Bug Reporting » Getting Error Message

1. What browser are you using?

Firefox 5

2. What Operating System are you using?

Windows VISTA

3. What is the exact link to the page you are having a problem with?

Episode Pages

Alice Maresato & Zeke

Details, details, details. Explain it in details

This is a new bug that I've been expereincing over all the Anime Vice wiki pages.I've linked a few specific pages. I've tried this with both text editors, so I know it's not related to that.

As I'm working on these pages, I suddenly see this "Error" flash.

It appears briefly on screen then disappears, but once it's gone I'm still in Edit Mode but the tool at the bottom disappears.
As you can see in this image, I'm still in Edit Mode, but the Save/ Canel/ Mod Note segment is gone. I have no way to save any of the edits I make. It's been happening a LOT, and in the process I lose all the edit work I make. I have to reload the page to edit.

To do One Piece Ep. 505, I have to write all the information down one paper and edit little by little and save every few minutes.

I ran an experiment over on Giant Bomb. I put it on Edit Mode on a page and left it on. Ten minutes in and no Error. I wanted to see if this was an issue with my system, but it seems exclusive to Anime Vice.

General Discussion » How much do you like Dragon Ball Z?

I actually prefer Dragon Ball over Dragon Ball Z + DBGT. These felt more like an artificial extension of the core Dragon Ball story.

The original series was an adventure/comedy series that was a parody of Journey to the West. It was all about a young Goku's journey and to have adventures as he trained for the World's Martial Arts Tournament, It then became Dragon Ball Z. Suddenly, Goku was now an alien, when in the original he was just an odd boy with a tail. It all just became about the superpowers and battles. The adventure was gone.

Congrats FoxxFireArt! You were a patient man who told me twice or more on the wiki style format for characters and the episodes with examples and links. You were a man who appreciate culture and diversity, and you embrace the Japanese language with your lessons. When I needed help with Romanji, you were there. When I working on the Sarashi object page, you are the one who inspired me to create it and helped me with Piface314 at Midnight (late at night).

I try to spread the work about the wiki work for every hard wiki editor because some of these men and women were my teammates on my wiki projects. Go Anime Vice's Wiki Editors!

*I think I saw some of the Anime Vice Spotlight pages' info on different websites.

(sorry about the belated congratulations. I was trying to come up with a unique comment)

Thanks for such a heartfelt comment. Glad I could help out. I try to help out new users feel welcome and ready to be a part of the community. Really, pushing this as a sort of Facebook/Wikipedia dedicated to Anime is a strong selling point. With an exception of not selling your personal data. Anime fans just need to learn about it. We do that by posting pictures, filling the wiki, and getting word out there for anime fans to check it out and join.

Some of your sentence tense in that second sentence was kind of funny. The use of the past tense at time reads like an obituary. "You were a patient man-" lol

Somehow I inadvertently wound up making the wiki style for Anime Vice. I recently had someone write on my wall. A new user who wrote

" hi! I check your site. Black Lagoon looks badass. "

It seems that I not only introduced someone to Anime Vice, but also to a new series they probably never heard of. Though, the person is under the impression that the site is mine. lol.

I totally agree... Without Foxx's amazing Modding skills and knowledge in anime the site would not be what it is today!

I hope Ethan and Daniel are catching this. lol

Bug Reporting » New Editor Bugs in Here

@gpbmike:

I have some more bugs for you. I'm using Windows Vista and the browser is FireFox 5(yeah, suddenly they made it 5). I was having this issue on Black Lagoon franchise page. Though, this is happening on all large pages that I've been editing on.

Recently, if I cut and paste any text on a page. The editor sort of flashes and then I'm automatically sent to the bottom of the page. This is an odd twist when the former text editor would shoot me tot he top of a page after pasting text.

Review Editor Bug

I was working on a new review (my first using the new editor). When I would make links. I noticed that no options would appear on the linked text when I click on them. How the normal linked text will say [Go To Link / Remove / Change]. This wouldn't appear at all.

When I was adding images. No options would appear for the pictures. In the images below you can see the catalog of pictures I added. In that collection of 7 images, no options would appear when I scrolled over it.

I think I might know what s happening. When this one image was accidentally posted twice. I noticed the image options were appearing under the actual areal I was writing the review on. You can see the Change button partially obscured. I noticed this when I was trying to get rid of the picture.

(as I was writing this report. It took three attempts to get these image in the right spot. It kept posting this at the very top of this post.)

After I posted the review, I was able to go right to the posted text version and add in all those links and images with no trouble.

@fire_star:

Thanks to everyone. I'm glad you all seem to enjoy my work on the wiki. Now we just need to get links out there for some of these series so it can bring in much more traffic. Anime Vice has far more to offer the anime fan than any of the other fan made wiki sites for anime/manga.

This is for everyone. When you write up a good wiki page, post a link to it in forums of other sites to draw interest. The Fairy Tail wiki editors should go to fan fan sites and post links to the great work they do on episodes.

General Discussion » Why anime has not yet managed to implement in the West as in Japa

I'm not so sure it hasn't. The airing of animes on official streaming websites is on the rise. Also, sales of manga are pretty high, and that's with rampant piracy. FUNimation is airing One Piece episodes an hour after they air in japan.

General Discussion » Why Western movies based on anime fail so much?

The Dragon Ball Evolution movie changed everything that made Dragon Ball what it was. It didn't even keep the personalities of the characters. That was just some cheesy B movie with Dragon Ball's name slapped on it. I understand that movie adaptation can't be 100% accurate, but that's no excuse to not even be 10% accurate. The character of Goku is suppose to be incredibly happy, easy-going, and kind of a simpleton at things. That movie changed him into an angst-ridden teenager who can't get a date. They basically made it an anime equivalent of Twilight. In the original manga, Goku hardly knew the difference between boys and girls. It was a comedy adventure series.

There is also the trouble of when you bring anything from animation into the real world. When something is a cartoon, the audience tends to be more generous with the suspension of disbelief. Things that work on the page aren't necessarily going to translate to the real world. A good example would be Wolverine. His comic book yellow and blue outfit looks good in the comics, but would look ridiculous if they tried it in the live-action films. I just keep wondering why they don't put more effort into bringing some of the actual anime movies to the big screen. A lot of those are fun to watch. Though, the problem where is that most of those are made for an audience who are already familiar with the characters going into the movie.

I look at adaptations the same way I look at a recipe. If you want to make a recipe that you see is really popular and that people enjoy. You get this recipe, but rather than using what is written, you change most of the ingredients. Once you've changed what makes the recipe, you can't then be confused why no one likes it your take on it. It's no longer the same recipe. You need to keep the heart of the character. Otherwise it's no longer the same story so many people loved.

@gpbmike
Oh, that's right. Sorry, I normally always add that information when reporting bugs. I'm using Windows Vista and the browser is FireFox 4.

Thanks for making those changes. It's really superficial, but they give a certain level of organization to the pages. I haven't been using the new text editor as much as I'd like because of this text manipulation issue. Other than this one thing. I really do like it.  I just use the italicize and bold so often when I write.

I've normally been happy with FireFox, but since this 4.0 upgrade things have been weird. When I add link to the text, I'm suddenly shot up to the top of the page. So, I have to scroll back down to keep working. I will say, this bug isn't present on the new text editor. Only the old one. Since you're going to be changing editors, I wouldn't spend any time bothering with this one.

This is for subscribers?? I haven't subscribed. Is it for subscribers and moderators?

@gpbmike:

where are you doing the text formatting that goes away?

The removal of space between paragraphs is by design. We're trying to remove extraneous markup.

looks like it removes the strike tag in forums. .

Okay, I just needed to find some time to make some images to show you some proof about this alteration that I'm finding. This is on every wiki page that I edit, but this example can be found on the Hide profile.

In Edit Mode

Link: http://www.animevice.com/profile/foxxfireart/all-images/84-151556/edit_1/83-418926/

These are probably too small for you to see the changes, so I added links directly to the images for full viewing. I want to draw your attention to the Creation section. In the first image. I italicized "Monthly Dragon Age", in that first paragraph; and in the second paragraph I italicized the titles "Streets of the Dead". Where it says "Section 23" I both bolded and linked that text. You can see these text manipulations in the first image.

After Saving

Link: http://www.animevice.com/profile/foxxfireart/all-images/84-151556/edit_2/83-418927/

The second image shows what happens after I save my changes. You'll notice that "Monthly Dragon Age" and the episode title "Streets of the Dead" are no longer italicized. "Section 23" is also no longer in bold. For some reason, the first time I wrote "Streets of the Dead" it remained italicized. Most of the text manipulation didn't carry over after saving.

About Spaces

I completely understand wanting to remove pointless breaks, but it's a common practice in writing to place on break in between paragraphs to emphasize a change in a scene. It's helpful when writing long and detailed synopsis of volumes or episodes. Otherwise it just becomes this long list of paragraph after paragraph.

Space Bar Bug

Another bug I've been finding has to do with my space bar. Sometimes when I'm dealing with a long page of text and I want to get to the bottom quickly without using any of the standard mouse or side bar scrolling. I'll tap or hold down my space bar. When this new text editor is active, the page wont scroll down when I tap the space bar. This also happens on news pages. It does work when I have the previous editor working.

@gpbmike
I only use the large image for the wiki under certain circumstances, such as headers for anime and manga series. They just look nice on the pages for things like Panty& Stocking, BLEACH, Highschool of the Dead, Fairy Tail, Black Lagoon, ect. I don't use them on character profiles. They just look nice occasionally on pages.

Another bug I've been finding with the new text editor is that it undoes all alteration to text, italic and bold. It shows in the preview, but once I hit save it's all gone. I find this one rather annoying because when I write I like to italicize proper titles.

Another one, it removes all spaces between paragraphs after hitting save.

Text Editor

Details, details, details. Explain it in details

Hey, I'm really enjoying playing with this new wiki text editor. Firstly, it looks seriously slick. I did discover a few odd problems. The first one was with the tables. I was creating the regular table that shows off the moves that appear in an episode. I saw something sort of odd. Normally when you select a row or column of a table, the little X mark will appear on the border of that section that manually allows you to delete that portion. If you look at the image. I selected the column, but the X mark appeared on the top left, above my profile picture.

As I was writing this PM. I discovered by [Enter] key on my keyboard doesn't work to create a space. I know it's not my board, because it's working on wiki profiles. This appears to be a bug in the PMs, Forums, and Blogs. Another bug I'm finding is that when I bold or italicize text that it doesn't stay. I save the page, and any text alterations are undone

Also, the first letter in proper names should be capitalized.
