Delete/Combine Pages » Two Different 20th Century Boys Pages

Actually, the one Petiew worked on was the one worth saving. It's the one that DocHaus worked on that needs to be deleted.

Delete/Combine Pages » Two Different 20th Century Boys Pages

We have, somehow, two different pages for the 20th Century Boys manga. There's this one, which I would consider the main one, and there's a duplicate - which can be found here. The duplicate has a better description of the series itself, but the main one has more contiguous volumes of the manga, with the US cover art (1-5), and better volume write-ups. If no one has any objections, I'll move the over-all series description from the duplicate over to the main article, so the mods can then delete the duplicate.

Implied Sex Scene » Conditions for Implied Sex Scene

@PenguinDust: I'd probably call that good. As a general rule of thumb, if you have a "pulling his/her boots on" scene, with one partner getting up and dressed, and the other still in bed, then I think it meets the criteria for implied sex scene.

@Wraith: I was a little worried about that - but then I noticed that the top article on the site is from Will. My suspicion is that the Adam & Jamie heavy top video is for all the people who were brought to the site for the first time by Adam and Jamie, and were looking for them. Remember - the first video about the Adam & Jamie connection had very little actual Adam & Jamie in it.

@PenguinDust: Yeah. My fear is that Screened will turn into The Hollywood Reporter, and AnimeVice will turn into a general purpose geek news site, with a heaping topping of condescension.

@AlKusanagi: I wouldn't say that Anime is dying. In fact, I'd say that these past few seasons, with shows like Tiger & Bunny, Bodacious Space Pirates, and more are great signs that Anime will continue to survive and thrive.

That said, if Anime Vice was to expand its mandate (for lack of a better term) to something outside of Japanese anime to Tokusatsu, J-Pop, and so on, that would not be a bad thing.

I think we need something, in keeping of the spirit of this thread, that is slightly more cheerful. Like, say, this.

But seriously folks, Dave is answering questions about the split in the Giant Bomb chat right now. Now would be a really good time for a bunch of us to come in and basically let Dave know that we're really worried about the future of Anime Vice, and to voice our specific concerns. That, and he's also taking questions on his twitter account, @enemykite.

@Turambar: I figured he was too. However, he was freelancing for three different sites. I was kind of wondering whether, as part of this, one - would he still be freelancing with BermanBraun to do stuff like Watch & Learn for AV and Welcome To Weird for Screened, or if they weren't keeping him on or, well, what?

I kind of hope that this leads to Anime Vice getting additional staff. Tom, Sora, ZombiePie, and everyone else have been doing an amazing job providing great content for the site (something that I'm kind of proud to have been a small part of, with my articles on Anime licensed tabletop RPGs, and my brief rundown of the Manga Video Holy Trinity Of Suck). I hope that some of the volunteer contributors, like ZombiePie & Sora might get brought on full time and get paid for their work! Additionally, I hope that, if we get more staff, we might be able to get more original content and news coverage, instead of being, well, a show recap site (which is not a bad thing, but it could be better).

What I am wondering is, how this will effect some of the cross site stuff. Tom got started on Comic Vine before he branched out to Screened and to Anime Vice. Would he end up going with Comic Vine, or would he stay with Screened and Anime Vice at BermanBraun? What effect will BermanBraun have on the content of the sites? I know that they were paying close attention to this at Giant Bomb (and likely Tested), but I'm not so sure how much they were looking at for Anime Vice.

Also, I'm kind of wondering about infrastructure updates. From a sheer feature-set standpoint, Anime Vice is behind the closest Whiskey Powered site, Screened, in terms of what you can do with the Wiki. For example, on Screened you can do a mass edit for a series to add recurring cast members and characters all at one whack, which you can't do here. Also, Anime Vice doesn't have the option to add story arcs to manga volumes, while at ComicVine, you can add story-lines to comic issues. Will this cause the Whiskey Powered platform to fork even further, or will this mean that we'll finally be able to get everything relatively current on the feature-set and back-end side of things for all the various sites?

Inquiring minds want to know!

General Discussion » Looking for a good list of Light Novels in English

So, I need to tap the collective brains of the Anime Vice community.

I'm part of a support group for parents of kids and teenagers with Asperger's Syndrome. One of the parents on the list has a kid who likes to read comic books, but doesn't like reading normal novels (of the standard Unbroken Text variety). His instructor in class expects him to read more books instead of just comics (and, I presume manga), so his mother is trying to get him to read more books. In the hopes of helping him transition, she's looking for novels with illustrations to help him transition, and is asking the group for advice.

When I read her request, the first thing I thought of was Light Novels, as lots of them are, in some form or another, illustrated. So, does anyone have any good lists of English Translated Light Novels and their publishers that I can point her towards?

Delete/Combine Pages » Delete Extra Episodes

On Orphen's episode page, episodes 25-47 are actually the series second season and should be listed as such. Since the season number can't be edited, the episodes will need to be deleted and re-added as second season episodes. Alternatively, we could just stick with a separate series listing for the second season. In any case, the extra episodes need to go.

When I attempt to add DVDs to a series page, I get an immediate error message saying that the query has timed out, and then the little sub-window closes before I have an opportunity to re-phrase my query.

I'm running Windows 7, and using Google Chrome v. 13.0

Just Anime » need something new to watch. Suggestions?

Gun X Sword is another fun super-robot series that is somewhat in the vein of Big O. Oh, and it also has Steven Blum on the dub, if you're into that sort of thing (and it's on Netflix Streaming).

Editing & Tools » Publisher = Animation Studio?

@EganTheVile1: Agreed. For Orphen, for example (which I've been wikibombing), the Publisher could be...

  1. Kadokawa Shoten (the publisher of the light novels the series is based on)
  2. Sentai Filmworks (the current US licensor)
  3. TBS (the Japanese broadcaster)

  4. J.C. Staff (the animation studio who did the series)

So, when editing the wiki page, I had to pick just one, so I went with Sentai Filmworks. Maybe for a future update to Anime Vice, we could get a change so multiple publishers can be selected (in the same way that multiple genres can be selected. I'm not sure how hard that would be to set up though.
