Kotaku reports that the newest Pokemon movie-- Pokemon: Arceus to the Conquering of Space, featuring Shokotan as Pichuu –has earned the franchise an entirely new place in the Guinness Book of World Records. Specifically: most advance ticket sales for a movie ever. Prior to its July 18th opening, the 2,384,198 tickets had already been sold.
Pokemon isn't unheard of in the book of Guinness World Records, such as this guy (the World's Largest Pokemon Collection Slideshow), for example. I wonder if you could consider it for the “most playable characters in a video game”? But I'm not sure if the creatures themselves are considered playable. And of course, there's an infinite number available of each species. Hmm...
