Dream's Top 5 Best Anime of 2011
The five anime titles I most enjoyed throughout this past year.
1. Mawaru Penguindrum

Directed by the same mind who made Revolutionary Girl Utena, this complex and weird series features a wide cast of fleshed-out characters and elaborate plot twists in its exploration of those going after a mysterious diary that supposedly grants a wish to those who make use of it.

2. Fate/Zero

Type Moon and Ufotable were a beautiful combo with the Kara no Kyoukai film series. Their impressive combination continues in this visually impressive and well-written prequel to the Fate/ Stay Night series.

3. Wandering Son

The first anime I've seen that believably depicts issues of gender identity in a serious light, all involving middle school students.

4. Bunny Drop

Adorable slice-of-life drama without overdoing it on the cuteness as the series explores Daikichi's challenges in raising the orphaned Rin.

5. Puella Magi Madoka Magica

My surprise hit for this year. A seemingly typical mahou shoujo title turns into a suspenseful and dark drama as the girls who become mahou shoujo discover some pretty scary ramifications over what happens once they gain their powers and the nature of the witches they fight.
