On the note about the politician, I hope that bastard doesn't get elected for whatever he is running for after making that comment.
Annnnyway, I have heard few things more disgraceful than this not nuking Japan enough because of anime comment. I'd like to say I'm shocked to hear about it but ignorance is one of the human race's favourite hobbies.
There were 5 openings and 1 ending for Bakemonogatari.
Same here... except that by the 10 min. I got used to it...

That metronome noise reminded me of another less innocent noise except slowed down and more constant than varied.
BTW, Gia, you have it a bit backwards. Sherlock Holmes inspired the show House. Maybe the new movie then took ideas from House, but then that sounds a bit incestuous. :)
I had an INCREDIBLY hard time listening to this. I have rather tone sensitive ears. Off key singing actually causes me discomfort. I had to listen to this in five minute bursts, and taking breaks between in order to finish. I'm quite glad this was short.

Oh John, I wasn't saying before that I knew that HOUSE was based on Sherlock Holmes. That was something I heard from Ana on the Anime Vice podcasts. Which makes it a little surprising since you have been present during the times she has mentioned that.
Also, I believe that HOUSE is probably more based upon Dr. Joseph Bell. Who was the real life inspiration for Sherlock Holmes. Arthur Conan Doyle used to work for Dr. Bell.

Holmes from the novels was pretty much the way Downey Jr. portrayed him. Far too often Holmes was more Disney-fied for a mass market audience. Often shown to be rather emotionless and snooty. I own the anotated versions of the novels. It was done by one of the most renowned Holmes Scholars. To watch the old films. You'd never realize that Sherlock would beat on corpses from the medical colleges to test the difference between pre and post mortem bruising. That he was an frequent user of a 7% solution of cocaine.
He could be rather off putting and insensitive. In Hound of the Baskerville's, Holmes sent Watson out by himself to do the investigation and told Watson to write him with his findings. It turns out what Holmes actually followed Watson and had been spying on them the whole time and never told Watson he was doing that.
He also really offended Watson before when Holmes used the watch of Watson's brother to tell him that his brother was a drunkard who suffered from gambling losses and had serious money issues. Naturally, Holmes was right, but he could tell all of that from this pocket watch.
We also learned that Holmes did take part in boxing matches in The Sign of Four.
The movie with Robert Downey Jr. had a lot of little tidbits from many different books in it. The movie wasn't spot on and took quite a few liberties, the way Mary was introduced was way off; but it was still a very strong film.
