Tokyopop » New Tokyopop Source?

With the demise of the American website and branch office of Tokyopop, not to mention redirects to their poorly updated facebook page, all that is left supposedly would be the Japanese and European branch offices.
I heard that all manga projects would be handled by the European office(s), but I cannot fathom why there would be no website at all. If they are still doing business, shouldn't there still be a website present aside from a dinky fanpage on facebook?
If they are still doing business how does one access their market on local and/or international levels? Is there any official source or does one have to rely on various markets such as Amazon, Ebay, Rightstuff, Anime Castle, and whatnot?
Does anyone have any updated information on this situation?

I think Stu Levy may have had decent ideas about how to get things started, but clearly he needed help to keep things running well and I wish he had taken on a partner or simply passed the torch...

Bug Reporting » posting blog entry to forum question...

not sure if this really qualifies as a bug for reporting but sometimes i post a blog entry to a forum and i notice that while i get a quest credit for making a blog entry i do not get a quest credit for starting a new forum topic. i figure whether i generate a forum topic directly in the forum or via my blog post, it is still a new topic and should be credited as such. after posting several blogs to forums i realized i was not getting forum post credits like i thought i would/should. if this is not a bug would someone please enlighten me on how and when a new post is not a new post regardless of how it is posted? is it best to just post a blog entry and if i figure it is worth a forum post, make a new separate the identical post within the forums just so i can receive the proper credit? also, on a non-bug related note, after 2 blog posts i received a message saying the i was limited to two blog entries per day to prevent flooding? seriously, i can only post two blog entries in one day? are there other limitations that i am bound to stumble across? i had stumbled on another one a few weeks back about a limit to entries to a thread in the forums to prevent flooding. all i am really asking for is clarification if i am not encountering bugs. thank you for your time. i appreciate your consideration given to my questions.

General Discussion » Translator Tools...

While I am more interested in online, I am also interested in offline translator tools specifically for translating Japanese to English.
I am aware of Babel Fish, Yahoo & Google translating, and EU Dict., and smart.fm which is now iknow.jp.
I would like to know of other accurate resources that are found useful as I am sure many Anime Vice users find the need to translate once in a while.
thank you...

@Rexic:  This has to be the most crucial clue within this thread, considering how many went insane over the Monster Mash quest. Thank you.

Quests » The Big Quiz problem

I would really like to take the quiz again, but for some reason the link doesn't let me. I tried the suggestions above and it did not work for me. I had 8 out of 10 right consecutively and I would really like to have another chance to fulfill that quest. Is this a bug or did I really blow my chance at getting complete a quest set?

On a side note, shouldn't there be a better balance to question topics? A slew of them were about Digimon and that really screwed me over as I have never seen the series to know any of those very specific details.

Quests » Piece of the Pie - The Man...

it is simple for someone who has seen the whole thing. not so much for someone who watched it occasionally more than five years ago.
based on what i found online on other sites about this particular arc, i figured the capture of nico robin drawing in luffy and his crew would be the answer. apparently not...
checking all the people connected to the government page didn't help either.

Quests » Piece of the Pie - The Man...

Ok, so the clue states:
"Those in power tend to not like pirates. Find this group that run things in One Piece, and who they use to catch Luffy's crew."

I was able to figure out the group, but I an still stuck on who they used. I thought it was a certain little birdie, but going to her page didn't win the quest.
Did I not figure that out correctly or have I come across a bug?

If I am wrong, could someone please drop a hint because I am stumped...
Thank you!

Off-Topic » What would you do for your birthday...

Mina-san, domo arigato gozaimasu!  (^o^)

Thank you everyone for indulging me with your various birthday desires and warm wishes. I gained a lot of perspective from your posts.
As a kid, my birthday has always been during the middle of spring break regardless of which school or university I attended. As a consequence I rarely saw my friends during my birthday and people tended to forget and miss it.
My family always tended to make a big production out of things and while that was pretty exciting as a child, I ceased to want it as I grew older for various reasons.
It was interesting to see your suggestions, some of which I did (cake, games, anime, and a little family time) and some of which didn't happen (barbecue, party, friends, etc.), but I liked everyone's ideas nonetheless.
If it weren't so cold, I think I would really like to have a barbecue and it would be nice to have friends like all of you around to share the excitement.

In the end, I stuck around online for the early part of the morning since I had already been up all night and then crashed shortly thereafter. When I woke, I grabbed a bite to eat and enjoyed some anime and manga. My mother made a birthday dinner, complete with cake and a couple prezzies, because no matter how much I tell her "no," she still has to do something to honor the day. I think she does it more for her own benefit than mine these days. On an interesting side note, the candles for the cake actually burned flames that were the same color as the candles themselves. This was kind of neat and more interesting than sparkling candles or candles that relight when blown out. I noticed I had some online recognition from other friends and acquaintances so it wasn't such a bad day after all. Normally my birthday gets me kind of down because I view it as another year gone by and I start to tally what I have and haven't done, which bothers me more than it should. I am trying to give more thought to what I want to do and focus less on the past (if I have already learned from it) and hopefully my future might be a little brighter as a result.

Thanks again...

Bug Reporting » Next Class - last night cram...

update:
i just tried to do this task again after the new firefox update. i still have some add on security and am lacking other add on security now. things went along a little differently than last time, but i still did not see the intended designation, however it seemed enough so that i actually got a credit for doing it unlike before.

also something of interest had happened where i was unable to post any commentary in order to accomplish quests and otherwise simply communicate to the e-community. as of the recent firefox update i can now do that as well. coincidence? hard to say...

General Discussion » Japanese onomatopoeia...

Thank you. I appreciate you taking the time to answer my question. This does help clarify a couple points for me.

As I get into the language, I begin to wonder about various aspects from an academic perspective- as if the mechanics weren't hard enough. It keeps my interest peaked when I understand more about what I learn, i.e. anyone can know what something is without knowing why. I like to know why frequently. It drives some people crazy. ;)

Off-Topic » What would you do for your birthday...

Just out of curiosity, say it was your birthday and you had a choice of anything you wanted to do for the day. What would you choose to do?

Today is my birthday and I am contemplating my options so I am curious how others might choose to spend their special day.
Feel free to be as creative or bland as you wish...

Happy Birthday to me!

Bug Reporting » Next Class - last night cram...

ok, so you're supposed to click a link to look at laptops from best buy, except it isn't working for me.
maybe my security is botching the plan but i keep getting a blank page. after all, i did have to disable abp just to get the best buy link to even display on the anime vice page.
any suggestions on how this might work or is this a real bug?

General Discussion » Does anyone else perfer dubs?

I will watch whatever is available, however with my eyesight deteriorating in recent years, I find myself searching more and more for dub versions because it's becoming just too difficult  to read subs. also, sometimes i actually prefer dub voices to the original japanese voices... :)
p.s. scratched corneas blow.

General Discussion » Japanese onomatopoeia...

I have several books that list the various onomatopoeic sounds that one is bound to encounter in various forms of Japanese culture (most of mine are released from Manga University, but I have some others as well), however nothing I have really goes into how these word-sounds are derived  and how they come to differ (sometimes greatly) from those that are used in other languages, particularly English. Moreover, nothing really explains hows onomatopoeic sounds seem to exist for things that don't make a sound at all. I was wondering if anyone knew of any resources that  would go into greater detail, explaining the history and evolution of Japanese onomatopoeia.
thanks to anyone who can help...
