1. Kimagure Orange Road
For those curious, AnimEigo's licensing rights to the series expired three years ago so this title is unlicensed now. I know there's no way in hell this title could ever be re-licensed considering the age of the series and its lack of popularity with current anime fans. But I have enough of a soft spot for KOR where I have the desire of wanting to see it here in the states again. |

2. Minami-ke
Funniest anime title I've seen since watching Azumanga Daioh. |
3. Looking Up at the Half-Moon
A touching and dramatic hospital romance story. |
4. Nodame Cantabile
The music performances and amusing character chemistry between Chiaki and Nodame were my highlights with Nodame Cantabile. |
5. DennÅ Coil
This is Serial Experiments Lain-lite with elementary school kids. A fun and engaging series. |
6. Cross Game
Not all sports titles suck. This one has enough subtle character humor and development with a heartwarming feel to it and was my favorite title for 2009. |
7. The Rose of Versailles
This 1979 title looking into the days before the French Revolution features Oscar Jarjeyes, the earliest sample of a strong-willed anime heroine long before those like Nausicaa and Utena came about. |

8. Only Yesterday
One of the few Ghibli movies in Disney's hands that they haven't released here in the states. This one's more of a treat for young adults with visions of nostalgia for their childhood as main character Taeko recalls moments from her childhood while away on vacation from her office job in Japan. |

17. The Story of Saiunkoku
The second season of Saiunkoku has yet to be licensed. |

18. Kino's Journey
For those curious, there were two shorts made for the series that have yet to be licensed in the states. The first one, Life Goes On, is a prequel to the series which covers how Kino became proficient in firearms and took on the identity of the original Kino. The second one, For You, plays out like a typical episode of the series, but with much better visuals than the original series. |

19. Angel's Egg
Want something more baffling than Eva or Serial Experiments Lain? Then check this surreal title in one of Mamoru Oshii's early directorial works. |
20. House of Five Leaves
Funimation only has streaming rights to the anime right now. Would be nice if someone could snag licensing and distribution rights as well for this feudal era character drama. |
21. Bokurano
A depressing, yet powerful roller coaster ride of a mecha drama focused around the value of living. |
22. Arakawa Under the Bridge
Kou's expressions in response to the bizarre antics and appearances of the people he meets in Arakawa made this series a hoot for me. |
