Eureka Seven: Astral Ocean » Eureka Seven Ao, Episode 1 Discussion

So episode one, Born Slippy, aired this week (April 12th 2012). I just wanted to share some of my thoughts and some of the questions that haven't left my mind since watching the episode.

Ao's hair is brown. YES. YES YES YES! This is a remarkably good deviation from the manga and from expectations

Though the preview for next week's episode shows him sporting turquoise hair, obviously this has something to do with him piloting the nirvash.

Speaking of deviations from the manga, I love how much more attention to detail the anime has and how many more characters have already been introduced (like Peid Piper).

While they have decided to add a few expository things, I am glad that they have left a few cliche's out, like the numerous flashbacks that Ao just happens to recall. But what is most offsetting to me is the setting and the time frame. I don't want to discuss too much about the ending of Eureka Seven, but I am not sure how the chronology of the setting is laid out. The fact that they can still run FP's on trapar and other things confuses me.

Nostalgia Bombs:

When Ao says "To be continued" at the end of the episode.

But things I am looking forward to in the story line are:

1. What are these "secrets," "g-monsters," and the importance of the Seven Swell Phenomenon.

2. The cameo appearance of Holland and Talho's child. This definitely needs to happen. He/she would be about the same age as Ao I would feel (maybe a few years older).

Anyway, I would love to talk to anyone about this. I don't think I'll be doing any wiki work for this series though.

General Discussion » Return of Site Personalities?

@sickVisionz

@colorbrandon: I hear people say that all the time but I've heard plenty of good Skype podcasts. It reminds me of years and years ago when I made music on a regular basis and people was say program x sucks. 9/10 it was a case of them being new to making music, sucking, and blaming the program for their lack of talent. I think complaints about how you can't podcast via Skype are similar.

It's probably just a consistency issue, different internet bandwidths, microphones, and room acoustics, which would just lead to more editing.

I am almost tempted to try a community podcast, guerrilla style. But then again, Skype pocasts are notoriously bad.

General Discussion » Why Manga needs it's own Crunchyroll

There is a tremendous market for this kind of thing. These arent my own words, but there needs to be someone like Steve Jobs and iTunes. In other words, putting everything possible in one place. If anything, CrunchyRoll is probably the best medium. They have money right now, and more importantly a mind-share.

General Discussion » The Anime DVD Conundrum

From what I hear, anime sales are always a struggle to break even. The only real insidery information im aware of was the decline of Hello-Project (although its music, its the same story). Sadly, many of the albums sales depended on otaku support, that is people who are willing to buy multiple copies of a product to show support. I would not be surprised if the dvd/blu-ray market is the same.

Guilty Crown » Guilty Crown Ending Interpretation (spoilers)

@nicopch:

Was it ever revealed that Inori was made out of pieces of Shu? I thought she was made out of the genetics of Mana (which i guess you could argue are the same as Shu's)

Guilty Crown » Guilty Crown Ending Interpretation (spoilers)

@nicopch:

Both Eve and Adam were said to be blind (which in a way means they are innocent). When Eve and Adam ate the forbidden fruit, they grew aware that they were naked and became aware of sin.

I think when Inori "ermerges" out of Mana's body at the very end covered in crystals, she has become "Eve," the biblical Eve. She is blind because she has not yet "taken the fruit". At the very end, Shu is blind because he became the biblical Adam. He rejected Mana's as Eve, and accepted Inori. I still can't explain why Inori disappears though. Perhaps because she takes in all of the voids in the world to save Shu.

Guilty Crown » Guilty Crown Ending Interpretation (spoilers)

@Supreme Marvel: It's an interesting thought.

Technically Eve was "made" from Adam right? Which would check out because of Inori's synthetic origins.

Guilty Crown » Guilty Crown Ending Interpretation (spoilers)

SPOILERS (Even though that goes without saying i guess)

Quick ending summary:

So in the very end, when Inori reappears, she is blind and cannot detech Shu, save for the outreached hands that clasp. After a touching embrace, Shu uses his void to absorb all of the voids (shards of Mana) in the world. Just before he is completely consumed by the crystals, Inori offers him the figure "diamonds" in the game Cat's Cradle. After he takes it, Inori seemingly disappears along with all of the cancerous crystals engulfing Shu. When Shu appears at Hare's birthday party after the time skip, he is supposedly blind (he carries a "white cane"). After the party, he sits in silence, puts on an ear piece (headphones?) and the ED music fades in as Inori and Shu embrace once again, in that white space.

My interpretation:

Disclaimer: My bible knowledge is poor (I hope not to offend anyone):

So my attempts at outside research has led me to a few ideas. Definitely the most powerful symbol in the ending is "Cat's Cradle," or also known as Manger Cradle. This is usually the centerpiece at nativity scenes (and in other words, the reason we celebrate Christmas). I might be thinking too hard about it. The figure Shu makes from Inori's "diamonds" is from what I can tell "Cat's Eye." The big question I am asking myself is: What is the importance of eyes?

It is really easy to see the Adam and Eve connections. The mysterious meteorite that Mana touches represents the "fruit." (there is a scene where you can see her bandaged finger, which was assumed to have touched the stone). But instead of Adam (Shu) taking the fruit offered by Eve (Mana), he refuses it, more than once. Research into the Adam and Eve (Fall of Man) story reveals this:

She then gives the fruit to the man, who eats also, "and the eyes of the two of them were opened." Aware now of their nakedness, they make coverings of fig leaves, and hide from the sight of God.

Which is probably the real explanation behind the sudden blindness of Inori and then of Shu.

Of course, some other things I found interesting was the camera focus on Shu's new robotic arm. This really reminded me of "a pound of flesh," a Shakespearean idiom that references a debt repaid heavily. The fact that he tapped into this "forbidden fruit" (that is the use of voids) means he lost the arm that touched it (his right arm).

But some of the questions that I have lingering are:

1. Where is the Garden of Eden? Is it the white space where Inori and Shu sometimes see each other?

2. Why does Inori live inside Shu? What is the importance of hearing/ears?

I would love to hear what everyone else thinks on this matter.

@GunslingerPanda: C3 is horrible, Maji Koi is not bad (so far), and I have not gotten to the others yet.

It hurts to watch Maji Koi since i've played so much of the visual novel (even the teacher route).

Looking forward to:

Last exile, Un-Go, Horizon, Ben-To, and of course Fate/Zero

The truth is: there really is no compelling sports anime/manga other than a select few.

One popular one I can think of off the top of my head is Suzuka.

Edit: Just remembered, Cross Game was pretty good.

Off-Topic » would you give an speech in front of a big audience?

I used to get incredibly nervous during grade school presentations, but I learned to cope with it. I gave a speech for my high school graduation about staying "hungry"  in every sense of the word. Now in college, I am super comfortable with speaking in front of adults, big groups, or even small children. It gets easier the more often you do it.

Off-Topic » what do you think about racism?

The guy in the video talks about "rich Ivy Leaguers" being oppressed. Coming from someone at an Ivy League thats touted for its diversity, there'are still a lot of inter-student body prejudices against all races.

It exists, and it sometimes scares me. That people can become physical/aggressive over something as trivial as eye color or hair color is ridiculous.

anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day » Forget-me-nots

http://www.copyright-free-photos.org.uk/flowers/forget-me-not-08.jpg

I recently saw this flower, "forget-me-not." It's name is japanese is something similar.
Is this a possible plot point?

As smart as the writing  has been, I kind of hope this doesnt make an appearance in the story, or if it plays an integral part, it has to be done with finesse.
