People That Have Made Anime Awesome

From iconic mechas to action-packed treasure heists, these people have made the most impact in the anime/manga world by bringing us the good stuff. To all the ones that are on this list, I wholeheartedly say thank you.

1. Hayao Miyazaki

When you're talking anime, it's hard not to mention the creator of such hits like Castle in the Sky and Howl's Moving Castle. My personal favorites though, come in the form of Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke, and Lupin III: The Castle of Cagliostro. I don't know if Studio Ghibli can pull off anything like the latter ever again, but I can safely say he's done plenty over his prestigious career.

2. Yoshiyuki Tomino

Tomino's penchant for killing off a multitude of notable characters in his acclaimed Gundam series earned him the nickname, "Kill 'em all Tomino." And that's awesome.

3. Shinichiro Watanabe

Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo. He also did The Animatrix and Macross Plus. I can't wait to see what he'll do next.

4. Monkey Punch

The Lupin III series is one of my all-time favorites. Who better to thank than the creator himself?

5. Yoko Kanno

If I was given the opportunity to make a killer anime series, I would hire her to do the music.

6. Yuji Ohno

Then again, I wouldn't mind this famed Lupin III composer to do the job. Or he and Kanno can collaborate. That would be incredible.

7. Nagaru Tanigawa

For creating the Haruhi Suzumiya series. I've enjoyed the anime series and the movie, as well as the light novels. Keep it up, sir.

8. Hideaki Anno

For creating something as amazing as Neon Genesis Evangelion. Thank you for scaring the shit out of me, I really needed it. If you want more of his track record, he worked with Miyazaki at Studio Ghibli as an animator for films such as Grave of the Fireflies and Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind. Good enough for you?

9. Osamu Tezuka

Of course, this wouldn't be a list without the Grandfather of Anime. I don't actually know much about the rest of Tezuka's work, but I've enjoyed some of his works, including Kimba the White Lion, Astro Boy, Aoi Blink, and Princess Knight.

10. Akira Toriyama

If it weren't for Toriyama-san, the world would be a much darker place. No Saiyan warriors, giant monkeys, Freizas, or even Cells to speak of. No epic power-up moments. No OVER 9000's. Thank God he did Dragon Ball, eh?
