Metapod vs. Kakuna

Battle rules:

  1. Both are level 100
  2. Both are generation 1, freashly caught, wild Pokemon. So no TMs in this battle.
  3. Both are bloodlust, and have morals off.
  4. Both don't get prep.

Battle takes place at a forest.

@Bruce246:

Moved to the Pokémon franchise page. This is not a proper battle thread. Dream and I had reminded you to label your battles joke if necessary. I don't want to lock your threads, so moving them would be the next best alternative.

Please follow the Battle Forum Rules.

On Topic:

This would end in Kakuna's favor since Kakuna has poison sting and harden while Metapod had harden and tackle. Kakuna has a likely chance of poisoning the enemy.

@takashichea: not true. In Gen 5 Metapod canlearn V-Create. I have a shiny Metapod that has it.

I sense a lot of 'harden' in this fight

@DBZ_universe: This battle involves the Gen 1 versions of both.

Factoring that in, would have to side with Metapod. Poison Shot has lower damage output compared to Metapod's Tackle (15 Power compared to Tackle's 50), even with the chance to inflict Poison status with Poison Shot. Combine that with Metapod's slightly higher HP and Defense stats (303 HP and 208 Defense versus Kakuna's 293 HP and 198 Defense), and Metapod's more likely to win in most scenarios.

@Dream: If it's gen one only then is stalemate.

Poison shot or tackle does not count here since that's till gen 5 totur move.

Pokémon master...out.

@DBZ_universe: Kakuna and Metapod retain the moves of their previous forms.

@Dream: Well I guees I was a bit errogant there ha lol.

But yeah Meta wins cause of stringshot. Slows kakuna, and pound.

I'm going with Metapod as well. Kakuna does have Poison Sting but most of the time, Metapod's String Shot and Tackle will have better chances of working in their favor and knocking Kakuna out before Metapod faints from poison.

But here OP says there freshly caught wild pokemon, not trained up from weedle/caterpee.

I think I remember a ton of if not all wild kakuana and metapod in viridian forest only knowing harden. Do some already know poison sting/tackle?

I think Hitsu's right. I remember having to catch a Weedle and Caterpie and train it instead of catching a Kakuna and Metapod because it was a pain to do the old switch and train method early in the game. That's from my Leaf Green experience. I bet Gen 1 had the same move set for freshly caught Pokémon.

This is a stalemate.

@takashichea: Okay, I'll admit I forgot both only learn Harden if caught in the wild.

However, everyone seems to forget that Pokemon also have the ability to use the move Struggle when all the PP of their moves are gone. Still at that point, the match could go to either of them since they have certain attributes higher than one another (Kakuna having higher Attack and Speed, while Metapod has higher HP and Defense).

@Dream:

Oh yeah, I forgot about that. I feel like we were caught in a trap.

Let's look at the facts for this fight:

Metapod is green; and Kakuna is yellow. Yellow is a primary color, where as green is not... however, green is a primary color of light, where as yellow is not... Hm.

Winner: Draw.

Metapod evolves in Butterfree, where as Kakuna evolves in Beedrill... But bees are stronger than buttterflies.

Winner: Kakuna

Metapod can be caught in Yellow version, which is automatically the best of the original three because Pikachu is the starter pokemon. However, Kakuna is NOT catchable in Yellow version.

Winner: Metapod

There you have it folks, it's a complete draw.

Since this was intended as a dupe thread by Bruce, I think I'll take the time to lock it up.
