I'm finally taking a crack at the social media marketing world. So ... how can my existing RP characters and Vice account help? #postcards

I'm a Narutard. Bite me.

Konoha and the Land of Fire

I just wanted to go through and explain not just what happens in the manga but my interpretation of it, not because I think my understanding is .. like better or something, it's not. It's just I have my own way of looking at it. It's as much a justification of why I spent so much time reading it as anything else.

Anyway, there will be more than one part because I am currently not in a good place to write for long periods of time.

Birth of a Fail

For me, it was the first time I had ever witnessed a lead character who was kind of an idiot. I actually got into Naruto when downloading stuff on Kazaa and I thought I would just check it out as I had heard it was cool and I had always loved anime ever since I saw my first one. I managed to download the full unedited subbed cut of Naruto vs Sasuke on that lake with the other Hokage statues.

I watched it at least once a day, then once a week, for ages, then I watched the whole of bleach up to the arrival of the Arrancar in a week. Anyway, that was current then.

So when I went back and watched more of the earlier stuff (I followed the story on from the fight with Sasuke, first off, and obviously was instantly completely lost by the filler) I was actually kind of surprised he was such a douche. I don't know now, now that I have more literary experience, how Kishi managed to pull off a hero who is both a complete loner with no friends, a danger to everyone and the nicest guy in the world. But somehow he does it.

I think the reason it works so well, is nothing to do with Sasuke or Sakura, I think in reality it's character like Lee, Neji, Kakashi and Kato who really make it work. It's actually a lot to follow but because the lead is so down to earth you feel like you can't help but relate somehow.

The Story

So for the unitiated, Naruto is the son of one of the greatest ninja of all time, Minato, he marries a lady who is well versed in sealing spells. Jutsu. They (through something we learn about much later) are forced to seal this huge demon inside of him lest it rampage throughout the world and kill everyone. Basically. This leads to their son being a very easy target for jokes and fun making, not so much bullying, as he's pretty tough. As you can imagine.

The beginning of the story see's him learning what it means to be a shinobi, a ninja, what the world of Shinobi is like and who his peers are.

The only real reason you notice his incompetence is because he is paired with the coldest most ruthless, emo kid, that the world has ever seen. Who constantly puts him down and makes him look like a failure, consequently, obviously, Naruto is driven forward by this and thus the key dynamic for the whole Comic is born. Sakura is soon left in the dust waiting to heal up whoever loses, ironically enough. Establishing our other mechanic, romance.

Next time I'll get into the organisation and history of the Shinobi and how the world came to centre around Konoha. I'll give you a one word hint; economy.

Take it easy and don't be too harsh on me, I know this isn't exactly a normal review xD hence why its on my blog and stuff.

Had some problems today; they were two fold as opposed to my normal absent minded nature problems.

I frequently get the inclination to watch new anime, after reading baskets of manga sauce suddenly the idea of watching a show is like .. ooh, that sounds easy. Oh my god, I get it so wrong, it's like somehow the subs become impossible to read, I can't follow the story, everything is wrong, I can find something better to do, it's all boring.

That's my first problem and it was in full effect today, I started off watching the end of Steins Gate again to see if it was still funny to me and after five minutes I was so disinterested I made breakfast.

Then I went for some Shaman King given that I have just finished Ultimo and was able to get through the whole first episode, which was awesome! I really enjoyed the style and I have never seen anything like that before despite the fact I really notice how the style affected so much of what we see in the really new anime at the moment. I then got stuck staring at the Opening OVA and then repeating in on youtube, then wondering if it was worth watching the whole thing, leading to wanting to read it first. Which is where this loop started.

So I decide to go way off track and try out some Sket Dance, which almost loaded up but my laptop durped (probably because I had been queueing it for ages.) so just as I was about to dive into episode 40 and jsut try desperately to hang on, I was bitterly disappointed.

Finally for no reason I decided to try and pick up Ouran again which was an unmitigated disaster, seriously, I'm at episode 4 but I want to watch the movie, I literally can never tell what the bejezus is meant to be going on in that show.

Next week I am gonna be working all day every day making my own .. very boring, but absolutely essential website. I won't be advertising it or anything to do with it here. Obviously.

It does however mean that I don't want to get deeply into a whole bunch of new stuff right before a whole bunch of new stuff, and some new stuff, I'm young but .. I like excuses still and I don't want to burn out. So just to say this isn't my normal speed or what I usually do, I'm actually still quite limited ATM from being homeless. Which blows.

So yeah; I will have to wretch myself from the clutches for a week to get on my feet (hopefully) and do some boring RL stuff. But soon!

I'm moving the blog onto this less fail account: http://www.animevice.com/profile/aliceshiro/

So as I said, been catching up with my reading. Yay. If you haven't read D.Gray Man or Ultimo up to the last released issues then there might be some spoilers below but its nothing desperately specific. I'll be writing reviews today on both if you're desperately intrigued by what I think.

  • D.Gray Man

Issue 200 - Seed of Destruction

O| One of the things I like about D.Gray Man is how you never feel like the heroes really have a chance of winning on a grand scale. The Exorcists seem to be getting hammered pretty much right from the start and now, just as it looks like Allen is going to be strong to really start saving people and turning the die, he turns against them himself. At least that's how it seems to be going, I'll admit that it's getting washy over what's really going on with Kanda and Alma, their backstory is beautifully done and really interesting but it does sort of leave you wondering what else is meant to be going on.

I read it to the end or at least what I found to be up to date, including the A.W epilogue, I wasn't disappointed. I won't get into the anime now, because, well, I don't want people to hate me. I'll go back and review certain battles/story arcs/relationships over time.

  • Ultimo

Issue 5 - Carnage under the Moonlight

M| Well I just want to say, what the fuck, actually. A gay best friend? Because of latent desires to be a girl? So not cool. I do like this but it's taken a long time to get used to it, I just wanted to see super teen japan fighting robots, instead an actual story emerges. Its spurious, yes, and flirts between outright hollywood style panelling then dark complicated plot swings. Somehow the super cool looking Karakura Douji manage to keep the whole thing together.

It was really good to actually get this finished, I was psyched for the end by the end and the last few issues had me wishing it would go on longer.

Now I need to catch up on Naruto then get to some more reading; as I say I'll include little spotlights on parts of my favourite manga from time to time.

Keep Cool.

Because I have no idea how to add photos to wiki article edits and otherwise, this stuff will just sit there being ignored.
