because distributors can't afford time in his studio anymore. Typical selfish executive.

Just Anime » Bang Zoom! President Calling Anime Fans Thieves...*sigh*

In a post on GoAnimeTV, Bang Zoom president Eric Sherman uses the old 'you wouldn't go into a supermarket and put a package of swiss cheese under your shirt and walk out without paying' gag to try and make us feel like terrible criminal.

I hope I speak for some of you when I say, I would go into a supermarket and steal a package of swiss cheese if the only swiss cheese I could afford tasted like crap and the good kind was $8 a package.

His posts reminds me a lot of the crisis the music industry faced at the turn of the century. You'd think the anime industry would be well aware of the history of digital content and piracy to the point that they would WANT to create a solution that would benefit them instead of crying and attacking their fans like the music and movie industry did.

Otaku in Review has a pretty good commentary on the post:  http://otakuinreview.com/blog/2010/4/26/rip-bangzoom.html

Completing the Gateways and Genres quest helped my searching skills for this one. Got it done a lot quicker than I thought I would. Thanks to all the people giving good clues.

Quests » Gateways and Genres *no spoilers

@ilikewhiterice: I know, I've actually heard of the series before too, but I blanked on the "type of jam" clue.

Glad I was able to get that out of the way. Props to the OP for the clues, I would have never gotten moe #3 and all the romantic ones without the help. Also finished #48! ^_^
