As history has shown us time and again… never trust a cute ‘n cuddly little creature because it’ll more than likely turn into a bigger, more ferocious monster. Oh sure, go and pet that fluffy lil’ Mogwai, but should you break “the rules” - - WATCH OUT! - - he’ll turn into a nasty gremlin and stick your hand in a blender. I bring this up because I see this primordial theme at play in the new trailer for the 13 Pokemon movie - - POCKET MONSTERS DIAMOND & PEARL THE MOVIE: PHANTOM RULER: ZOROARK (slop some peanut butter on my tongue, ‘cause that’s a mouthful!). In this, the cute and cuddly Zoroa evolves into the nasty Zoroark and starts shape-shifting all over the place, even turning into Ash himself and giving the poor kid an identity crisis he’s about three decades too young to be having.
Witness it for yourself here...
I read somewhere that this is the 495 species to be introduced in the Pokemon universe…? Sheesh! That is four-hundred-and-ninety-five kind of crazy. I suspect there’s probably been just a little conceptual double dipping along the way. There has to be. I like this “skinwalker” Zoroark, but I think I’ve had an epiphany about its origins. It’s described as an evil fox and in Spanish, of course, "zorro" means fox. Am I off base here?
